Getting into list management here (Hi Aph!), but really happy with the more recent Hewett and Young signings.
Ive never seen a player that looks more uncertain than Young.

Sometimes plays great in patches and you think wow..how did he mark that but on the otherhand he does things that are real head scratches. Young may become a good player down the track but he isnt what we need right now. We needed an experienced defender to fill the gaping hole left by LJ leaving.

Two points

We went hard at big bodies that suited football at the start of our rebuild. Stand and kicking rule come in and the game is faster and more open. Game is not about defending by keeping the ball in congestion anymore, it's about defending with leg speed.

Restricted recruiting. Trying so hard to build a culture that creates a good footy club. Not picking players with certain personalities, we've missed a lot of talent, match winning talent we lack. Catch 22.

Our extreme lack of leg speed is a worry. The game has gone past where we were aiming with our list build. Austin is righting some wrongs picking some quick players but we need to go a lot harder at it.

Bit of a list cleanout is needed and some speed and intensity coming in will be good for us. Some players with a bit of personality and competitiveness will go well for us too. You need them, regardless of what problems they have had in their lives.

His marking is his strength, but there isnt much after that. He is quite soft, low intensity in most things he does and very indesisive with his kicking

He is still our 2nd best KPD but would like to get alot more out of him in most facets of his game.

If the tall durdin could get on the field Id sooner play him in defence and wouldn't mind seeing young with forward group.

He's huge and fairly mobile, so should be developed into an elite stopper. He lacks lower body strength still which is what needs to improve to free up Weiters from taking the main man.

Our defence will look much better IMO if we can free up Weiters to play the Moore interceptor role. He's the best reader of the play, can beat his man when he needs to and a very good kick and decision maker for a KPP.

Young would also look better if we simplify the game for him. Tell him to look for a receiver to handball to nearby, otherwise kick long down the line. He can't execute the possession game. Better yet, stop trying to get involved in chains. Stick to your man.

4 years for what price? I assume a pretty reasonable price as what I'm hoping will be more a back up ruckman from 25. A lot of AFL clubs will be seeking a reasonable mature number 2 back up and I think in this case we know people will be sniffing and we've shored him up to ensure whether that be TDK or another young ruck(s) we have are not fully thrown to the wolves for full games/seasons till ready.

2 out of 3 are best 22 and are in their 2nd and 3rd season and they are two second round picks, pretty solid outcome if you ask me.

To be fair, they are best 22 because we have no depth in the position. I'm not sure either are playing like AFL quality small forwards just yet.

Is it wishful thinking that Pitto can improve a bit more? Take a few more marks? Become at least half a decent option when pushing forward? Maybe some growth there.

4 does seem long, but if he's on less money because of it then I'm not distraught about it

Richmond should have traded Dusty back in 2016 when he was being found out for his defensive ability and transition running too!

We lack the Lambert's.

But Cripps isn’t Dusty. I think part of his problem is that he either thinks he is or thinks he needs to be. We need him to play within his limitations like Mitchell does. On Sunday he burnt 2 runners he could have given a simple handball off to which would have propelled us forward, but instead he kicked horrifically under pressure to a contest. Also if I see him hold up play after a mark feigning a handball in an attempt to try and milk a 50 metre penalty instead of trying to move the ball on quickly to the benefit of the team I think I will spew.

I thought it was fantastic Voss sprayed him publicly on the bench on Sunday. Some of his actions in that first half were selfish and detrimental to the team cause. The problem with Cripps is we have seen this all before. He gave up on Bolton famously in that Essendon game in 2019 and then again with Teague over the course of 2021. I haven’t worked out if it’s that he can’t handle the heat or if he has overinflated confidence in his ability, probably a bit of both. Either way he needs to change his approach because for all his heroics he hasn’t got us very far and hasn’t even been tested in the hardest environment being finals.

After last year it’s hard to believe how much Cripps has regressed so much so that to me Cripps might more be our Deledio rather than Dusty and it might be time to move him on. I do think the players feel intimidated by his presence especially when he feels he needs to try to take over for us to win. I can’t believe I’m even suggesting this but at his age and the position he plays he is far more expendable than a key position player in their prime.

I guess there is a dearth of quality rucks on the market so we've secured our insurance policy.

He is what he is though. He's not going to find another gear from here at 26 years of age.

Pitto's reaction at being offered 4 years.

With Weiters not pulling his weight down back most of the pressure is back on Young. I think he's doing ok with little support.

That's what I would assume - sort of a 2 year contract spread over 4 years.

Maybe the start of trying to clean up the TPP ??

Just like it was so nuclear when Ryan Griffen left the dogs at the end of 2014 and they won a premiership 2 years later.
Not comparable.

Griffen left the Dogs because he (and Cooney) had a major falling out with the coach.

As far as I know that hasn’t happened with Voss, Cripps and other senior players.

Any other examples? And if not, don’t you wonder why?

No doubt weiters poor form or lack of communication or whatever it is would also be having an impact but Im more concerned at the punching the ball when he could mark, and trying to mark when he should punch...and when he has the ball in hand he sometimes looks very indecisive about what to do next.

Could also be something about instructions on how to move ball out of our defence.....maybe he doesn't get it or its not being communicated to him effectively or others around him are not following game plan which causes some confusion for him and as a result he slows down to make sense of the situation.
