Don’t have access to the article but listening to the podcast:

-Hewett is likely to slide to back end of first or early second due to behavioural concerns, with GWS interested (I still believe Eagles are a strong chance to take him at 12 FWIW)
-Sydney interested in Barnett in the first round
-Eagles expected to take Kaleb Smith and Darcy Jones in the second round
-Tsatas has flipped as the leading contender for bombers first pick, over Phillipou, after the training session at Gosher’s paddock (apparently tore it apart)
-Eagles may bid on Alwyn Davey

Hewett’s situation is intriguing. It sounds like some clubs have penned him entirely. In an interview he said he expects that he’ll be taken in the 8-12 range. Presumably that’s because the Eagles and the Saints have shown interest. I suspect St Kilda may be foxing by showing interest in Hewett, in the hope it gets the Eagles to select him with their first pick. That could then enable the Saints to get McKenzie.

It sounds like GWS has some interest in him, so it’s unlikely he gets through to our third pick.

I think it’s very optimistic to think he’ll slide to our third pick.

My guess is that we won’t take him with our first 2 picks and we’ll miss out on drafting him, unless we trade for picks from Sydney or GWS.

I think our draft will look something like this:

1. McKenzie (I’m assuming Clark, Ginbey and Phillipou are all taken).
2. Jefferson (Allan is possible but I suspect he’s gone already)
3. Burgiel
4. Kaleb

Then again, Ginbey could be their 2nd or 3rd choice. You would still want to speak to him. They would hate to get to draft day and their first choices are gone and their next favorite is a player they didn't really interview properly.
True, but Zoom breaks down distance barriers these days. By attending in person it seems to me that they’re selling the Gold Coast club to the Ginbeys.

I reckon it could go down something like this:

1. Bris - Ashcroft
2. GWS - Cadman
3. NM - Wardlaw
4. NM - Sheezel
5. Ess - Phillipou
6. GC - Ginbey
7. Haw - Tsatas
8. Gee - Clark
9. WC - Mackenzie
10. STK - Humphrey
11. Car - Busslinger
12. WB - Hollands
13. WC - Jefferson

As mentioned above, I reckon we might gamble on Hewett being available for our 3rd pick but miss out

As much as we want mids, Jefferson to me still shows a lot of promise. He could be a great pairing with Oscar up forward for many years. Also damn... surprised to see Allen is turning 24 already next year. Time flies.

Would love if we could get either of Tsatas or Clark with our first pick. Would still be happy with Mckenzie. Ginbey, I'm not too excited on. To me he kind of seems like a bigger Matt Rowell. And not peak first 3 games Matt Rowell, but current day Matt Rowell.

Of course, it's too early to say any of this and I'm going off about 3 championship games and some blurry Youtube clips.

Should be an exciting few nights nonetheless!

EDIT: Forgot Humphrey before so added him in lol

No. I'd keep 2 and take FIGJAM Philipou.

Flog yes, but also going to be the best in this draft IMO. Still a year younger than most if these other kents.
For fear of getting in to a chode eating contest... which sexy draft pick have you gotten right? Eli Smith appears a bust and the jury is still very much out on Angus. I would have pegged you for a Hewett man so your love of the Poo makes me want Hewett even more.

Zac Bailey :whitecheck:

Thicc Angus i'm bullish but jury is out.

Laverde is serviceable. Ely has been lame.

It's also a bit hard to tell when we pretty much never get a pick this high. Normally I'll find some kent to get around and our pick will be in the teens.

I'm very keen on Hewett. Honestly wouldn't cry if we took him with 8.

Maybe the Pieman is looking for Melbourne to want to swap 12 and 13 to take Jefferson. Having traded Jackson, Dees have plenty of future picks to ensure we get vale.

Example - 12 and Eagle’s F3 for 13 and Freo’s F2. Do it. Keep talking up Jefferson.

It could also be Sydney that are interested!

Ginbey and Allan. Looking like GC shapes our first pick, take Humphrey and we’ll get Ginbey. Take Ginbey and we’ll get Mackenzie/Clark/Maybe Allan depending on who slips through. Second pick would be surprised if it’s not Allan or Jefferson. The noise tends to get a lot more accurate at this stage.

I don't really understand why any club speaks publicly or privately to the media about what their drafting plans and intentions are. Whether it is indicating interest in a particular player or even just saying you intend to draft a particular type of player with your first pick there is no benefit to any club doing this. It just signals to other clubs with picks before yours that certain players they might be interested in won't make it to their next pick. I realise that it is the slow part of the year and we all like information from our clubs to talk about but personally i would prefer WCE to behave like a poker player and not allow any information about anything out and then just take their best shot on draft day.

Exactly.

I never never NEVER got the outlandish hype around Johnson. He always looked lame to me. Yet i heard everything from speedy rebounding defender to "hurn replacement" because of his apparent booming kick. Not even close. Undersized midget who wasn't near AFL quality.

Hoping Smith doesn't turn out similar. I really don't want us to beat his attacking flare out of him, that's the biggest thing with him being a decent prospect IMO. Lose that and he's meh.
Don’t worry, I’m sure Simmo will sort him out, run forward 30m, stop, prop, run around in a circle and then pass the ball backwards to a free man at full back.
Works a treat every time and we all love to watch it.

I don't get the Jack Crisp comparison for Ginbey

Is it just cause Ginbey put Crisp down as the player he models his game on?

Crisp provides a lot more dash
