He'd be in a pretty similar position as Pedlar last year, I would have thought.I'd have thought as of right now, closer to de-listing than to selection
I heard that Burgo was recently asked who are the next midfielders that he is excited about. His answer,
1. Taylor
2. Pedlar
If Taylor can get/ stay healthy - he is very much seen (by Burgo) as in the midfield mix with his clever ball skills / evasion / kicking.

Would be surprised if this was said. We aren't paying him to concern himself with the 'midfield mix'.
I was surprised Sloane and Hamill were retained, and so far Bond likes miles off. Zac has looked good at times at Sanfl level, despite missing large chunk of last year, but he's looked well below AFL level of fitness. He'd be in a pretty similar position as Pedlar last year, I would have thought.
Rumoured to be well regarded but needs to get his body right. He's also got a contract to 2025 and you'd think Sloane and Hamill would go before Taylor. Even Bond sounds closer to delisting, but I suspect will get at least another year.
Who the heck is suggesting we are delisting Taylor?Delisting taylor. The s**t takes in 2024 have already started lol.
I take this to mean that the reason he is not fit is not that he lacks the motivation to get fit, its that every time he tries to push himself harder or do more work, he gets an injury and that's what's limiting his fitness. It was definitely couched in terms of “if we can get his body right”

Is that how others interpreted it??
This is very good news as his skills are his main weaponI heard that Burgo was recently asked who are the next midfielders that he is excited about. His answer,

He is building JarmanI think our selectors have to be dragged kicking and screaming to select untried young players, let alone give them a decent block of games to settle at AFL level. I don't watch the SANFL but from all reports I've read, Dowling has been in great form but still can't get an opportunity. So it's hard to imagine Taylor getting a chance if his form has just been "good without being spectacular". Too many safe options for them to go with instead.
Unless there's a bad run with injuries to senior players, I suspect the only way these guys have a chance is after we lose enough games to fall completely out of finals contention at which point the selectors might decide there's nothing to lose.
I’m glad to see he is starting to get some numbers at SANFL level. Our problem is guys like Laird and Crouch have to be forced out kicking and screaming so he has to get 35 touches 13 tackles and 3 goals for a month before he is selected (same for Dowling) as a sub. After experiencing a horrific injury last year i think the penny has dropped for Zac. He has always been lacking in fitness for a midfield role which i think has stopped him from getting a place in the seniors. At training he was always the last or in the end group for running sessions and he was before Christmas really struggling to keep up with the main group. I get the feeling he may have been embarrassed with his fitness level in one of the last training sessions when other players were encouraging him to perform well.
In the new year he hit the ground running and instead of being at the back of groups he was increasingly moving up the pack to be nearer the front of the group. He looked like he was now running on top of the ground and had a real pep in his step.
His improvement at training is now being reflected in an improved and consistent performance in the ressies. He has been good without being spectacular but his improved fitness is enabling him to have better movement away from stoppages and greater spread. I have not seen the SANFL team for a few weeks - too many top ups kill my interest - but he started to build in the Glenelg and Port games. He needs one or two 25+ touch games to really put his name before the selectors, but he has the skill set to succeed at the next level playing with better skilled players. His kicking touch is terrific and his ability to extract the ball out of stoppages can be elite. He just needs to watch the occasional hail mary handpass, which can allow the opposition side to regain the ball the ball with most of our players caught out of position.
The next few weeks will be critical for him but if he can play to his ability level i would hope the selectors would consider giving him a try at the higher level because he would add value to our team.
And even then it won't be Laird getting dropped to make room in the midfield for him. We'll drop a McHenry or Pedlar or Berry and stick him on a half forward flank. At least with Crouch there is some decent evidence to say that we will (eventually) drop him when he's not getting the job done.I’m glad to see he is starting to get some numbers at SANFL level. Unfortunately this looks over before it begun.
Just did his knee.
That might be the end of that.
