Your bogey team and the team you have the wood over

Anyone know longest streak? IIRC Hawthorn had an extraordinarily long one against another team through the 80s and early 90s. Richmond?

I don't think one year where you beat us twice qualifies as Essendon having the wood over us. We've been pretty even with the win/loss ratio for years now.

I'd agree with that actually. Carlton has always provided plenty of problems for us. If you look back over the years you'll find that they generally won the games that mattered earlier in the season, as opposed to the meaningless ones later in the season. I think Fevola kicked a total of 16 goals in the two games against us this year.

No other team owns us as comprehensively as Port Adelaide. They must be delighted to have drawn us at home in Round One next season. North Melbourne also had us on toast for seven years until we beat them in Round One this year.

Sydney had not lost to us since 2000 or something before this year, when we beat them twice.
Carlton have won the last 2 atleast over us.:(

3 times; In Sydney, Canberra and in the semi final.

Up until this year you would have said StKilda and Sydney but that seems to have turned beating them twice and three times repectively, North Melbourne is still biggest bogey side. Find it funny some Carlton people mentioning having wood over dogs, have only won the last 2 in a row!

Wood over Collingwood last 4-5 years, and proably Brisbane although we did lose to them up at Gabba this year, before that it had been ages.

Wood:

West Coast - Our record against them is just obscene given that they are generally a very good side. Something like 13 of the past 15 have gone our way, and they haven't beaten us on our home patch since 1998.

Essendon - They've had one win over us since 2000 and our average winning margin must be up around 10 goals (including 2 from 2 in finals). Funnily enough the time they beat us was our only loss in a 14 week stretch on the way to the 2004 flag.

St Kilda - Uncanny. We led them nearly all day at the Telstra Dome this year with literally half our side out, despite them being top 4 and us being bottom 4.

Bogey:

Adelaide - We've struggled in the Showdowns ever since Neil Craig took over in 2004.

Sydney - They just bully us.

Carlton - Despite their shitness we've struggled to beat them for a good 4 years now.

Certainly Hawthorn as others have mentioned seem to have ou measure when it matters.

As for the reverse, I can't recall the doggies beating the cats in a final in the past 20 years (I'm open to correction).

I don't know about the longest record, but I know that Collingwood had not lost to Hawthorn for 16 straight years from 1925-1941 and then also a ten year streak from 1944-1954.

Oh how times have changed........:(

As of late Hawthorn have also been our bogey side, lost to them by 100 points last year, got smashed by them in the nab cup and lost to them by 78 points in rnd 22

Bogey: Used to be Roos obviously, now Crows (bastards) and Swans
Wood: Essendon and Saints (we own them terribly. Take away Daniel Motlop's after the siren miss we would've had something like 10 or 11 wins in a row against them, and our tanking U25 team pushed them to the last few minutes this year)

BOGEY: crows, magpies..... if you happen to catch this game, turn away.... these are the games that are plain dreadful to watch

WOOD: lions, blues, tigers

For the Tigers.

Bogey would definitely be the Kangaroos, the one team we haven't beaten for a long time, and of course lost to in the McCartney comeback game.

Don't think we have the wood over any team really.

Since 1990 North have played Richmond 29 times for 22 wins.

One of the more interesting cases of a bogey team is not in the AFL, but in the WAFL, and was the strange dominance West Perth held over Subiaco from 1993-2005. In recent years, the hoodoo has been broken thanks to the dominance of Subiaco.

I don't have the exact stats for those 13 seasons, but I think West Perth's success rate was something like 90% in matches against Subiaco. Obviously it must have been psychological and contagious, because the 2005 Subiaco and West Perth sides were hardly the same as the 1993/94 teams. West Perth also eliminated Subiaco in the finals in 1993, 1994, 1998, 1999 & 2002; and defeated them in the 1995 & 2003 WAFL Grand Finals

Those ****ing garlic munchers kept knocking us out in every final.

Until recently that is. :)
