He must’ve been copping some real stick from sections of the crowd..

Probably from some of our own supporters who dont rate him..

Think he’ll probably cop a fine for that middle finger though..

I hear what your saying about going too young but I think we should just play our best team. I don't subscribe to average age or average games. Just play your best team. If that's 15 young blokes so be it.

History says you are wrong. Look at GC and GWS in their first few years - and they were all high picks. Senior players do a lot more than just play the game. Direction, voice, encouragement and provide confidence - even at lower levels.

I think that attitude extends to our coaching staff.

Milera as a half back, Sholl/Cook as wingmen, Dawson as a wingman. We simply do not know how to utilise outside skill players.

We undervalue the role, overvalue crash n bashers. Balance is off.

All teams do tend to rebuild in layers - most defence first and then try and bring offense

Nicks clearly wanted to begin with contest (DNA) and if you can’t be at least reasonably contested you don’t get a look. I think this is why we have seen little to none of Sholl, Newchurch and Cook. Doesn’t mean they don’t have a future but they need to improve in that area to get a chance as we hopefully start to rebalance our approach as the squad gains experience

Why go in circles around this? I want more games into guys like Taylor, Pedlar, Cook etc and I don't particularly care whether they're 'ready'- we should do it anyway.

"Senior" players performing like Murphy, Smith, Matt Crouch did is not the difference between becoming "melbourne" (a club that still won a premiership sooner than we did with our fabled standards) or not. If you insist that they are, how? And don't give hackneyed indistinct answers like 'experience'.

The difficulty with the argument that there's a maximum cap on 'inexperienced' players is that those players are still inexperienced the next year, they havent played. And meanwhile you've got a whole nother group of inexperienced players to join them- your draftees. What do you do with all of these highly drafted players that it would never be ok to play?

And for this reason we will not be drafting many players this year and possibly next year. The club said s much early in the year that we are looking more towards trading in talent than hitting the draft

I agree with you BUT Nicks doesn’t, he definitely has a quota of senior players. Murphy’s not really that experienced. The choice isn’t them as such, it’s picking McHenry or those. You need to choice the right players to get games into.
Murphy is the 11th most experienced player on our list, 9th in terms of available players (so excluding Seedsman and Sloane).

Having now played 76 games he's experienced as far as our list is concerned

So we just freeze at a talent level not good enough to ever win a premiership?

Great idea.

They were pretty impressive yesterday against a Norwood team that came in to the game on a streak of 8 wins and 1 loss. That quick give by Taylor over the shoulder to a running Pedlar was a great bit of play. Taylor is looking very impressive. You wonder if he and Soligo had the opportunity to play more junior footy over those Covid years, if they may have not flown under the radar so much on draft day. And perhaps Pedlar could be that defensive forward with a bit more strength, class and skill than the McHenry, Murphy, Rowe types. At least initially. I also thought Nankervis looked pretty good as well, the way he creates space in close and feeds off. Hopefully his body can develop over the next couple of pre-seasons and he could be that big mid we still lack?

I think TT spent time in the reserves at the start of this year with the same instructions. I seem to remember Nicks asking for more contested footy from him.

VFL selection criteria for finals is pretty interesting, all they require is minimum 6 VFL games and no more than 12 AFL games.

If that was also the case in the SANFL, we'd have Crouch, Parnell, Milera and Hately all also playing for us in the finals

I didn’t realise that, shows how young we really are. He’s no lock in our best 22, we are so inexperienced

Some very impressive stuff in there.
Nankervis really has something.
Taylor has it.
Pedlar looked incredible.
Frampton really is a beautiful kick of the footy. Shame his defensive work is so poor.
Strachan is the best ruck in the SANFL.

And as for the bearded Flash. Hell he has some wheels.

Who is this McKenzie fella? Looks an upgrade on McHenry

Frampton's defensive work has improved considerably. He spoiled a lot more in this match, and they went miles.
I wouldn't get rid of him.

Yeh it's tricky one. How much more improvement does he have? He's been on AFL lists for a long time, and if the Collingwood deal is true, we probably don't want to match (either in $ or years).

Neither would I but that bulldogs game put him on the radar of other clubs. I would have only offered him a 1year deal. I bet Collingwood offered 2. Good luck to him. Hopefully he can hold down a spot.

Murphy won't be playing next year. He is a very average player.

Watching this final have to be happy some of our latest later draft picks played like .
Taylor -- very impressive skills and footy nous , why why didn't get a gig in place of those 3 not mentioning names at season end surely seen how eventually gave Worrall a go worked.
Nankervis -- Has real talent to compete and create run. Needs to size up but maybe by next season end may push AFL selection.
Turner -- still dont see point in selection as kids same size mid type players need to give AFL opportunities to but he was very very impressive in ball skills and nous.
My thoughts others .
Pedlar -- we paid big price to get him but very very impressive with his endeavour and run ,but like most of team disappointed when clear bombing into attack rather than looking .
Gollant -- big hopes for but was only passable on this game but attack ball in air well and thought both him and McAsey were unlucky to get paid mark or chopping arms frees.
E H -- not great but just does that something to think could happen.
Cook -- A real fan of and thought should not have been dropped but like others said needs to lift intensity . But a way off the draft pick we paid for so just hope it clicks for him as more talent in big toe than HFF that picked every game.
McAsey -- look his recovery is very poor but competed well in air and unlucky like listed under Gollant to not have more marks paid .
Hope get something reasonably worthwhile for or run his contract out .
Davis -- goodbye thanks
Frampton -- I think he is good player and would keep unless get a reasonable trade for.
Borlase -- only a rookie but think we can do better as cheap trade or late draft.
Sholl -- Think lost way a bit since got dropped but has skills and just hope maybe get a trade for as not Nicks type player.
Newchurch --- now we have Rankine I not sure worth keeping as very poor and much as love to have speed in AFL team dont think he is answer.
Finally can Bicks or someone else in know think would Kennerley who had chance at Geelong and was I believe in SA u-17 championship team worth looking at.
And what is Jack Hirds footy past as was impressive in defence with real intercepting skills and worth a low pick on with our defence back ups looking thin.
