Thornton should be traded out before Grigg, Jacobs and Walker.

Grigg will give us more than Hadley and Ellard if he re-signs.
McCarthy is actually probably more of a tall flanker. Would prefer Watson tbh.
Like Ben Reid is a tall flanker?

Every Carlton fan prefers Watson because he's the group think's favourite.

Might have the least upside...Nathan Brown v Ben Reid.

Who's McCarthy?

Patrick McCarthy
11 March 1992, 194cm, 79kg, Glenelg/Plympton
Built like a praying mantis but plays like a king bee. It’s easy to be impressed by his height (he looks taller than 194cm) and application, which is enormous. But he’s also a natural leader, an inclusive footballer, with the ability to organise those around him. More suited to defence than attack at this stage.

watson will be gone. good preseason in him, would be a gem.

Dyson Heppell (Gippsland Power, Vic)
Height: 187cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 14/05/92
Skilful left-footed medium defender with penetrating kick, strength overhead and clean hands. Was outstanding for Vic Country in the under-18 championships, winning MVP and All-Australian honours. Averaged 20 disposals at 75 per cent efficiency and four tackles.

Blayne Wilson (Peel Thunder, WA)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 26/01/92
Strong-marking medium defender who reads the game very well across half-back and uses the ball effectively. Earned All-Australian honours in 2009 and was consistent for WA at under-18 level this year, averaging 18 disposals at 78 per cent efficiency and five marks

Say nothing. Nod along. And when the Pies, lose go to town.

mccarthy over watson for me too. I know the groupthink on here says get a KPP but I personally wouldn't mind another of Hughes' tall midfielder selections. e.g. Kieran Harper has some raw goalkicking talent that could replace both Carrots and Houla in our 22. Perhaps others will slide to pick 18?

So it doesn't really look like there are any decent established big KPD available for trade at the moment, plus Watson and McCarthy will probably be gone by our first pick in the National Draft. I hope we're looking at some state league players, Kyle Hartigan would some the most likely out of all of them. Could have been picked up last year but was overlooked, sounds like he's worked on his game and is a strong chance to get picked up this year.

B: Paul Bower, Michael Jamison, Dennis Armfield
HB: Jordan Russell, Kyle Hartigan, Marcus Davies/Rhys O’Keeffe/Zach Tuohy
C: Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs, Shaun Grigg
HF: Kade Simpson, Lachlan Henderson, Chris Yarran
F: Jeffery Garlett, Matthew Kreuzer, Jarrad Waite
Foll: Robert Warnock, Chris Judd, Brock McLean
I/C: David Ellard, Kane Lucas, Andrew Carrazzo, Heath Scotland
EMG: Simon White, Aaron Joseph, Mitch Robinson

Kreuzer would probably play equal amounts of time up forward and in the ruck, with Waite taking FF when he's rucking. I think we might trade Walker and Betts, if we don't they would most likely find a way into the 22.

I think we'll go after a Harper, Wilson or Heppell type in the first round.

I lOVE the sound of this guy, this is something we require along with a KPD to get Gibblett out of the back line and into the middle where BG belongs.

EDIT: We need a long penetrating kick out of defence to smash the zone - hopefully efficiency is just as good as the distance.

I haven't been following the juniors much this year, so any more info on this guy would be much appreciated.

This might be a stupid question, but anyone have any idea who WH might be looking at?

I find it interesting just how many of us here have our eyes out for Tuohy next year
Does anyone here actually know the kid or what he is made of?
He looks intent enough on the field, but would just like to know what he has put himself through just to get where he is now.

I would say he is made of the right stuff, I think he will play 6 or so games next year at least. He looks like a real tough footballer and has loads of confidence and skill. Perhaps a bit more developing in the ants, could benefit from playing in different positions, lets just hope he's playing this weekend and we get to have a look at him on the TV. He's impressed me a fair bit. I'd like to see him given a roving job and a license to chase the ball in the ants for a while.

Getting a KPD and someone one like heppell would do wonders for us! I just hope WH has the brains to think logically and obvious rather than try to make a master stroke out of nothing.

Armfield Jamison Walker

Scotland Bower Russell

Gibbs Murphy Grigg

Houlihan Waite Carazzo

Gartlett Henderson Betts

Followers- Warnock, Judd, Mclean

Bench- Jacobs, Simpson, Hadley, Robinson

Emergencies from- White, Kruezer, O'Halipan, Yarran, Lucas, Browne

Delist- Tiller, Fisher, Anderson, Johnson

Retire- Wiggins

Trade- Thornton, Hampson, Austin, Browne, Ellard

Dont know why there are so many ppl saying we need this player or that player.. pre season and more games as a team and under the belt of some of the youngsters and we will be challenging for a flag with what we've got!!!!!

I wouldn't blink if we delisted Ellard. It's unfortunate that Ellard's tenacity is matched by his lack of awareness, legspeed, poise and skill. I don't see a place for Ellard in the Carlton side as anything more than a top up player beyond 2011. I stand by my view that Browne has more talent and skill than Ellard.

Delist and trade

Ellard (rookie), Fisher, Tiller, Thornton (trade), Wiggins & Anderson.

Really hope that Tuohy can develop.

We lack a medium size defender like Nick Smith who stiched up Betts in the final with a great game.

Like J.R who stiched up a far superior player in Ryan O'Keefe and had about 25 touches himself?

Nothing wrong with having more of them. More of them can free Gibbs up to do other things.

At the mo too many of our defenders are weak to average kicks so yes another player like Smith or Russell would be good to have. OKeeffe???? Oh for injury.
