The Eagles, who have lost a club record 11 consecutive games by an average margin of 70 points and three of their past seven games by more than 100 points, are sitting at the bottom of the ladder with just one win from 13 games with a lowly percentage of 51.5.
The side has broken a number of unwanted records this season alone, recording their biggest loss under coach Adam Simpson twice among them.
West Coast have been the talking point of the entire AFL world in recent weeks, with Kane Cornes calling them “an embarrassment to the game” and Hawthorn great Dermot Brereton saying they “aren’t an AFL team” and predicting more 100-point beltings to come.
TABTouch has the Eagles at an unbackable $1.03 favourite to finish with the most losses this season, with fellow strugglers North Melbourne and Hawthorn at $8 and $41 respectively.
Once again the Eagles’ campaign has been marred by injuries, with the club having just 26 fit players to pick from ahead of their 122-point drubbing at the hands of Adelaide last weekend – their third triple-figure defeat in seven games.
West Coast are a win and 17.4 per cent behind the Kangaroos, who they host at Optus Stadium on July 30 in what could be their best chance of a second victory this year.
Despite this, Fitzpatrick said he did not expect the side to finish on the bottom of the ladder, but could not say exactly what games West Coast would win.
“I expect to win all of them,” he said.
“I’ll be surprised if we do end up being the No.1 draft pick ... I think we’ll do better than that.
“I don’t think there’s a pass mark at the moment.
“Given what we’ve gone through, there’s nothing to say it couldn’t keep going.
“What I’m observing over the last two years is that you get to a certain number of injuries and it’s very hard to get that number down because people get injured every week. Or they get ill or something else happens.”
Fitzpatrick again backed the underfire coach Adam Simpson and said he expected him to remain coach for at least the rest of his contract, which expires at the end of the 2025 season.
“It’s nice that people are concerned when they look at him and think that he’s looking worried and concerned,” Fitzpatrick said.
“We see him most days of the week and he’s really positive and really up to the challenge that’s ahead.”
There have been calls for change from experts and fans to try to resurrect the powerhouse club who have won just three of their past 39 games.
Fitzpatrick said it was too early to make or predict change at the club to address the dismal on-field results.
“It’s certainly far too early at this stage of the season and I don’t think it’s fair either to comment on it halfway through the season,” he said.
“We’ll look to add people to assist Adam. But I couldn’t tell you today whether it will be drastic or not drastic, or whether the changes will be just sort of here and there.
“We’ll get to the end of the season and we’ll have a very close look at it.”

Actually agree with him about that point. Just look at the ladder right now, the top team was 11th last year, the 2nd team was 17th two years ago. The 10th, 14th and 15th teams from last year are all in the 8. And both last years grand finalists look like missing the 8.
Get things right off field and things can change very quickly. Where I disagree is thinking that things will just turn with no changes

Did have a look around to see if he’d done a radio interview somewhere that Woodcock has then done a story about- he has form in that area. Couldn’t find one though
I certainly wouldn’t be granting anymore interviews with a paper that does this to you afterwards
I don’t think he’s suggesting no changes will be made though - only that he doesn’t think any should be made mid season nor did he commit to what they might be which is perfectly reasonable

My main issue with the interview is why did he even think he needed to do one?
It was a pointless interview that was done for no purpose. Literally provided no information other than a "we wont win the spoon" that just makes him look stupid and if we do win the spoon (which is likely) he then looks naive and stupid.
