1 thing with Hill on hff. Would like to see him take the shot i50 if he is clear unless there is an obvious option. Probably could have snagged himself another 1 or 2.

Also, there was a play when Roma hit up King in the forward pocket. That was such a smart play - the pack formed on the top of the goal square and King crept left when all the key defenders were at the hotspot and got a 1v1. Really smart forward play😃

First it was Longer vs Hickey
Then it was Dunstan vs Bytel

Now it's Billings vs NWM???
What a year to be a saints fan if Jack Billings has to fight to be in the RWB.

Mind you, Billings is paying $200 for the brownlow

Sinclair is paying $250

Reckon I know who the bookies rate higher 🤣🤣🤣
Not really. Jack Billing’s was recruited by the club 9 years ago.
The club has been very generous to Jack.

Well considering Hilly got 4 last week, I’d say he’s happy to go if he is the best option and happy to pass it off if he doesn’t believe he is.

Having said that, I am overseas and didn’t see the game at all so maybe he had more opportunities to do it himself this week and didn’t. Fine line between being called selfish ( as Higgins found out in round 1 , unfairly I believe) and doing the team thing.

There was one ridiculous one yesterday where he was running towards goal, about 40m out right in front, with no immediate pressure to rush his disposal, and instead of taking the relatively simple shot, he handballed it to a guy about 10m ahead of him, who from memory had his back to goal and had someone near him who would put immediate pressure on him. Total brain-fade.

It was Gresh.
He was trying to gift him one for his 100th.
Didn’t need to.
Was good for the rest of the game.

Snags ignored an open woods yesterday.
Dunno why woods wasted his time running.
Snags ain’t passing. Ever.
😂

I believe you can access the replay in your room at Hotel George Cinq on the Champs Élysées.

Is that Paton that stuffs up the handball in the second one. I haven't watched yet but last week he looked like he was struggling. Did he play okay?
I thought he was ok but had a few ordinary moments, similar to last week. Still a certain starter for mine, will keep getting better got to remember he's five games back from a horror injury.

seconds. Reckoned that dented his confidence for the rest of the gameIs that Paton that stuffs up the handball in the second one. I haven't watched yet but last week he looked like he was struggling. Did he play okay?

I know you aren't bagging him, but I will cut Paton a bit of slack. Still finding his feet after a terrible twin break to his leg (that has ended some careers), and last week gave up the first two goals of the game in the first 90 seconds against the Hawks. Reckon that hit his confidence for the rest of the game where he just couldn't get anything right. Finished with giving away the free for the last Hawks goal.

Against the Suns he was much better, still had a couple of clangers, but was confident enough to run through the guts a couple of times to deliver into forward 50. Defended well and is teaming well with the rest of the defence.

I still like to think I was the first to notice how good Paton was in his first couple of games. I'm certainly not bagging him, he's one of my favourites. A real no frills super disciplined black boots type operator. He's my type of player, he wasn't born with piles of talent but his work rate and drive have him in the first picked list every week.

He played like a 200 gamer from day one, this is the first time I've ever seen anything like a form slump from him. I must admit my expectations of him are so high that I expected him to come back from a broken leg like he'd never left the side though. He's just so stable usually. He's like a robot most of the time, he's a guy you never worry about.

I think there was two instances where he dished off to others in a no better position when he should have taken the shot himself , ironically it happed after he missed an easy shot on the run , its like he didn't want the responsibility to take the shot at goal

Warning: Here comes the rose coloured glasses.

Sorry needed to preface this post with that. I agree with your summation of Paton, and while he is still finding his feet, could it be that the improved pressure and form of the midfield is make life for the backmen a bit easier and also the backline is functioning much better this year because of the more difficult forward entries because of that?
Paton is not standing out as much (and Doogs has also copped a bit of critisism) because of the more cohesive back 6 and the way our wingers (and on the weekend numerous occasions Benny Long) are dropping back to support and are helping with extra numbers at the drop of the ball?

I think personally Paton is playing as he usually does (a bit down but getting to best form) but the rest of the team has lifted so he doesn't stand out as much.
Just a thought.

That second NWM kick is better then the first. The weight to drop that behind the defenders for wood but to punch it through the air to not allow it to be read off boot is unreal.

The first one is also great kicking. You can’t defend kicks like that when they punch through your zone like a hot knife through butter.

Last week he made a couple of critical errors which he'd never done before and that footage of him marking and the choosing a poor option where he handballs into the guy standing the mark looked nothing like the stable player we've come to expect. I can't remember him making mistakes before this year. Hopefully it's just building back up from a pretty debilitating injury.

2020 we seemed to kick mark but most were shorter kicks. Having him and Lienert in gives us a couple of deep penetrating lasers. It's a weapon. Gresham is the opposite, you don't know what he'll do, he creates chaos and pressure through frenetic movement and unpredictable kicks. It's a nice balance. Precision and mayhem.

We can lock Paton in the backline for the next 10 years IMO, he’s not going anywhere. The fact that he’s straight back in after the debilitating injury he had probably says it all.

This is probably one thing that is impacting Paton a touch as well. I reckon he's a great short kick. Adjusts the angles well and makes good precise kicks. I'm not sure he's as effective at kicking long, now that we seem to be exiting defence a bit differently.
