Yes, Colina is miles off VFL level. It’s a shame there isn’t a VFL reserves anymore because he’s a liability to the team in his current stage of development. Will be an amazing outcome if our coaching staff can mould him into a footballer capable of playing at an elite level. Very interesting project to follow.
Lets not forget how far back Soldo came from. Saw some signs from Colina last year. Just needs more games into him.

A lot of wishful thinking on here with Ryan.

A massive step up for any key position player from VFL to AFL. So far he has struggled massively against any decent ruck at VFL level, which is fine given he is 21 but there is little guarantee he will be ready to contribute next season.

Very happy Soldo didn't want to leave.

I don’t recall seeing Ryan struggle against any VFL rucks in 2022. Maybe some he didn’t dominate but he always looked competitive. I don’t think he is a past the post player, but there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about Critter Ryan.

Geez,I wonder why that might be? Played footy about 5+ years ago, comes back in July after playing basketball for those 5 years and you expected what? John Coleman type ability?
Get a grip some of you people, he’s a category B rookie who is a long term look. At least wait until he’s had a single AFL pre-season to change his body shape and fit in with the game style.

i'm the opposite - i think in the very short time he's being playing post basketball he actually showed a little bit - will be Soldo Mk 2 (without the injury)

I've heard a rumour from my hairdresser's nephew's cousin, that he spoke to Jeff Hogg this afternoon , who knows Wayne Campbell, and that Campbell heard through Brooke Cotchin that we are negotiating with West Coast to trade Castagna and pay half his contract.
Alot of effort for a shit post

i agree here .... i think he shows mungrel .... needs to clunk more marks .... but his body still has a way to go - and im bullish

He obviously and predictably made some errors that were way below normal VFL standard, but I agree he definitely showed some good little glimpses. Great tackling intent, and can run. No leap to speak of but really looking forward to seeing what big Mate can produce off a full pre season. I am expecting him to be around average VFL standard in 2023. If he meets that marker then he might be on a decent track.

still rate Stack as well - like you hoping that he's done enough - but will back club either way with the decision they make ....

If it’s between Stack or RCD for a list spot I’m going with Stack.

Which is disappointing as I had high hopes for RCD.

If Stsck or RCD don't make the list, they will be delisted and re-rookied from what I heard.
That leaves the door open for other clubs to take them.

I hope you saw some better moments than me then. The few partial games I saw (which is no sample really), unless it was kicked to him like you might pop a pass up to him at high post, he wasn't moving to get anything above his head - which I thought was a real pity because above HIS head is a massive advantage. Even when moving like you might roll to the basket, he lost the flight of the ball. First season though. He did play juniors, he did get into the U16 Vic squad or something like that, which is why I was really hopeful. Very likeable bloke though - you would want him to succeed - just not sure he does enough on grass.

Not saying delist him. Just saying he is a very long shot to make it at all and no chance to impact the seniors next year, which is where this line of conversation began. Will be interesting to see how far our coaches can take him.
It’s a shame the old VFL reserves isn’t still up and running as he’s nowhere near ready for VFL.

Get a grip? It’s an opinion. Some on here react like your talking about their mum if you say anything slightly negative.

That is just flat out bullshit. His stats as first ruck V some of the dominant rucks from the VFL -

Tom Campbell - 16 disposals, 2 goals, 2 marks, 40 hitouts.
Ryan - 13 disposals, 1 goal, 3 marks, 37 hitouts.

Tom downie (AA team) - 11 disposals, 4 marks, 0 goals, 28 hitouts
Ryan - 18 disposals, 8 marks, 3 goals, 29 hitouts

Brayden Crossley (grand final ruck) - 15 disposals, 1 goal, 3 marks, 33 hitouts
Ryan - 11 disposals, 0 goals, 4 marks, 25 hitouts

Callum Sinclair - 12 disposals, 0 goals, 3 marks, 20 hitouts
Ryan - 11 disposals, 0 goals, 5 marks, 26 hitouts

CBF doing anymore....but you get the point.

I definitely saw little passages of play I was impressed with, as I said, in between all the keystone cops play. But I cannot recall too many precedents for him being plucked mid season from another sport with no fair preparation whatsoever. It is likely to be a bonus he got to play at all, and should just be viewed as something that will give him a head-start on his pre season for 2023. It certainly showed up some big rfi’s. If Mate makes it then I think it may be as a very different player to what people expect, I saw him really get a head of steam up once in particular so the bloke can run.
