Weak as piss. Woeful waste of a pick. Does anyone remember the look on his face draft night when we called him?? He flat out looked shattered. Called it at that moment that he’d be gone asap.

I remember it absolutely but I think you are using it to suit your agenda. Not everyone smiles constantly and it's farkin annoying that people who don't show high energy are assumed to be disinterested. He signed another contract, if he hated it that much he would've pulled a Horne-Francis. I don't think the facts support your idea.

I hope Fischer finds joy in what comes next but I am still ropable the club wasted the pick. I would never use a first round pick on a defender that wasn't generational. Just pick midfielders and key forwards and send busts to the backline to see if they make it. Butts and Murray are showing that you can find serviceable defenders anywhere. Or, if you are desperate and cashed up, trade a KPD in.

Definitely will be getting paid if it’s a mental health issue given the way contracts are done

It's so ridiculous if he stays and takes up a list spot and gets paid. If the mental health issue was caused in the workplace or he sustained an injury in the workplace then fine but personal issues and the like shouldn't be included. That's what income protection and Insurances are for.

Toby Greene has a lovely smile.;)

Does this mean we are able to have a player train on with us over the summer and be added to the list? Genuinely no idea so would be great to know.

Yes, Adelaide will be able to add an extra rookie player either via the supplemental period prior to the season or at the mid season draft - or just leaving it open all season.

Does he get paid for this year?

He will be paid a settlement that is around 2-3/12ths of his contracted value given that's how much of the season he has worked so far.

You've gotta love the quality of fact checking in the football media these days. Excellent, top notch

Fair go. This Jackson Graham might be a work experience student. Cut him some slack.

another quick piece of work. Wikipedia already has Fish as a former AFL player.

"Fischer McAsey (born 8 March 2001) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL)"

tbf., Graham would not have written the headline. The article has it correct. The sub-editors (such as they are) got it wrong

Confirmed what we already know

McAsey was an absolute bust pick

Hopefully this will result in the McAsey rule at the club

No more using 1st round picks on KPD

Phil Davis, Daniel Tahlia, Jake Lever all say hi.

A quality elite KPD is a definite requirement and most premiership teams have one. Unfortunately we just picked the wrong one in the wrong year

No desire to improve? That's pretty dark for someone so young hope he gets the help he needs.

When we originally interviewed him I wonder if the signs were there or this stuff all began after that family incident occurred?

More of a pure ‘talent ID’ issue than anything, combined with us feeling the need to target who we thought was the best KPD in the draft to fill a list need, even if was a reach

Just a matter of us convoluting things that year

I have a theory based on some things that were said on draft night about how leaving Melbourne would "be good for him" that maybe all involved went in saying "He's a bit too sheltered, doesn't get out and maybe expanding his life, moving out of home and going into a new environment with his football will help him grow".

So all parties agreed, they tried hard, hey, we go to Melbourne every month so you we'll bring you along for that to catch up with family, they'll come over too for home games, then COVID happens and those trips can't happen, then his Dad gets sick and that's even worse. Just the worst circumstances all hitting at once for a guy like that, then his play suffers as well because of it and it's absolutely killed whatever interest he's had in footy.

On the latter, is that coming from some knowledge of the rules or an assumption? And given he hasn’t returned I’d say he’s worked zero so far

Think they probably work from October?
Isn’t that when contracts go to and from?

In his first year he look pretty good, taking good marks and moving well. I think he could have made a pretty good go of it actually but his Dad, COVID and mental health issues meant he never really fired much after the first season.

Nothing wrong with having a crack, KP players are worth a crack if they look good, Filthy and other previous ones are examples

Unfortunately Haggis has had a few recent failures at the top with Fish, Gallucci and Jones. Gallucci was as accomplished as McHenry but got ditched and Jones is building so not a right off yet...
