Thoughts on Ben Miller, Richmond?

Now a ufa due to being delisted and re-rookied. Was keen in his draft year as a potential ruck but looks like being a kp defender. Hasnt progressed as much as you would like but can also play 2nd ruck. If we move / lose Bailey Williams he could be a free backup / depth tall.

Was playing ruck in the seniors inthe Goldfields league as a 17 yr old and was a tough kid. Could be a bust but could surprise. And a free hit.
Ive liked him since the 2017 draft and thought we wouldve taken him over Brayshaw if he was around. Has played a few games for the Tiges this year.

Speaking of Injuries.

On a sadder and more serious note Claremont's Sam Gilbey looked to have done a knee, in the closing minutes in the third quarter of their Colts game v Perth at Mineral Resource Park.

Did not look good. :(

Would be gut wrenching for a young bloke to get a long term injury like that when he is on the cusp of being drafted

May still end up on a list but it’ll be a far more nervous wait for him now

Not sure we can afford to go back to back spending our first picks on guys who have barely played footy over the last few years

Agree 100%.

Oh and I do hope that The Pie Man has noticed that this guy appears excited and pumped to be looking WEST.

There's an amazing obsession with TB on that board. I think my favourite part of all of it, is someone's plan that we renegotiate TB's deal so he becomes a FA and can go to the dogs and we get pick 3 in return, but then we also trade pick 3 to the Dogs
I take it as flattery, TB is in amazing form and if I was dogs I'd want him bad. It was like Bonty last year, everyone would've wanted him.

Lads, I come in peace

What's this I'm hearing about Barrass wanting to get to the kennel? Look, he's a great player. He's exactly what we need. As a show of good faith I think we can offer Josh Schache (former pick 2) and Jason Johannisen (North Smith medallist) as a starting point with some decent picks thrown in as well.
Throw in a Danny Southern rats tail and we've got a deal.

Damn, great player and wanted us to take him. Hopefully nothing too serious.

We should still look to take him with a later pick, we'll worth the risk.

Phillipou should be ahead of Wardlaw anyway imo, he’s the perfect modern prototype and can impact games in other areas of the ground, he’s also nearly a year younger. He’s a freakish talent and should be our pick

He’s 5 months younger but yeah, it’s looking like a big gamble with Wardlaw now unfortunately.

Looking like we will end up with pick 1. I think we should bid on Ashcroft just to take the heat off whoever we end up with. No pressure being the number 1.

I'd definitely do this unless brissie offer us a decent incentive not to. Robertson for a token pick for example.

It's a shame that the 2 best options for our pick 1/2 are seemingly both struggling to stay fit at the moment with Wardlaw and his hammies and Phillipou with his back. Gonna be an interesting draft night.

Problematic hamstrings? Lock him in for our first pick if that is the case. Can’t wait for our S&C team to get to work on him…

I wouldn't be too concerned. If there's one thing our club does well it's handle hamstring injuries

Malthouse was very meh on Robertson this morning. Said something along the lines of ‘you don’t improve your list by recruiting fringe players from other clubs’

Footnote - which is what we’ve done with the likes of Witherden, Langdon, SPS and ???????.

Uggh…that’s disappointing to hear about Wardlaw. Surely too risky at pick 1 or 2 now, which is a damn shame. Have been locked in on him as our pick from back in the dark days of round 5-10

I disagree. In the scenario I mentioned, we'd essentially lose nothing by bringing him in.

Whether Dev himself ends up being a good player or not we will have to wait and see. But to suggest it's never worth picking up a fringe player from another club just isn't true. Plenty of guys have struggled early and excelled in a new environment, which we're seeing this year with freo with the likes of Acres, Aish, Clark, and Brodie helping them climb back into the finals.

You could argue Jones has been a good example of a guy that was delisted by the cats but is playing at least a reasonable role for us at the moment.

Just because we've taken some spuds in the past doesn't mean we should give up on the idea entirely.
