I'm glad it is difficult for us to trade our first this year as it lessons the chance we do something stupid with it. Pick a mid, please please please pick a mid.

Watching the game against Geelong and the players don't seem to have got the memo we need to tank this year. I'm now worried we might win some junk time games in the back part of the season.
Yes let's instil a loser attitude amongst the playing group in turn stifling the development of our young players, dissallusioning our veterans, pissing off the fans, putting the club under financial duress, bringing heat from the AFL and SIA and bringing us down to the level of the ****ing Melbourne Football Club.

Stick to your ****ing BBQ, I bet you purposely overcook your brisket to tank in competitions too.

How long do people think Naitanui has left in him? Can he continue on like Mumford, Goldstein and Ryder for 1 maybe 2 years or is he done?

2 more years. But unlikely to be the force of 20 and 21.

Bailey Williams just has no game sense which is a shame as he is elite athletically.
Jamieson needs 3 preseasons before being a full time ruck. Doesn't have great height or a big leap but is very agile and good at ground level and will only improve.

We need another true ruckman on the list.

Kelly is A grade.

Every time I see Clark play I get the feeling he could be an excellent bit-part in a premiership team. Needs more elite talent around him, but tackles and blocks for team mates like pretty much no-one else on our list.

I have no idea why the **** you are telling me this?

btw Tim Kelly is a rolls royce in a top 4 team. But as soon as he's not in a top 4 team he's inconsistent.

We need more than him and Greg Clark is no Dusty.

Just checked the contract statuses at the top of this thread.

What kind of contract does Witherden get, if any, for next season? Would want to finish the year strongly for mine.

Not the best one on one defender and his much vaunted kicking isn’t really up to scratch which is why he found himself kicking the dew off the grass this morning against Subi.

I like Witherden. I think he has some things to work on but there is something there. Foot skills very good - decision making (in our shitshow of a transition) can be poor.

I don’t think he’s a lost cause - exactly the kind of guy that will work very well in a competent defensive set up.

Our defence is about guarding space and chasing shadows- Simmo does not play a 1 on 1 defence

He’s cooked now so to match our outstanding list management with other players he will get a contract for however long he wants it.

Because you are arguing we should keep Shuey as there is no A grade talent developing.

I say we are better off moving on from Shuey in 2023 as he can't get on the park consistently enough. If that means developing role players while we wait to add more potential A graders then so be it.

You also suggested role players don't generally play mid in good/premiership teams, but Viney, Edwards, Pickett, Caddy, Ellis, Sheed, Hutch etc etc say otherwise. Most teams have at least 2, so let's get a head start on their development (Clark, West, Sheed, O'Neil are the obvious candidates)

Surely it makes sense to wait until the end of the year to see how he's tracking before cutting him.

Absolutely, I'm not advocating cutting him now, but don't think he should play on in 2023. If he really wants to elsewhere then we facilitate it.

Superstar, champion of the club, but we just can't afford to have him playing 12-15 games of which 2-3 are him getting back up to speed from injury (let alone those where he is injured during the match).

But you're saying don't cut him now, but he shouldn't go on next year.

That's my point, if he plays out the rest of the year, why would you cut him?

Dockers trumped us for Luke Jackson ....rumoured 7 year deal offered .

I'd like to keep Witherden and see if he can emulate the game of Caleb Daniel. A bit like we used to do with Hurn, seek him out when he passes the centre square so he can attack, and structure up behind him so he's not exposed the other way.

Witherden has looked pretty dangerous with ball in hand in those same positions as Hurn. I'm not stoked with his ball use in the back half but as others have suggested, there's clearly a breakdown there, plus it's harder than ever to move the ball out of defence so it's not his issue alone. He tries something at least, just think his mind is two steps ahead of his team mates sometimes.

@$1.5m/yr too.

That’s according to Sumich so who really knows. ABC Sportstalk yesterday suggested Jackson has three offers Mel and 2 x WA teams all with similar $ and yrs.

Link - Rumour swirling AFL star ‘offered $10.5m’ — news.com.au

ABC team suggested Jackson’s final decision will be determined by the role & prospects at each club.

For mine, long and big contracts constrain list management too much. Would prefer 2 players at 750k than one at $1.5m.

That's a salary cap killing contract.
Hope we don't get involved

Yeah, definitely keep for me. With Hurn retiring and I'd like to see Rotham play on a wing.
Witherden is prone to an error or two but for the most part is pretty good. Definitely keep in the mix.

Next year defensive unit;
Cole Barrass Hough/Bazzo
Duggan McGov Jones

Depth: Foley, Witherden and Edwards
