If Busslinger is still available at our pick, I can see WCE madly on the phone to us......however, they'd likely want to hang onto their pick #12 so they can grab at least 2-3 of Ginbey/Hewett/Busslinger/Allen with #8, #10 and #12. Would be a huge haul for them bringing in 3 first round local boys in the one year.

I could see something like - Carlton >> pick #10 and f2, WCE >> pick #20 and f1 - being on offer.

All hypothetical of course, but if pick #20 lands us Brayden George - and we have two 1st round picks in 2023 - we'd effectively be bringing in 3 first round picks next year, followed by the Campo twins in 2024.
This is a deal I'd be interested in - gives us a chance of a high pick in 2023.

Think Allan either becomes a tall wingman or he becomes a Charlie Ballard type

Your trade hypothetical is pretty well the trade I hope we look to do.

WCE forfeit their next years 1st (which most likely will be a top 5 pick) to pick up a WA kid they rate highly and get that extra year into 3 or so home grown talented kids. While Carlton get their pick 20 and take one of George/Hotton, Allan at 29 and maybe a player like Leary at 47 this year and go into the 2023 trade/draft period with a high pick thanks the WCE and whatever we end up with.

Straight off the bat it puts us into a very strong position draft hand wise. It doesn't sound as sexy this year taking 2 or 3 picks 20 onwards with some upgrades, but if we choose well, we would be in a great position as there's talent that will go deep in this draft.

Allan looks a bit by the numbers for mine.

Does a lot of things well, but just doesn’t have a lot of major strengths apart from his endurance.

Prefer Hustwaite as a taller midfield prospect. Seems to be more bedded down as an inside mid, pulls off some surprisingly good kicks, and I like his anticipation around the ground. Gets back fairly deep to help out and looks pretty capable in the air.

Think he’s closer to Bontempelli with his skillset than Allan.

Austin has indicated they are focused on improving our draft hand in the upcoming draft, l don't believe this option you have flagged is likely, particularly on the back of the last 2 drafts when we have had very few picks of note.

I know what has been stated. Can't just better our hand "this year" just because we have said so. Need a team that's happy to accommodate this move and there 17 teams out their I'm sure who also would like a better hand at the draft.

Of course I'd like 3 picks inside the top 25 but is it going to happen? Can't just have one scenario

Lots of ideas being thrown around.

With pick 10, are we more likely to draft for need ..ie mid/HF - good ball user, goal scorer etc

Or draft best available player?

Hopefully we can do both at pick 10.

My observations of the current set up is that they will go BPA early and draft for needs in later rounds.

My top 15 phantom if anyone cares...

1. Ashcroft - Brisbane (bid)
2. Cadman - GWS
3. Wardlaw - North
4. Sheezel - North
5. Tsatas - Essendon
6. Humphrey - Gold Coast
7. Mackenzie - Hawthorn
8. Clark - Geelong
9. Ginbey - West Coast
10. Phillipou - St Kilda
11. Hollands - Carlton
12. Busslinger - Bulldogs
13. Hewett - West Coast
14. Jefferson - Melbourne
15. Davey Jnr - Essendon (bid)

As a rule draft the best available player. Trade for needs (eg. Acres).

Picking for a current need such as a mid/HF and then waiting a couple of years to see if the kid has developed physically and mentally for AFL is a bit risky.

Likely to be pretty close mate. That 5-10 range is a bit open. Some rumours have * “reaching” for Clark and leaving Tsatas and Phillipou could go higher. Could be some shuffling there. Reckon you are very close 11-14, given rumours and my perception of needs, but Davey, for me is a bit high. We all want Dodo to pay through the nose, but really is a second rounder for mine.

I like yr top 15 pick phantom, happy with our outcome too. Hollands is the astute selection we need.
Busslinger would have been a good option also, but plenty of talented talls in next years cohort probably superior to the 2022 choices.
Furthermore Weitering & Young are doing fine , better then
capable tall defenders, and will be so for another 5 years at least.
