Racking up these kind of numbers playing off a flank is pretty amazing. Can’t see why we wouldn’t just take him ourselves if North passed, but I also read on another team board that only 2 clubs are yet to speak to him at this stage - Geelong and us.

We sent an email.

“It’s actually what we’re going through today,” Simpson told SEN on Friday morning. “It’s not done... but I’m hoping we can get it done in the next few weeks

Few - it can vary for many but I think of a few as 5 or more. So great insights from Simmo - telling the fans that Junior's contract will be sorted out before trade week.

So much for immentent signing.

If we’re not into him our 2nd pick will be worth a fortune to someone

Great to see Cal doing the Pieman's job of talking up the top end talent. Needs to give him a nickname like he did with McCluggage of the Rolls Royce.

Now we need Wardlaw to come back and rip shreds and get Clarko interested as well as Tsatas continuing his spell. Nothing builds up the offer price than competition. Sit back and wait for the phone to ring.

When I look at the list profiles of Hawthorn and Essendon, neither club have anything like Harry. Maybe not at the same level, but Hough and Chesser should provide us with outside speed and silk.

Oh and to satisfy Keys and his need to separate out the thread of trade from draft, I would look at what players Hawks and Dons have that would entice us to slide back. Essendon only need to jump up 2 but Hawks would need to jump up 4 spots.

Will spew if we cough up pick 2 for Jackson.

Unless the club reckons we'll be just as s**t next year, and we're guaranteed to draft the next Judd, Cuz and Kerr then.
It would be just stupid recruiting and pretty much confirm we are screwed with our recruiters having no idea.

Nisbett sounds like a clueless idiot that's trying to have his say in our recruiting. Someone needs to tell him to just run the football department. Recruiting isn't Nisbett job. We need quality midfielders. Rucks are luxury icing on the cake.
Swans been going for years with hardly a ruck and they prove it isn't really necessary. Hickey's doing fine and they got him from us for nothing. Pick 2 for a ruck is crazy stupid. Do not want Jackson at all for his high price.

Agree with previous posters Shuey cant go on as captain. He runs out of gas in the second half and cant do that old shimmy without falling over.
Sheed,Reddan,Gaff,Shuey,NN,....Man thats a lot of slow.
Wardlow's kicking on the run to the forwards did not look good.
Our pick must first have good disposal [ bonus points for having a left foot ].Must have pace , must have size , no wimps need apply.
We dont need another Ainsworth or Partington.Who was responsible for those by the way?
We seem to get our picks right on the KPPs but **** up the mids.

This was and remains the plan/dream.
The dream is to have two "athletic" Rucks that also have some forward craft/ability enabling a different forward entry option at times and drawing KPD's away from Oscar/Jack, spreading defence covers. Bailey making it to that level is still to be determined, but he still shows signs and is still improving. It's a tantalising prospect certain "people" are very keen on and failing that becoming reality; a Jackson trade still leaves us with a capable (at worst) young Ruck option, should we manage to get him. The question is; at what cost in dollars and mids?

Pick 2 for Jackson would be a bargain.

Jackson is worth pick 2. Perhaps more

I don’t think anyone would debate that

The question is whether that’s the best use of that pick for us with our current list

I’d suggest it isn’t as primarily we need mids and whilst we also need a ruck, other sides have shown that a competitive ruck can be secured in a variety of ways without using such a high pick

That said, we need to maintain at least the pretence of interest to push up the cost for Fremantle as they did with Kelly

That doesn't surprise me at all, as I have him rated as the most talented kid in this years cohort.
I think he will become one of the competitions future stars.
Looks like he goes to the same hairdresser as Bailey Fritsch. The "hedgehog" is in fashion in some circles.

Note that we do not need to beat the salary pitch of Fremantle. What we do need is to show we can get the deal done and offer a decent deal. Player agents have warned players thinking they can take the highest deal if/when agents do not believe the club has the ability to trade the right currency.

Now as far as the deal goes, the PSD is my desired route. Since Melbourne do not have a R1 this year and we must use a R1 this year, there is no slide from 2 to 18 or whatever it means. We could do a pick 20 plus swap of R1 in 2023. Not ideal as we need to bank more talent.

Reality is that with their R1 this year and next year, the supposed deal they have for the Doggies with Lobb (it may look less likely with Darcy showing more early) the ability to trade out both Logue and Acres, Freo will have ample draft picks/trades to get the deal done

Why would Jackson want to come to us?
Clubs talk about the 5 pillars of strength at a football club - President/Chairperson, CEO, Senior Coach, Head of Football Operations and List Manager. We need to get our off-field right first because we look like a rabble.
1. President - Gibbs knows FA about football and is stepping down
2. CEO - Trev has been in the job for 24 years and has run out of steam but was just extended by 2 years
3. Senior Coach - Simmo successful but showing signs of losing the team, in charge when standards are slipping and being too stubborn in holding on to both his players and an outdated game plan too long
4. Head of Football Ops - Gavin Bell got the role by default when Vozzo disappeared and would not go close in credibility compared to Walsh or Balme or Viney
5. List Manager - The Pieman is double hatting it, never done the role before and has struggled doing it remotely (especially when borders shut)
Our list is being touted as the worse list for talent under 25. This is not a new thing, the last 7 best 22 under 22 teams back to 2016 have only included Oscar in 2021 and Ryan in 2019.

Personally I believe we need two things:
1. Rebuild the club off-field and address the deficiencies and shortcomings
2. Hit the draft hard for at least 3 years (at least that started in 2021). So 2 more years to go until we get to attract an highly desirable trade target. That is the cost of going for a second flag and falling short. When you go all in and don't get the jackpot, it has its consequences.

As an aside, that will put pressure on Fremantle to cough up more and teach return the Kelly favour. It will also see their salary cap tight for many years and allow us to go uncontested for returning WA talent.

Lol. Go watch the Hawks game. Ryan was hunting Jaith and ran him down at least three times.

Rioli also runs down opponents. They are the few who have thelegspeed to doit.
Watch the Richmond game Daniel rioli ran off ryan all game and played the best game of his career .

Ryan definitely pulled his finger out later in the year
