And Danger and Dusty and Swallow, so no DPP cover, no need to leave them all out but it needs to be in the back of your mind. I had a 'no worries' attitude towards byes last year and ended up blowing 9 trades in 3 weeks and scored bugger all.

I appreciate the need for a strategy for byes but I won't compromise my starting team for a few donuts in rd 8. Having the best team for rd 1 (and the subsequent 6 rounds) as opposed to the best rd 8 team is more important. Sure, if you have an X vs Y situation and the byes work against you, considerate it. But if you're not taking someone who you think is going to go large because of their bye, you're only hurting yourself.

Realistically, any one of Ablett, Pendles, Beams & Cotchin could all be the #1 player this year. Do you want to start without having them and the option of them as your captain?

Here's the latest version of my team... thoughts/opinions would be much appreciated.

If Shiels is in your team you simply MUST have Langford in your defence as you're relying on Langford to tag to free Shiels up to win his own pill.

If you don't feel Langford will play, don't go Shiels as he'll obviously get the No.1 taggers job.

Here's my attempt at a 3+Beams-0-6 midfield
at least gives my starting rookies a chance at scoring well in round 1. at the moment i am happy in selecting Kersten even if he doesnt play round 1. Georgiou is pending round 1 but it's between him and Langdon. still feels wrong doing it this way though.

Re written my team. Taken into account the bye rounds, Spent heaps of time working out these fking bye rounds which has done my head in. Have a few Dpps in there for safety along the way. This team will probably change again but it's what I've come up with thus far. Here is my 2nd attempt.
PLEASE COMMENT AS U WISH.

Had a few people mention this about my first team so I have 2 options I'm trying out. Which one looks better?
This was the team in question..
2014_SC_first_draft.jpg

First option is swapping Bartell for Alphabet Soup and then upgrading Buddy to NRoo and Garlet to Wright.
Keeping a 4-1-3 midfield.
2014_SC_second_draft.jpg

Second option is to go down to a 3-1-4 midfield, keep my DEF structure the same (can't decide on Walker or Bartel).
This gives me even more cash to to fix the forwards and can go Mitchell over Wright.

Thoughts?
Like the first option sorta. Except you've stacked the forwards too much now. Get rid of Daisy. Either upgrade him to Premo preferably or downgrade to a rookie. IMO it's either 5-0-5 or 4-0-6 in the mids.

Nroo to Pav/Chappy/Gunston/Cyril, McVeigh to Hurn, Suckling to Shaw/Sutty will give you Daisy to Libba or Rocky.

You've also got all 4 premos with a round 8 bye. SJ to Watson?

If lack of def and fwd rookies after teams are named.
DEF: Mitchell, hanley, simpson, enright, suckling, mcdonald, (laidler, georgiou)

MID: ablett, watson, libba, beams, tyson, michie, polec, ellis ( dunstan, crouch)

RUCK: Lobbe, sandy, (king, naismith)

FWD: Danger, martin, parker, pavlich, caddy, rohan ( k-harris, lloyd).

May drop suckling to rookie if another shows good js and bring in daisy as m5. Apart from ruck bench I think my bench is locked and loaded. Thoughts?

My team V2 - This is the first time I've ever looked at starting with a 4-0-4 midfield, I normally stack the mids and it's worked for me in the past, however, as rookies are very shallow up forward and down back, it's forced my hand a little bit.

Defense - I've gone for a combination of scoring potential and reliability, Hanley is starting to turn into a POD and I'm happy about that.

Midfield - Only four premos has me very worried, I need my rookies all to play and score reasonable well. - C.Beams has me a little worried but I've gone for him over Michie as more people have Michie. (A few K short of Tyson)

Rucks - After carrying on earlier in this thread about Coxy and his playing time/scoring impact being reduced, I've done an about face as it looks like Naitanui will be nursed all season. Cox is now a must have IMO. (I did have Lobbe but he doesn't fill me with confidence) - I want set and forget in this position.

Forwards - A few POD who I think will score well and have an upward curve this year.
I never ever get mid priced players but Wright will turn premium this year and is well worth the money.

Rookies - As with everyone else, I'm a little unsure who will be getting good time this year, I've gone with my best guess at this stage.
I'd much rather have a rookie with a slightly lower scoring ceiling who is guaranteed of playing more time than visa versa.

Bye Rounds - TBH, I haven't given them much thought at this stage.

Critique away :)

Thoughts on the set up?
Bennell is a speculative breakout pick in the mids, so I would say your set up there is actually 2 + Beams-1-6.

Current team is;

Def; Mitchell, McVeigh, Hurn, Swallow, McDonald, Laidler (Langdon, Georgiou)
Mid; Pendles, Libba, Murphy, D Beams, Tyson, Polec, X Ellis, Dunstan (Cunningham, Crouch)
Ruc; Mumford, Sandilands (Derickx, Thurlow)
Fwd; Danger, Dusty, Walters, Parker, Hale/Gunston, Caddy (Rohan, Kennedy-Harris)

$200 in the bank if I go with Hale, about $2,000 if I choose Gunston.

9/8/13 for the bye rounds.

The Hale vs Gunston question centres on how confident I am about Mummy/Sandilands missing games.

I'm leaning towards Hale for that reason, but I think Gunston might average 5-10ppg more.

Other options I have at that price level are Zorko and Pavlich.

Obviously risky to start without Ablett, but with this structure, it was either him or Pendles missing out.

Will hopefully be able to pick him up after his bye.

Interested to hear thoughts.
