And he’ll continue to have a good season after it.

I’ve been waiting for the year when jordy has a great season. One where he actually plays to his ability. If he does this he would win the club bnf and be all Australian. This is what a bloke who wants 800k per year over 5 years should be doing.

My expectation on all players as a paying member is that they do whatever it takes to be the best player they can be. Does anyone on here really believe Degoey does that?

Looks in great shape to me and has been a significant contributor. Do shareholders at your work demand you don’t enjoy annual leave?

No; it is not a hanging offence but does the club really need another JORDAN DE GOEY distraction at this critical time of the year? No! I think that his behaviour & even his associated statement displays a clear lack of emotional intelligence let alone the optics. Why can't he keep his head down & do what he wants to do in a much more private arena? You do not see players such as Bontompelli, Cripps, Petracca, Oliver, Wines, Heeney, etc, etc, - who are all contemporaries of De Goey - ending up in situations like this. Yes; it is not a perfect world & situations will be exploited but he needs to navigate his world much more carefully & pragmatically going forward. I think that he owes the club a truly massive 2nd half of the season. Finally, my other big concern is that his example has the potential whether you are prepared to acknowledge it or not to, is to potentally adversely affect the future behaviours of our our emerging group of young players. That is something that our club does not need. Goodnight & good luck.

It’s still not a hanging offence. He didn’t break any rules.

What a ridiculous response.

I am convinced our supporters are now conditioned to except mediocre results.

He is a professional athlete and could be our best player if he wanted to be.

He is asking for a huge contract but does not prepare like someone who deserves that contract.

It’s a short 4 day break in the middle of the season. He gets 8 weeks at seasons end and has plenty of time to really let himself go(legally)

Why are we so expecting of a guy who clearly does not get the best out of himself?

As for my work. I’ve busted my arse in every job I’ve had. I get significantly less annual leave than these guys and I’m on about 10 percent of what this bloke is asking for.

If you believe anyone who takes the field at AFL level don’t bust their ass to get onfield, think again.
Your remuneration is irrelevant. Are you saying he is in poor condition?

He was using vile gestures with his tongue and fingers. A great role model for the young kids hey? Our AFLW team would really be quite offended but that, don’t you think?

If you follow the social media accounts of some of AFLW team, you’ll know that 8 of them have just spent several weeks touring around Europe together.

They did EVERYTHING depicted in the JDG videos and more.
It was 8 young women having a consensual blast on their grand tour.
Showed wonderful bonding and fun shared across all their Insta accounts and probably more.
There’s plenty their to see still if you want.

As I looked at this unfold, I thought it’s harmless, but I hope the media doesn’t grab it because they pushed identical fun police boundaries.

Admittedly, they have no priors.
Equally JDG has committed no crime apart from being dumb and not prioritising elite performance.

Let’s see where double standards lead to on this.

Retorted your own argument

AFLW girls can let their hair down because

  • it’s not mid season
  • they weren’t in a New York jail 6 months ago
  • they are semi professional athletes… not on 800k a year
  • they don’t have a lengthy history of stuff ups and giving the club bad PR like De Goey

I don’t follow AFLW, let alone their Instagram accounts.
De Goey is male and they are female - therein lies the difference.

De Goey lacks class. The finger, the tongue gesture, the groping.
If he was only dancing I’d be fine with it.
His dancing was the most offensive part.
Absolutely deplorable lack of skill!

Bulldust.
They’ve done this immediately prior new season.
Actual wage has nothing to do with it; moral standards do.
The troupe includes leadership group members.
It was sustained and had scope to be misinterpreted.

Do your homework and go have a look before you criticise.

Well said. Although I wouldn’t necessarily say he has not prioritised performance. A couple of days on the sauce doesn’t do any harm over the course of a season.

And for some players(guessing Jordy is one) they can benefit from the mental reset that a few days away can give. Sadly, he is now going to cop some unnecessary attention.

Shame the media don’t highlight the time he spent at a specialist school footy clinic or taking time out with a kid whose mum has MND. Both of which happened in the week before QB. Wonder if any of the hand wringers have done similar recently?

This is complicated. Again.☹️

I wish I’d never seen footage of JDG’s crass and boorish behaviour in Bali. But the hypocrisy from the footy media is breathtaking. Many of those condemning De Goey have behaved like that themselves, or wish they could.

The club can’t win with this one. If they suspend him - what is it for? He’s not done anything illegal, and the partying was amongst consenting adults. He let his hair down for a few days, after (as far as we know) a highly disciplined few months. And he’ll return to that this week.

As for the footage showing behaviour that the AFL doesn’t want to see - I have some sympathy for that. Many of you may not agree, but De Goey gives off aggressive entitled male vibes that I, and more than a few of my female friends, don’t like. I’ve had a lot of texts about this over the last 24 hours, including from other Pies supporters. Big Footy, I suggest, is not representative of our fan base and none of my female friends who follow the Pies come anywhere near this forum.

The AFL is putting a lot of work into respect for women, and whether you agree or not, the Bali footage is a disaster for this agenda. And it’s an agenda which is not going away.

But in saying that, JDG is not the Lone Ranger and I don’t think he should be hanged for footage of this behaviour, when plenty of others are - or would if they could - doing the same. Off camera.

He’s an example of why there’s more work to be done on education in this space. But not suspension.

In the meantime he’s a very good footballer who - I’m starting to think - parties like he plays. It’s his persona. I also don’t have to like him as a person.

Didn't Shane Warne do many similar things (some worse) but was hailed a hero, called a larrikin who lived life to the full by the same media? Also has a stand named after him at the MCG.
