It's not just Dermie. You hear a fair few of them say things like - we know Collingwood will take the game on; they only know one way (said as a compliment). Meanwhile we're in territory mode, where we are looking for spot kicks and handballs a bit further forward along the boundary line - and if they're not there it's a kick down the line to a pack.
I’ve found it’s generally the Fox commentators, but kudos to them for trying at least because focusing on it like us can only really be done internally. The 7 commentary box is more preoccupied with barracking for the contest which is much more irritating.

Cripps has been terrible this year
His form over his last 4 games has literally been one of the reasons for their turnaround in form. In the last 4 games has been been BOG twice, names 2nd back once and in the best the other. He is a superstar and a massive loss if he is out.

Is Cripps out for sure?If he is,it’s really hard to see us losing.Something would have to go terribly wrong for us to lose this game.

Really odd take from Derm. I feel like sr36 nailed it with the ebb and flow of how the majority of our games go. I’d say we’ve been full throttle across a full match maybe 4 or 5 times this year. I think Port were one of the teams to push us to our limit.
This is clear to anyone that watches us. Doubt Derm does apart from the few games he's assigned. David King has been on about our differing levels during a game all year.

Maybe he just sees the fact that we sometimes (less than last year) have to go hard in the last to pull off a win. This didn't drain us last year, we still went up a level in finals.

The team closest to us last season, having to push hard to win games, is Port. Even just looking at percentages is enough to determine that. Don't think Derm takes his commenting role all that seriously.

The concern around our form is rarely playing four quarters and often giving up a run. The question will be whether we can tighten this up before and in finals and play more consistently. We did it last year, so there is some reason to believe.

Carlton are "flying" after a rare 5 consecutive 50+ point wins.

Was handed to them on a platter given they played 4 of the current bottom 5 and a side that had 7 changes.

Regardless they are dangerous and have momentum.

Let's hope the boys go out and bring them back to earth. Preferably with a comfortable margain rather than another thriller.

Feeling like a 25+ Disposal, 2+ goal night for JDG is in store.

True. We are number 1 for using the corridor, we're also top 5 for using the boundary. The fact that we have alternative game modes is one of our strongest attributes.

I’m hoping he plays!

Because how can we possibly be sure we’re any good unless we beat… checks notes… Carlton?

I’d rather the win and couldn’t give a shit how it happens, so long as our boys get through healthy.

No one purposely plays shite football for extended periods of the game. Their commitment to the gameplan wouldn’t fluctuate wildly.
It's not purposely playing poorly. It's risk/reward. When we need to, we take more risks and usually score more. If we're on top there's no need to do that, so we play more conservatively and score less, keeping the oppo at arm's length. The conservative approach, given that it's more kick, mark also helps to conserve energy, so it has dual benefits.

Given we couldn't turn 2010/11 into a dynasty, I'll never talk about dynasties. Let's just win one flag then worry about the rest.

But in saying that, I don't think we're as reliant on Pendlebury, Howe & Sidebottom this year as we were last year, and they can all go around again. The next batch - Elliott, Mihocek, Mitchell & Crisp - all still have a few good years left, I reckon.
I don't think our current squad is setup for a dynasty, but we do have enough young players to start building up to one. It's why even if we win the flag this year, I feel we should concentrate on adding youth not topping up with veterans. Nick's a special player, need to be looking for sustained success as he develops and enters his prime.

We'll certainly have money to spend as the older players retire or sign smaller contracts. Transitioning to a younger and stronger team is definitely possible.
