Just got home from the ground. I thought Warner was BOG. McInerney was outstanding. Heeney tough but classy throughout. Grundy tenacious against a pretty impressive, at times, Briggs. Gulden was poor IMO compared to his lofty standards.

Underrating performance from jmac

Guy is a gun

Haywards best performance of his career. Role change or penny drop with swans contract not being done? Either way he's played great last few weeks.

Adams/rowbottom/heeney/Warner etc hunting the ball in the wet like rabid dogs. I flipping loved it.

The boys wanted the ball more & it showed with our victory.

Forwards took a few important contested marks

How the hell did this side lose to Richmond? Someone please explain it.

Big gulp of bathwater /Richmond had key players in

One pet peeve is they need to call out their name & communicate when going for the same mark. They bumped into each other regularly leading to an easy mark being a 50/50 contest.

He is not a like for like replacement, that's for sure. But I'd feel more confident with Fox in the defensive mix and someone else coming in to the 22, then I would feel picking Francis on current form. An interesting conundrum for the selectors coming up next week.

We need to assume that McCartin will miss a few weeks. With that in mind I really think we should bring in another KPD, that means one of Francis, Edwards, Hamling or Snel.

I really don't want to have an undersized defence while McCartin is out as it creates a weakness opposition teams will exploit.

I can see both sides of it. Certainly don't disagree, just don't think Francis is the answer. Hamling has looked good tonight - as a goal kicking forward (two cracking finishes), and I'd rate Edwards above Francis. Snell nowhere near ready despite some good moments. Francis probably on balance most likely, but we've seen it many times before when we've gone in undersized down back. I feel a little less worried about that by the fact that Rampe is back. But still with Freo and Carlton in those three games to come before the bye, its not good timing.

At least we have a long break for the bye (2 1/2 weeks between games) that should hopefully mean all things going well McCartin will be ready to return after it. He has 5 and a bit weeks to recover (assuming it is a bad one like last year) to be ready for the Geelong game, but would only miss 3 games in the process.

Now that I've had some awesome pizza and a few more glasses of sparkling red, let's reflect.

  • 4-0 at home. This is what you need to do when you want to make finals. Make your home ground a place to be feared.
  • Huge game by Grundy, I think its fair to the he's finding the SCG to his liking.
  • I liked Melican's game a lot. Was in the right place for much of the game and my goodness where is his contract at Swans because we need to start asking the question!!
  • I was wrong. Rampe was great down back, he was definitely ready. Love your work Rampes
  • We adapted to the conditions much quicker and it certainly helped us get back into the game. Well played lads.
  • Hayward 4 goals...try and keep it civil people:tongueoutv1:
  • Jordon is fast becoming a favourite of mine. He's been fantastic for us and plays his role perfectly.
  • 40k crowd. Love your work Sydney!!

Am I the only one who saw one of the Giants players stick his leg out to trip Rowbottom. I think it happed in the second quarter in our forward 50.

The umpires did spot it - they did call for a free before we played on for a goal. Clear trip though - will get a fine you would think.

Seemed to me like the Giants were players a bit dirty.
