What would be their reasons? I ask this as basically a draft numpty having very little knowledge on the rules and points system.
They rate him as the best player in the draft.

Victorian.

Probably a bit peeved by their level of compo and wouldn’t want to give other sides a break.

Have bid on academy players in the past.

That is just a manger doing his job. Dogs came out strong with the sending him to the draft talk. This is the return of serve from his manager. I'm yet to see our club say anything in the media or looking to provoke anything. We could have been going on about how the dogs want too much for him.

I’d poach one of the bulldogs young KPP’s who are out of contract in 2024. They’ll be close to peaking at that point and we can pay unders.
Naughton's accuracy in front of goal would certainly make him an ideal fit.

So right now we have eleventy squillion picks with points attached to them, but only a handful of actual list spots. Which essentially means that only our top 4 or 5 draft picks will be worth any points.

When is the deadline for us to finalise our draft hand? Is it Wednesday night when the trade period ends? Or do we get longer to trade draft picks etc and/or delist players after that time?

You can make pick swaps anytime up to the draft itself I believe.

We're only allowed to bring as many picks to the draft as we have open roster spots. Going by the roster thread, we have four Cat A rookies, meaning we're able to have a senior list of 38. We currently have 34 spots filled, allowing us four picks. If Gunston and Dunkley both come in, we're up to 36 spots and 2 picks. So we're going to have to delist a couple more players.

I'm going to assume pick 21 is part of any Dunkley trade, so that leaves us with four picks in the 30s, pick 48 and two 4ths. If we can get Gunston for a 4th or future 4th, that means we'll have five picks with a points value above 300, so we need to delist another three players. Note that Matho won't count as he's on the rookie list, not the senior list.

The players who were out of contract were Fullarton, McFadyen and Lester, but now that Lester has re-signed, clearly Fullarton and McFadyen will be delisted and probably re-signed later on. Who else will join them? Sharp? Nakia? Blake Coleman?

Will shift players to rookie list to open up spots.

Uggh what a waste of a pick

And Clayton Oliver was a Brisbane Lions supporter as a kid too.

Hindsight is a .........

If you want to see what an alternative draft might have looked like, take a look at the AFLTM 2015 draft here. Without the benefit of hindsight. Though draft picks were made with the existing squads in mind too.

I was/am playing the Adelaide Lions.

Sharp, Cockatoo, Zorko, Rich, Lyons.

Do you think there's a possibility of West Coast poaching Rich?

Don't think so. The names I've put forward would all be keen on finals/premiership and lowest risk factor around getting poached. They'll also understand why we're doing it. Zorko and Rich are likely on the final year of their career so delist/re-list shouldn't fuss them that much hopefully.

We can pick them up before PSD as well in the form of delisted free agents right after the draft. There is a delisted player free agency (3) that opens right after the draft ends and before pre-season draft happens on the next day. Dates below.

So far Dom and his team have done very well.

I suspect we'll be involved in the 'Mega Trade' and turn our current 21 into a higher first round pick to satisfy the Dogs.

We wouldn't have enough list spots available to take all 3,000 points / picks to the draft.

I think we'll be taking 5 picks to the draft in order to get us to our 2,400 points to be able to bid on Ashcroft.

At this stage, that would mean we would need to free up another 3 spots on the senior list. Matho is on the rookie list, so that won't free up a spot on the senior list either.

For me that will be the most intriguing part leading up to the draft. Freeing up three more senior list spots. Interesting that Lester has re-signed.

Lester resigning perhaps that’s on rookie list that we don’t know yet?

I think sharp and cockatoo would be two good options for a delist and redraft. Wouldn’t lose too much sleep if either of them got poached.

Zorko and rich also make sense as I doubt they’d pull a greenwood on us.

Hopefully we can move Matho on (as much as I love him as a character) to create another Rookie list spot to move someone else back.
If not, I fear for Dev being traded which I really hope does not happen.

We re-signed Prior until 2024 so I'm hoping for Dev to extend as well very soon.

He does have another year on his current deal. So I am hoping the club sticks with the talk of him being a required player.
