Is Markov a defender? Maybe that’s the area of the ground that the coaches feel is thinnest if we cop an injury or two on the night? The other sub contenders aren’t defenders.

Yes he is. A running half back defender

Its quite bizarre off one... solid performance. Meanwhile Macrae was been so far the better performer over 2 weeks.
Must be the whole leg speed aspect.
I think it’s versatility, better to have a sub that can play a few positions than a pure on baller

Yeah leg speed on a small ground could be it and perhaps team balance with how we want to set up the ground v Brisbane, but having watched Gettable tonight I think McRae loves what he brings to the table in general.

Good luck to him and I hope he takes his chance I just didn’t rate his work on Saturday. McRae talks often about the boys playing AFL footy at VFL level and I didn’t see it from Markov. To borrow your term he was solid ball in hand, but the other stuff I see from our defenders at the top level the intercepting, covering for teammates and actual defending wasn’t as evident. Like the Begg call last year it contradicts his mantra, IMO.

The McRae/ Marcov bromance will rival Buckley/ Blair by the time Oleg finishes up at the club… I’ve got NFI how he’s managed to leapfrog the likes of Ginnivan, Allan, Ryan, Carmichael, Ruscoe, Macrae, Bianco and Wilson on performance!

Most logical decision this year??? Knows the conditions and better equipped with speed and more experience. Might also chop out Frampton for a few minutes in defence whilst he rucks.

Another good option

Yep scratching my head on this one as well.

He’s got pace, he’s more likely to impact the game late then those options.

Also I’m strongly against using the sub role for debutants so that rules out Allan and Ryan for mine.

Exactly. Markov in will free up Nick and or WHE on a HBF or wing If needed.
He played really well in the VFL.
Wish him the best.
If he comes in at the start of the 4th he has extreme pace.

When? At richmond? I'm not sure.

They tried to trial him there when training with us.. but couldn't get near the ball.
You may be right I always assumed he entered the AFL as a winger but can’t see anything on his wiki. Apparently Richmond tried him briefly as a small forward

I would hope we aren’t relying on the 188cm sub to chop out Frampton.

I don’t think pace trumps performance and I’m ambivalent to debutants in the sub role myself. Put the best 23 out there to win and currently in 2023 on the basis of performance that doesn’t include Markov.

Macrae, Allan, Wilson & Markov emergencies.

Interstingly, Fort omitted.

The Brisbane board predicted that one, apparently he’s been pretty average and the Lions don’t want to go in too tall, with us obviously picking a more mobile side out of necessity.

He was pretty good against Port.
Outstanding in fact.
Macrae not playing as we don't need another midfielder.

Me neither, but we were prepared to let him walk to Carlton until we had another LTI, so it can’t be that big a bromance. Probably more that he’s been playing ok, provides experienced depth, and has plenty of experience playing in the dewy QLD evenings as a former GC player.
