What: Carlton vs *
When: June 11th 7:15pm
Where: MCG
Why: To get our season back on track!

Last time they met: CARL 12.8 (80) def * 7.12 (54). Harry boots 3 in a scrappy event that ruins their 150th year celebrations

At the start of the year, we would've all been licking our lips at this game. Haha, * are going to go another year without winning a final, we all thought. Stringer's faaaat, we all... never mind. How things have changed though since the beginning of the year, * looks like they're going to make the finals whereas we are steadily dropping like Bugs Bunny in a cloud of myxomatosis. It is hard to pin a single cause to all this mess, or if it's a combination of gameplan, lack of proper training, infighting, poor tactical nous, poor footy IQ or all of the above. Regardless, 5 losses in a row and the inability to kick accurately for goal has dampened everyone's confidence to the point being too frightened to make a mistake. This has made the playing group go into their shells, though a lot of the time they not being played to their strengths. Contrast this to *, with Brad Scott leading them, they look fresh and dangerous.

They're fresh, dangerous and sharp.

The players to watch out for

Sadly, there isn't much for the Carlton side as only a few players have actually been in decent form this year (sadly Newman who's been solid most of the year is injured). Cerra has been perhaps our most consistent player as well as Charlie Curnow, who is still in the Coleman hunt. But apart from that, our players have either been static or have regressed from last year, which includes our captain, Cripps. Step up, mon capitaine, we need you more than ever!

From the *, the M&Ms - Merrett and Martin, are both having an excellent season, will cause a lot of headaches for our turtle-like midfield and will very likely run off Cripps. And of course, we will need to mention Ridley because of the immense rebounds they will get thanks to how Carlton transitions into F50.

What Carlton need to do to win

The KISS principle should apply here, though the players do tend to overthink things and as a result, turn the ball over. Throw out any convoluted gameplan and play to our strengths, rather than stick to our insecurities. Effort is what is needed most, frantic chasing and tackles that actually stick - none of this corralling rubbish. The rest will flow naturally, giving forwards time to set up before the opposition floods the F50 again. There's gotta be less time-wasting and more quick-thinking if we want the twin towers to kick a bag, like we saw them do last year. Also: goal-kicking practice. Hell, kicking practice in general. We are the worst transition side inside 50, using 90's style tactics to bomb long to a group of 3 defenders. Curnow and McKay aren't Wayne Carey, but they are fast off the mark, so this should be utilised as much as possible. Thankfully, Harry kicked 3 last match, a welcome return to goal kicking. The mids need to work as a team again, and yes, I am looking at you Mr Cripps! Plan your spread and block for each other... do not play the hero!

Continue kicking goals, Mmmmkay

Prediction: Carlton by 1 point. * are not of Collingwood, Melbourne or Brisbane's quality, despite playing on low confidence and with a gameplan that doesn't suit us, they weren't spankings. Clean up the inaccuracy, and we're within a shot here. Channel the ESC (effort, spirit confidence)...no, no, I don't mean close your browsers or your streams! It most likely won't be as bad as you think it'll be. Whether that means it'll be better or worse than your expectations, remains to be seen! Go Blues!

OUT: Cottrell, Fisher, Motlop (rest)
IN: Binns, Hewett

FB: Cincotta Young McGovern
HB: Docherty Weitering Saad
C: Acres Cerra Walsh
HF: Dow C.Curnow O'Brien
FF: Silvagni McKay Owies

R: TDK Cripps Hewett

Int: Kennedy, Boyd, Binns, Kemp

EMG: Mirkov, E.Curnow, Marchbank, Fisher

If Jack isn't right to go, swing Kemp forward and bring in Marchbank or Fisher, Fogarty the next emergency.

Walsh to wing, please. O'Brien to half-forward to have less defensive responsibilities and more I50 chances. Let's not use SOS as a 2nd ruck, and stick with the combinations we unleashed after he went off, with him getting time in an on-ball rotation spelling Dow and Kennedy.

Knowing our luck though O'Brien and Silvagni are probably out until after the bye.

It's like we are bringing in a new player every week.

For our next game, we've recruited Mason Redman. He'll fit in our game plan nicely.

Go get 'em Red Dog.

I’d just swap binns for O’Brien.
If sos is out, not sure who to replace him with
Up forward, the answers are already in the team in Kemp and McGovern, you're just replacing the empty spot in the 22 (Fisher, Ed), or replacing their role (Marchbank).

Out: McGovern, Silvagni, O'Brien, Fisher, Cottrell

In: Hewett, Dow, Marchbank, SDurdin, Binns,

Obviously if healthy

B: Kemp - SDurdin - Cincotta
HB' Docherty - Weitering - Marchbank
C: Walsh - Cerra - Acres
HF: Kennedy - Young - Saad
F: McKay - CCurnow - Owies
R: DeKoning - Cripps - Hewett
IC: Dow - Boyd - Binns - Motlop

No player or players will overcome the system being forced here nor the collective confidence loss that comes with it.

Could have ins of Scarlett Judd and Buckley and we'd have some artificial short term bump until the system wins out and we regress back to scoring 45.

Been told by a few coaches some ex pro in various sports and heard this reiterated by sportsmen around the place... The Games won before you take the field. Won in preparation, practice, attitude, game plan and film study. Falls back on the framework and environment the club's setup - not even a Brownlow medalist can withstand the negative development trend and stay on top of his game in this framework. A Coleman medalist completely lost his way. Multiple AAs have been completely pulled down. These players cannot 'survive' let alone thrive in the framework they have to work in. This is deeper than gameplan.

The biggest issue is the half forward line.
None of Owies, Motlop, Fisher or SOS are good enough. We can’t really play guys like Cotts, Ed Curnow, Kennedy, Hewett and Dow out of position there either. Cunners and Martin can’t come straight back in either. The best two half forwards at the club aren’t on the list, that is Ben Ronke and Ned Cahill.

We literally have no options but to play these guys for the foreseeable future. None of them can hit the scoreboard, stick tackles or even chase their opponents. They made Salem and Rivers look like Hodge and Birchall. The week before it was the Lizard and Lloyd. and against the Dogs it was Dale, JJ and Richards. Watch next week when McGrath and Redmond shred us to pieces.

It should have been addressed at the end of last year instead Austen did dumb shit like extending Fisher 12 months before he had to through to 2025 and holding onto the pipe dream that Martin and Cunners would get their bodies right. Owies was also re-signed for two years at the end of last year and Motlop got his 2 year extension this year.

What else is it? Say more?

Just think it's no fun to turn up to work for them. Sport requires peak performance one part of that is enjoyment. Another is structure. Think both are down too much.
Yep. Like over at the pies.
They are having fun.
It's all working beautifully.
Good point.

How's this for thought? Even if we had Bailey Fritsch playing for us, we wouldn't have anyone good enough to kick it to him anyway ...
