Frampton: was one punch man throughout. As dour of a defensive performance that I've seen from Billy, but he looked good doing it.
Maybe better to say Frampton: was one finger man throughout...he did play okay though, but perhaps not his best game.

Hey Mutineer - thoughts on Pedlar? I reckon his kicking will be fine when fully fit and more experience under his belt.
I've been a fan ever since his early Glenelg U18's games in his draft year and one of his school games the same year that was streamed...before injuries curtailed his season..

What's not to like...

Pedlar going to be an interesting one. He's a burst player. All explosiveness.
Means he's going to struggle at times, but what he does will be so incredibly exciting.
Pedlar's ability to hit the contest hard, and then butter up again is exhilarating .....gotta be played midfield to get maximum impact

Cook is a perfect example of how our fan base views any player that isnt an inside grunt with maximum effort, skills optional. Any time we bring someone along who has a slightly different game, which might be based on finesse rather than just charging into the contest fans start shouting at them that they're soft etc.

You can see why the club prioritises low skill plodders who crash in.
I think that attitude extends to our coaching staff.

Milera as a half back, Sholl/Cook as wingmen, Dawson as a wingman. We simply do not know how to utilise outside skill players.

We undervalue the role, overvalue crash n bashers. Balance is off.

Being at the ground and recognising early that my side wasn’t going to win, I thought I’d watch as dispassionately as possible. I’ve the following:

Taylor has time and space in contests and will be a good AFL mid with a bit more size.

Frampton could still make a 3rd defender. I noticed that when the Adelaide backs spoiled they would often hit the ball 30 metres or so.

Strachan has great lateral vision for a tall guy.

Pedlar is never going to win a Magarey/Brownlow but he may win games off his boot due to his explosiveness and impact with minimal touches.

It looks like Adelaide are serious about a tilt at the flag as well.

From a Norwood perspective, at least we kept at it and I think Kennerley could be a smoky chance at late drafting.

Hopefully Adelaide knock off North next week.

2 issues 1 who is underneath that will come in?
2 who do you drop??
BSmith was inconsistent but who replaces him??
We are carrying a lot of young guys already in the team that aren’t ready yet. If we go all young, we will end up like Melbourne under Neeld. We do need experience on the pitch.
I like how Nicks is selecting the players, he’s dropped crouch and given young players a go. We already have the youngest team in the competition, don’t think 1 or 2 senior players playing average will destroy the team

Why go in circles around this? I want more games into guys like Taylor, Pedlar, Cook etc and I don't particularly care whether they're 'ready'- we should do it anyway.

"Senior" players performing like Murphy, Smith, Matt Crouch did is not the difference between becoming "melbourne" (a club that still won a premiership sooner than we did with our fabled standards) or not. If you insist that they are, how? And don't give hackneyed indistinct answers like 'experience'.

The difficulty with the argument that there's a maximum cap on 'inexperienced' players is that those players are still inexperienced the next year, they havent played. And meanwhile you've got a whole nother group of inexperienced players to join them- your draftees. What do you do with all of these highly drafted players that it would never be ok to play?

I really don't see how Murphy and McHenry get many games next year if those players have a good run with injury.
IF...
Brown is done. Hammill and moose are doubtful due to their respective injury problems, then maybe Murph and Ned could be taught small defender roles.
Just saying...

I agree with you BUT Nicks doesn’t, he definitely has a quota of senior players. Murphy’s not really that experienced. The choice isn’t them as such, it’s picking McHenry or those. You need to choice the right players to get games into.
