Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

Does everyone realise their is a draft still to come? Some of the melts are ridiculous.

We had the worst midfield in the land for the last two years with Mitchell and Jaeger, it was only getting worst with them ageing and staying. Theirs a reason 5 clubs weren’t jumping up and down for said players.

We got rid of some sunk costs from the wright and clarko post flag era and get to move one with a young core and focus as we are on this and following drafts. Need dgb and ward to come on but unsure how their can be so much doom and gloom for players that helped us achieve nothing…

Best of luck to Tom and omeara but I couldn’t be more happy to see them gone.

Amon is a great pickup and we finally have some competition for ruck and midfield spots…that means better development at training and everyone pushing to be in the 1s. We literally couldn’t drop omeara and Mitchell as we were trading them.

Bring on the draft and pre season reports

It does not matter what a player has done in the past, it matters what they will do in the future.

It was obvious Tom Mitchell could not keep up with Sam’s run and gun game plan. Watching Tom this year trail the pack was maddening. He would make his way into space in the middle and so still rack up the possessions, but it left some of our players in a 2 on 1s.

Don’t get me wrong, Tom Mitchell is a brilliant extractor, fit Clarko’s defensive strategy, and will likely fit in well with the Pies. But I’d prefer our midfield has even numbers with, or outnumbers, the opposition around the ball.

Cooper Stephens is a gut runner who won his draft years combine yo-yo test and performed well in the 2km time trial. He will fit in nicely with our other gut runners in Ward, CMac, Moore, Nash, Long, and Butler.

Don't think he will fit in with the pies, considering they have the same game plan. Was odd that they were keen on him. Expecting them to go backwards next year, with the pressure all on him.

If we can package up all these late picks for something decent I’ll be a bit happier but otherwise all these late picks aren’t great for a rebuild. Stephens is a nice addition if he can show a bit, had a few years in a good system.

Hawthorn National List and Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie said the deal done with the Dockers puts the club in a strong position.

“We are delighted to be bolstering our draft hand for 2023, while also ensuring a positive outcome for Jaeger to finish his career closer to home,” McKenzie said.

“We have a clear plan to be adding the best possible young talent to the club, and to now add another early pick for next season.

“This year's trade period was the next step in a longer plan to develop our list and return to premiership contention, and we won’t get there if we don’t make bold decisions.

“The club would like to acknowledge Jaeger’s service to the Hawthorn Football Club over the past six seasons and thank him for his contribution to the Hawks.”

"Clear plan to be adding the best possible young talent to the club."

Well it would have been nice if that actually happened.

He will be perfect for them. When packs form he gets the ball and gives it to the Daicos'.

DeGoey has the inside speed.

Pendles has never been quick and would never be questioned for impact.

Most for years: Mitchell and omaera are worth nothing.

Mitchell and omaera get players who at least provide us a chance to develop: push overs!

Mitchell and omaera were not providing anything. Neither could kick, both struggled to run, and they didn't provide any leadership either.

In isolation, you'd hope for more, but it's not like we are being left with nothing. They were two of the biggest passengers in 2022

Sorry but you just cant spin this as a good result. To those saying youre happy with these trades ask yourself honestly what you were expecting to get a couple of hours ago for trading out JOM and TOM and compare it to the actual outcome. We've basically been bent over and if we're also paying any of their salaries its borderline ineptitude. I seriously hope it somehow works out and Stephens or Meek turn into exceptional senior players or we hit draft gold with one of the late picks, but even then we've still got to take a hard look at the trading strategy as a club because long term its a loser
