Good
  • Rachele is a star: 5 goals and a poster. Knows how to crumb, knows how to lead, can kick a set shot, can kick a snap. Just knows how to kick them
  • Dawson in the second half. Was wasted in the midfield dishing out handballs at the bottom of the pack.
  • Rowe's first half was incredible. His inside 50s were excellent and managed to snag 2 himself.
  • Crouch's return to footy. Didn't miss a beat.
  • Scholl was a top possession getter for Crows despite being the medical sub.
  • Keays hunted the ball all day. I do knock his kicking inside 50, his shots on goal, the fact that he can only kick on his left, but we need guys who just hunt the footy.
  • Smither's left foot snap goal.
  • Smither's goal saving smother on Frederick.
  • Third quarter comeback.

Bad
  • Kicking. Kicking efficiency in first half was not AFL standard.
  • So many self-inflicted turnovers/clangers.
  • Sloane. Poor captain's game.
  • Thilthy, ROB and Milera all missing sitters.
  • Loss :(

Ugly
  • Schoenberg's kicking was atrocious.
  • Milera. Bad return. Where do you play him?
  • Himmelberg did nothing.
  • Giving away a free kick so late in the game before the bounce due to 6-6-6 rule.

Was a mistake picking Soligo ahead of Pedlar. You hate to drop him after one game but he was virtually non existent.

I wouldn't mind us persisting with Soligo at this point. Struggled, but he did have a couple of moments where he showed he's a smart footballer.

A couple of AFL games as a taster to prep him to rip apart of the SANFL.

This has been said since 2020.
I wish we could have just one senior midfielder play well past 30. Sloane, Thommo, Douglas in the last few years have all been dead set cooked at 30.

Where's our Boak, Mundy, Pendlebury?

We panicked late in the last 10 minutes when there was no need to.

I hope the coaching group play it back as our young group need to learn about tight situations.
It's actually a good opportunity for them to both learn from the game AND take some confidence from it.

Best players IMO were Murray, Rachelle, Sholl, Rowe, Butts and Keays. Crouch was good also.
I really like Murray's endeavour, but he made some terrible errors today as well.

A pass mark but not in the best.

In a way losing a close game in front of a home crowd can be good for mentality if our coaching staff can spin it well enough. Also a chance we drop our heads but either way it was probably an important learning moment.

I'd give him two more games. Not fair to drop him after just one.

Especially as it's not a keeping the seat warm game (i.e. Worrell for last year).

There is certainly a player in him.

First half was sh*t. 3rd quarter was great, 4th quarter mostly meh. You don’t win those games

Good:
Rachele
Rowe
Keays
Crouch
Dawson (excellent 2nd half)

Bad:
Sloane (slow, unskillful)
Tilthorpe (and not just the bad miss, awful turnover)
Milera (look massively underdone)
Schoenberg (just a bad one)
McPherson (his injury helped us)
The entire team in the first half except Rowe and Rachele

Ugly
Every kick in the first half
Thought Milera second half was excellent and brilliant to get thru his first game back

the end to that game is soul crushing, i hope the boys don't drop their heads, keep giving in for the rest of the season.....and please do not show us that first half of football EVER AGAIN
I think they'll learn a lot from it, and know that they were absolutely good enough to win it.

A win would have been great for morale, but this could be equally as good for development.

Stupid:

Not learning a damn thing from the Zac Williams situation at Carlton. The arrogance to think you can take a half back flanker and turn him into a midfielder in one preseason. Dawson was terrible in that first half but excellent when moved back. They say Matty Nicks is good at strategy but I don't believe it. At least he had the sense to see his mistake.

****ing Putrid:

Crows selection policy. **** Matty Nicks for selecting Milera & Himmelberg. One is horribly underdone and rusty and will need a few months in the SANFL, the other is a spud who doesn't deserve to wear the guernsey. Our coaches should know better than this.

Dawson in the centre square was bizarre. He played heaps of wing at Sydney, he should have started there. We'll get better value for him there than in defense

He did start there on the wing , then he went into 2 centre square bounces then half forward then finally half back

He can play centre square but it’s his first game for new club and he hasn’t trained much in a month let alone had a practice match

He should go back in there again when he finds his feet
