The more I think about the JHF trade the more i.dont understand. We just traded out 2 x number 1 picks for 2, 3 and Ports 1st next year.

In doing so we've snubbed the best key forward in the draft??

Winning

I'd say at this stage both of them have stalled in development and the ceiling has come down a fair way.

TT definitely had a shit year, last year he kicked 24 goals and had 15 assists playing in the middle, Clark has kicked 8 goals and 14 assists in 5 seasons.

I'm not as mad as others here tbh. Yeah it sucks we lost a "generational talent" (but that's still speculation at this point, the future is not written) but remember this is something Clarko likely signed off on. If he was confident with this trade, then I am too. We can still do very well with 2 and 3 who could well turn out to be stars. Only time will tell if this was a good call.

Now if it had been only 8 and a future first like was first proposed, yeah I'd be pissed.

I admit I’m not across the complexities of how the trades work and certainly not their value but even so I’m struggling to understand how giving up two pick 1’s for pick 2&3 translates into anything other than being f-ed over.

Please explain how we win out of this deal.
If we don't do this trade, after the draft we have Wardlaw and JHF

Having done this trade, we will have Wardlaw, Sheezel, Port F1, 40, 43.

So the difference is:
Out - JHF
In - Sheezel (pick 3), Port F1, 40, 43

We have moved from 2 to 1 but we don't lose value there because GWS want a guy that we wouldn't have taken with our top 2 picks.

So to quote @buttox

4 spots unspoken for once JHF is out.

6 picks available: 2, 3, 40, 43, 59, 70.

I suppose if we were lucky, we could package 3 into a second rounder for a team that needs a f/s.
40 and 43 for a Brisbane pick in the 20s.
Either use that pick or add it to our f2nd for clark.
Best guess.

What was the offer from Adelaide last year? 2 top 5 picks and another first rounder? Now we've given up TWO pick 1s for the same deal. Amazing.
No it wasn’t. It was pick 6 last year, picks in this years draft which turned out to be 5 and 13, and we were expected to give back our second round pick this year, which turned out to be 19.

I’m ok with getting pick 2 and Port’s 2023 first rounder instead.

Not forgetting that at that point Horne-Francis looked rolled gold. Much less certain now.

Just love all the melts going on in here. I don’t know what you lot wanted but we now get a future first rounder meaning probably 2 top 10 picks next year - that’s first. Then there is this year - all you clowns are you happy to settle for ONE of Wardlaw/Cadman/Sheezel/Tsatas. Because now we get 2 of those 4 and it will most likely be Wardlaw and Sheezel which as I’ve said for a few weeks we were aiming for 2 of those top 4. Unbelievable position to be in over the next 2 drafts yet there’s a whole bunch of sooks wanting to burn the joint down. Get some perspective.
Chill bro, ppl be upset that we lost a really great prospect and a 1st round pick seemingly for 2,3 and a 12-18 next year.

Let people mourn in there way for a bit and we can then celebrate on draft night

It would be very dangerous to move this pick on IMO. Port could potentially be Top 4 or Bottom 4 next year. If they start poorly, Hinkley will be sacked and they may just choose to blood all their kids and do a mini rebuild and finish Bottom 4.

If it were Geelong's F1 or Richmond's I can understand moving it for Clark but i dont like moving this one for someone the Saints seem ok letting go of. The fact the Saints are even contemplating letting him go says a lot to me given their situation
The saints are a basket case and best of all they don't know it yet.

No young talent.

They will be trying to rebuild when Tassie comes in.

We didn't trade two number-one picks.

We traded one number-one pick and will still take the same exact players as had we not made the trade.

The other piece we traded was somebody who didn't want to be here and who was surpassed by many others in his draft year. A kid with a bad attitude, who will refuse to play for less than 800k a year and will never gain the respect and friendship of his teammates.
