No new news other than what I posted earlier today in that this weeks window dressing meetings have pushed back any announcement but I have no info on a timeline other than confirming he has verbally agreed to coach us. The problem for GWS is for instance they may only be able to offer say $1.2 under the soft cap and need the ambassador payment to top up - we can offer say $1.6 if needed so we are already in front before any extra payment. Fact is that extra payment can only come if approved AFTER the contact is signed. Clearly GWS know that and tried to get in early. They clearly cannot offer what we can purely under the soft cap / therefore advantage North.
If GWS are only offering Clarkson a shedload of cash then they are going about things the wrong way. I can't see him moving interstate. He will be asking his family and the other guy coaches, GM of Footy, List Manager, etc and their families to relocate to Western Sydney for the medium to long term. That is a massive ask and I can't see it happening.

Even Caro said that he isn't after $1.6m and by all indications, success, not money is Clarksons focus. I'm not worried about interstate teams.

Clarko strikes me as a man of integrity. Not someone who would play two parties against each other trying to extract an extra 100k out of them. So I’m scratching my head trying to come up under what logic does a man who has given a verbal agreement (in other words has given his word) would be flying to Sydney for a 4th meeting?

Other than to tell them No, which could have been done over the phone or Zoom, I’m stumped as to how that’s not telling us that it’s not happening.

All I can think of is perhaps the negotiations have hit a stumbling block and he wanted to tell GWS he’s still in play and let’s continue the process.

Either way, unfortunately the verbal agreement theory is now officially out the window for mine. At best we are still in with a chance but nowhere near done.

And as much as the Ziebull cops a lot of flack here, he’s not wrong. Given we aren’t talking to other coaches and Clarko is our only target at the moment, this can’t stay like that indefinitely. At some point we will need a plan B and we must tell him when that point is

Agree with most of this.
Would make way more sense that the extra money is so Clarkson could accept a lesser contract say 700k and the club has more to spend on their soft cap, then the extra 300k gets him back up to 1m.

As I said in my other post the 180 degree turn around from the afl is making very nervous.

In racing parlance we are travelling well around the turn and the jockey hasn't moved a muscle.
But you'd hate to be grabbed on the line.

Can we use some sort of electric shock device on Clarko's nuts?

Unfortunately the only advantage is that Clarko would need to be convinced to take a leap of faith that the Ambassador money would come. Let's be honest, it would.
Let's be completely honest. Clarkson has McLachlan on speed dial.

I bet McLachlan even pays for the coffees when they catch up for a chat.

What is the sense in having a go at each other? If someone comes on our board and puts themselves on the record as being confident with the information they have, it’s not hard to show them some respect! It’s why “in the know” posters only communicate with a trusted few. If Clarko comes to the club, great, if not, we move on!

In my case I wasn’t attacking the poster.

I was trying to point out the fact that the ambassador payments are fair game and the afl will engineer it if needed.

Only got heated when I was called thick and a campaigner.

I will point out in advance that this is a joke, and I am all for friendship and banter, not abuse:

Please don’t think my frustration is at people sharing info it’s the fact that we always seem to cop something out of the ordinary when the deal is 99%

Clearly posters share what they know at the time they know it, that’s awesome I love it.

It’s just these sudden turns. We can’t seem to get a smooth process

What didya go for? A parma, a parmi or a coupla the entirely radical potato fritters?

What would you accept if you’re Clarko - example /
Now GWS $1.3 million under soft cap plus POSSIBLY $300k ambassador and the $300k is not guaranteed and CANNOT be put in his contract or
NMFC $1.6 guaranteed under the soft cap.
The AFL literally own GWS.

The ambassador money will come. The announcement that anyone can apply just gives the AFL cover: "oh it totally wasn't a sweetheart deal, even North could have received it, honest."

And they can still go over the soft cap, they just have to pay a fine back to the AFL, who, I'll say again, literally own GWS.

I have no doubt they have given a timeline, it may not be the one we all want but there's no way we've gone into the negotiations with Clarko saying take as long as you want. We have (according to all reports) said the job is his if he wants it, but if he doesn't we need time to run a process to find another coach.

We won't be sitting around in October waiting for the phone to ring.
Hey, if it doesn't work out for North do you reckon you could visit a bit of a blight on him and his clan. Nothing major, but perhaps a dose of crabs or a mild dose of eczema?

Thought you might have gone a bit of Blight with a few long range torpedoes to sink his battleship ....

In racing parlance, there's a D-Cell under the GWS saddle and the Steward had tugged the brim of his hat with a slight nod and a barely noticeable wink.

All clear.

Nothing to see here.
