I would agree that a recruitment strategy should be to target small forwards with late draft picks and rookie picks.Pick 8 is for Key position and gun midfielders in my book. As good as Kossie is that's quite the price for a small forward which IMO are pretty easily drafted.
I think it’s useless comparing other recruiters decisionsThese are the pick 8s since 2010

Pick 8 is far from a sure fire hit.
Normal strike rate. Pick 1 not much better
not much that you would give to much for... ballard?
But Geelong and Richmond aren’t based in Adelaide. This is why the Geelong / Richmond model of trading out picks for established players just works
Is it gun recruiting by Parker or gun development by Ken…I would agree that a recruitment strategy should be to target small forwards with late draft picks and rookie picks.
But we in our stupidity have not done that.
One of the knocks on our trading / recruiting / drafting is that we’ve routinely traded out of drafts and traded up in drafts, and have not used that area of the draft you might find small forwards.
So now we have a pretty strong list with a couple of obvious holes.
Future second for hunter Clarke is robbery. He’s a gun. Albeit with injury issues
What? I didn’t even realise he was moving. I loved him as a junior, he hasn’t quite developed as I hoped but there’s a good player there.
I think it’s useless comparing other recruiters decisions
Parker’s first rounders
Rozee
Butters
Georgiades
Bergman

Marshall

Bloke doesn’t miss a lot with early picks does he?
In fact without going back through our draft history has he busted on a first rounder yet?
I would happily trade out a good pick to land Pickett, not because we might bust on the pick, odds are we will draft well, but because it’s such a need for us, Pickett is quality, and Pickett is the right age.
But as I’ve said before can’t see it happening this year
The new pied piper coach of North will regenerate a new attitude from Horne-Francis.I don't see anything in Clark. A slow wingman/flanker who doesn't find enough of the ball. That draft from St Kilda was a complete car accident. Coffield is nothing to write home about either. Another slow boring vanilla player for North to add to their collection.
I doubt Melbourne would want to lose Pickett and Jackson in one off season if they can help it. Even if he requested a trade I suspect they would hold him to his contract regardless of the offer. He clearly hasn't checked out - unlike Horne Francis.
Its probably a very biased view, but I think it would smart to dump Horne Francis now rather than a year's time if you know he is gone. Pick 8 and pick 1 this year probably gets them a gun Victorian mid and a gun Victorian key forward.
Need to pick your marks: Why would Fiorini want to live in Adelaide?I have said for a while that Fiorini would be great for us. I rate him highly and if gold coast are gonna give him up for a 2nd round draft pick as a salary dump then it is a no brainer. we should also be looking at others we can get from gold coast as salary dumps to bring in good picks. Imagine if we could get a pick from gold coast in the 30s and then fwd it on for Rioli
I'd bloody love Ainsworth, but can't see GC letting him goGOLD Coast could trade out multiple players next month as it looks to execute an overhaul of its pay structure.
The Suns are poised to launch a pre-emptive strike on their salary cap – freeing up money to retain its emerging young talent and to make a play for an established player in the near future.
Gold Coast poised to launch pre-emptive strike on salary cap with trade activity
Is there anyone from gold coast we would even want? I just had a look through their squad and I don't really understand who they want to trade out...most of their young group you'd imagine they're desperate to keep...and there's not that many older players that you'd imagine would be on a big contract
I would take Witts off their hands but they'll want to keep him. Ballard is interesting, but would they even entertain trading him? Maybe Alex Sexton for a proven goalscorer?
Also I realised they still have Rory Atkins on their list
Or come hereI have wanted Touk Miller for a while. They will never let him go though.
Obviously not here to make friends. Good on ya.Is it gun recruiting by Parker or gun development by Ken…
It is to a point unless there’s a stand out like JHF.It’s really not a raffle…

He won't formally request it. But he will be fine if it happensHayes is gonna request a trade to Collingwood isn't he? just lol fukc this club

Totally ... Its not how much cash we can splash, its whether the Dees will agree.Yeah if Pickett leaves, it won't be this year. Any body getting their hopes up for that is pissing in the wind.

One diabolical draft in thirteen years hardly amounts to it being a raffle. the one thing our club has actually been ok at, is drafting. Way more hits than misses. It is to a point unless there’s a stand out like JHF.
As a said in the original post you could get a Paddy Dow a lot won’t remember him but he was pick3 in 2017 and now has been told to look at other avenues.
Even us we got Butcher at 8 and straight after Moore at 9 and that turned out a treat.
