The question is whether that’s the best use of that pick for us with our current list

I’d suggest it isn’t as primarily we need mids and whilst we also need a ruck, other sides have shown that a competitive ruck can be secured in a variety of ways without using such a high pick

That said, we need to maintain at least the pretence of interest to push up the cost for Fremantle as they did with Kelly

I can't see any way the AFL allows us to trade out of the 1st round this year (obviously they can't stop it if we bring another 1st in, but #2 out without a return pick requires approval).

We are the 2nd longest streak since the last top 10 pick in the comp? (I have a feeling we are 2nd, but nay be #1). If they were to let us trade out of the 1st round then anyone at any time in the future could just get their approval rubber stamped.

The rule is there to save clubs from themselves. Thankfully for us this year as whilst Jackson is worth every bit of pick 2, we need to bring in top 5/10 talent in the immediate term via the draft.

Nearly right. Port have their window open so Junior makes sense as would Waterman/Rotham so it would be Junior plus pick 20 (you cannot trade back to a club what they traded to you) plus a lead up third tall forward in Waterman plus a speedy third tall defender in Rotham for Georgiades and pick 8.
