I get that, but if they take all of those picks to draft night then they'll have to have list spots available to pick 5 more players, they basically need 7 spots on their main list to be able to use those picks for pts matching. If Gunston comes in then that's 1 less list spot available too.

Yes, but they can pick trade right up until they make the selection… which will be pick 1 and then whatever fletcher goes at. I’d imagine they’ll try package up some picks at some point or they’re completely clueless… honestly could be either considering how they mangled the Dunkley trade.

I don’t understand your middle paragraph.

But they can only use the number of draft picks available to match bids as they have open list spots. I.e they have 5 open list spots, they can only use their first 5 picks to match, the last 4 are useless.

But they can hold all 9 of them until the draft and package up at any time to trade with another team.
Clubs are allowed to have 2 excess picks over their open/available list spots, so 2 spots will be taken by Ashcroft and Fletcher, another one by Gunston and possibly another by Dunkley. That's 4 players coming in but they'll still have to use the remaining picks ie; they might trade for Gunston to keep the McStay compo as well as using 21 for Dunkley, but that still leaves 3 spots to fill and a lot less draft capital to match the 2 bids for F/S

Trade time is a joke , afl turn it into a circus
Should of been done by now

I get sucked in every year expecting it to be different.

Could have negotiated the peace treaty between Russia and Ukraine in the time I’ve spent on this thread

Forgot about the 2 picks over rule.

I’m still confused though. So gonna try walkthrough it.

Ashcroft and Fletcher won’t incur a list spot until they’re drafted.

So if they have 7 list spots right now, they trade for Gunston and Dunkley (which I can’t see happening unless Rayner or someone goes to get the capital) that leaves them with 5 list spots.

Therefore they can use 7 picks (as long as they have a points value which stops at pick 73) to match Ashcroft and Fletcher, leaving them with 3 list spots. Which they can fill with picks at the end of the draft or rookie upgrades.

If Hopper happens soon and Jack Graham has any concerns about midfield time why wouldn’t we inquire with Collingwood for a trade with Ollie Henry if Geelong are playing games. Win win for both clubs. JG much better for Woods than Mitchell and Henry would be a shot at taking over from Jack R.
Coz he wouldn’t get a game with us , who’s spot he take , cumbo, I dont think so

Hopper should take the AFL to the U.N. and do em for human rights abuses, forcing him to wear that shiteful bright orange for another weekend as opposed to the beautiful yellow and black of his homeland.

The un inspectors, are visiting Perth kids jails next week. To see if they need to do the oz gov for breaking torture rules.

Maybe gale can organise a 2for1

Is he best 22 if he comes across?

Lunch, Jack, Dusty, Bolton, Cumbers and MJ is a stacked forward line. Can’t see the point of trading for someone if they’re not best 22.
In my opinion, yes he could be best 22 unless Jack R is playing until 2030 and Dusty and Bolton are 100% forward time than it’s at least worth pondering more than where’s the best tuck shop on a trade forum.

Cats got bent over by the lions, 5 picks for 1

That one pick, only 13 places higher than the pick they lost (38 to 25) and next years 2nd round could be better!

Andrew Mackie literally showed his hand after one media article. Surreal

Mackie folded like a deck of cards, yesterday offering pick 38 or thereabouts, today pick 18 for Bruhn

And now brissy wins this trade easily and has enough points for Ashcroft and Flecther by receiving 2 X 2nd rounders, 1 X 3rd and 2 x 4th rounders. The cats gave up too much for pick 25.

Of course, they are wanting to pass that on to the pies, hope the pies reject it.

I think that's pretty much spot on.

My take is that they don't have 7 list spots available and they'll have to package some of those 9 picks (before any bids come) to get them back to a position where they can take players at the back of the draft and use their 'live' picks for matching.

I really can't see any way that they can get Dunkley either, unless they trade a player out.

Zac Bailey would be good, he's the player they took when we traded 15 for 22 & 25. Pity we don't have any capital left for 'shaking the tree'

And remember draft picks can be traded any time between trade period and national draft.

Agree they gave up too much, why not just offer 2 x 2nd rounders for Henry?

They'll still have to find something to give back to GCS for pick 7 too.

Could be isn’t is best 22.

There is no guaranteed spot for him next year. He is already shitty he isn’t playing week in week out at Collingwood so what’s happening in 2030 is irrelevant for him.

Plus we don’t have the capital to even get it done.

Besides everyone knows the best tuck shop is the tuck shop in Caulfield

Hmm not sure on this.
Bruhn has talent and has shown it in his first two years why he was a top 15 pick.
End of first round is more or less right.
He could go either way in development but on current output that’s fair value.

Geelongs haul for 25 looks lofty but we did similar for our pick swap for 27 with Collingwood last year. It will come down to what they do with this pick. Ollie Henry for 25 well worth it.
