Before trade week: "Mitchell is past it and is a liability. People harp on about him being a Brownlow medallist but that was 4 years ago and irrelevant to today".

After trade week: "But, but, but! He was a Brownlow medallist!!!!"
Show me One poster who suggested a return of first round??? Don't try to be the positive one for the sake of it. Bad dealing is bad dealing.close to awful actually.

We weren't that bad because our backline worked it's arse off, and our transition football was at times bloody exciting.
Our MIDFIELD craft, in terms of not just winning the footy but what we did with it with first use, when TOM and JOM was incredibly disappointing.
When Newk looks a star through the center, while a Brownlow medalist accumulator and fellow strong bodied Omeara can't with any regularity make us dangerous playing through that area in their natural positions, why the hell would you want to continue that storyline?

Insanity reigns.
Insanity is expecting our team to improve with new fringe vfl and wafl players and late draft picks.

No way they replace our leading goal kicker, contracted Brownlow medallist, contracted star who we rated highly enough to pay more than two first rounders a few years ago.

Proven quality who were offered significant deals from other clubs. If these were free agent deals, we probably would have got more.

Plus it sounds like we are paying some of their salary too.

Completely shafted and if you think this year was bad, then you will see how badly we miss these stars next year.

Freo don't have it's 2nd right?

Correct, they traded it in the Jackson deal.

As I said earlier, they're notorious for reporting these late trades wrong. They have so many to write up that they get lazy on the future pick origins.

We weren't that bad.
At least we finished 13th with them in the team and 8 wins.
Mitchell 5th and JOM 7th in B&F.
Overall, the team showed a lot of promising signs with a good blend of youth and experience.
Next year is not going to be pretty.
ffs as a team maybe not so bad, but our midfield was not that great

I just can't see how we can move up the draft with this hand... I know we have two seconds next year also.

But forget a play for pick 2 or 3 now.

Lions need points, but when are they even entering the draft now?

Bombers would be keen on a future as they have Davey... Would we go for 22 for Dogs future second, and change?

Jaeger O'Meara joins Fremantle, Lloyd Meek joins Hawthorn

People want it both ways. 'JOM and Tom won't be part of our next premiership team. Trade them!'

Trades JOM and Tom for two solid younger player's and some picks....

Sack MM!!!!!

This board can be laughable but these responses take the cake.
Wrong, we can expect a fair trade. Meek for O'Meara had me going sack MM. Since then its been confirmed we got a future second with Meek.

So over all i am happy with our trade period.

We keep them get some leadership and protection for the kids set training standards and someone to talk to them about their game in game and after the game that isnt a coach. The kids also get another 20 games into them. That is more valuable than picks we got. Unless we are taking 4 picks unless we upgrade some of those picks they are wasted

Yeh, I guess we see it differently.

At ZERO stage this year did I think our 'kids' needed protection because they were getting bashed around, humiliated, punked, or becoming despondent because of our losses.

To me, the young kids offer way more in leadership and playing ability than either Tom or JOM can produce.
Would have been happy for JOM to stick, even captain the Club, because I like how he conducts himself.

But I don't reckon either one of them has much to show the younger group coming through in terms of 'the way' to prepare for senior footy.
One thing Sam and others have made mention of - it's the young kids who are out before and after training working by themselves to get better.
NEVER seen a more professional or aspirational group of young draftees come through at Hawthorn than Ward, Connor, and Newk.
If anyone's leading the way to a new Hawthorn Dawn, it's those three right there.

So assume bulldogs make finals it’s picks 29 or worse next year

Didn’t realise we threw in our future 4th (which is almost a 3rd rounder given how bad we’ll be next year - that would have been enough for lobb)

Not as bad as the Mitchell deal but prob worse than hoped.

What happened to gws?

Hawthorn National List and Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie said the deal done with the Dockers puts the club in a strong position.

“We are delighted to be bolstering our draft hand for 2023, while also ensuring a positive outcome for Jaeger to finish his career closer to home,” McKenzie said.

“We have a clear plan to be adding the best possible young talent to the club, and to now add another early pick for next season.

“This year's trade period was the next step in a longer plan to develop our list and return to premiership contention, and we won’t get there if we don’t make bold decisions.

“The club would like to acknowledge Jaeger’s service to the Hawthorn Football Club over the past six seasons and thank him for his contribution to the Hawks.”

Our leading goal kicker was Breust followed by Lewis in 2022.

What a whingefest , yeah would have been nice to get a higher pick but cr@p happens

If JOM picks GWS they had pick 19 ready to go for us, easiest trade ever . But we get stuck dealing with Freo ....

Meek is a nice get , ready to go and at worst gives protection for Reeves.
Stephens could be an absolute bargain , exact mid we need.
Amon or Anon as noone is mentioning him .

Yeah we probably take a step back but Im excited about the young group we have

We need to find elite talent. JOM and TOM were not there.

This gives us the best chance. I'm glad Smitch has made the call because blind freddy could see we don't have the talent.

A proper rebuild will see us actually compete for silverware - not middle of the road plodders.
