Unless we get the Hawks second - we must keep Meek.

It sucks for Meek to be waiting in the wings for one more year but it's critical that we have someone ready to go if Jackson or Darcy miss games. What's the likelihood of them both playing 22+ games?

We are contending next year, and we can't get rid of more solid depth for a future 3rd rounder. I can live with a second but a third is peanuts. We're better off keeping him for one more year. Sorry Lloyd.

Do you think we come across as huge nuffies when teams from other clubs come lurking in here as others do when we go lurking?

Nah. We're the smartest supporters in footy, no real nuffies here.

If it’s 4 years to flatten out his salary to the same as Tucker was on ~400k I could live with it.
I saw GWS are considering trading 19 if the hawks pay his entire contract!
If we’re paying (restructuring) his salary I expect us to pay virtually nothing in picks.
But why?? He is clearly not a need and he is a player crippled by his injuries. If we wanted a big bodied mature mid I'm sure there are many better options out there that wouldn't cost too much. This just feels rushed so Freo might know something we don't about one of our mids, hence the mature pickup as cover.

Conca and Colyer was perfectly fine for what we paid and what they gave, this is a different level of gross

Yeah this is a bit different. O'meara will be expected to start and take key roles in the midfield. I'd much rather maintain Fyfe, Serong, Brayshaw and Brodie rotating with Erasmus/Johnson than O'meara. It's a marginal short term gain for the team but a negative impact on the long term development of our young mids.

I can only imagine how Sydney supporters feel coming over here and there's a new "How do we get Logan McDonald to Freo?!" post each year. For Melbourne supporters our obsession with JVR must be confusing too

Good lord it gets worse, maybe Danster wasn’t so bad after all.

The issue is can Fyfe be expected to take a key role in the midfield full time again? IF he is a hybrid fwd/mid then our oldest mid is 23 years old.

If O'Meara isn't the answer we do need mature help in there somewhere otherwise we just won't beat the mature teams when the pressure is on in finals

There would be some significant differences between us and GWS when it comes to JOM.

We could eat the salary, so wouldn’t need to give as much.

But why would the hawks need to move his salary? There’s no one else on that list to pay.

The disparity between how they value O'Meara is similar to many, many people on this board view Fyfe: We see them as still adjacent to their best or capable of reaching it if all goes well rather than viewing them as they are now. They see 2018 O'Meara, we see 2018 Fyfe.

It's the supporters blindspot.

They have one Serong. We have another. Who the coach would think is the second coming of himself. It's not hard to see what is coming from Hawthorn.

I am really worried they will put some stupid offer in front of Caleb like 1.5 million in the first 2 years of a long deal which averages out to a number we simply can't afford with the other players on our list. We will be needing Caleb to sacrifice his earning capacity for success.

Sam Mitchell does strike me as a character from Horrible Bosses, in that he’d be willing to absorb some of the players payments into his coaching contract.

Yeah but it’s even worse as plenty of us don’t even live in Victoria so how could we possibly know anything about the VFL AFL

2018 - Hawks 4th - JOM 5th B&F
2019 - Hawks 9th - JOM 3rd B&F
2020 - Hawks 15th - JOM 8th B&F (played 12 matches!)
2021 - Hawks 14th - JOM 3rd B&F
2022 - Hawks 13th - JOM 7th B&F

Seems a decent consistent player, regardless of Hawks finishing position.

Like I said, one to look at, not chase, but stop acting like he isn't best 22. He, if nothing else is a direct Mundy replacement. Erasmus or Johnson don't start ahead of O'Meara. Whether he is what we want considering our young kids is completely different to whether he would be best 22.

Best 22 without question.
There are 14 defenders and forwards which he is not. There is 1 ruck and at least two wingers, all of which he is not. That leaves 5 midfield spots.

Brayshaw
Serong
Brodie
Fyfe

He's last picked. Borderline B22 by definition.

He's no Mundy replacement, he can't kick. Johnson or Erasmus should, because in 2 years time JOM will be 31 and those two probably looking elsewhere for opportunity.
He can kick at least, Erasmus was pretty putrid at AFL and WAFL level
No he cant, he is really average. Like old school Fyfe.

Where do you guys sort of side in the JOM situation, any word on you guys offering an extension? The Age saying we've offered a 3 year extension not sure if a similar offer has been made by your mob

Someone on the Hawks board who is apparently in the know said we’ve offered 4 years, do not want him if that’s what it takes.
