Per very good authority (as in, primary source), the whole strictly-Bevo discontent from players is overblown. Of course it's there to an extent, but the footballing program as a whole is what needs to be overhauled. Remember, Bevo has a poor relationship with the media as a whole.
Per similarly good authority, the Bevo discontent is very real but mainly outside the core group of guys.

Not a fan of getting Smith. Absolutely butchers the footy. Would want to play as inside mid as well and i don't see a position for him there with Frenchie also needing to get in there. Plus the Dogs would want top dollar for him

I am not his biggest fan as I agree he can butcher it big time.

As a permanent HF flanker I think he fills a massive hole for us but he wants to play midfield.

Who moves out to accomodate him in the midfield?

Ward and Mackenzie will also both need minutes.

Bevo has destroyed the dogs, played smith out of position all year and dropped him, if smith nominates it will get done or everyone at the dogs will feel like a prisoner, just like any workplace when you don’t want to be their and are forced to stay.

Our future first and their second round pick we have will be enough to get it done, maybe even a player in return without the second round pick, but only if he nominates us.

Smith is a perfect player in sams system and our environment is strong, he will work his ass off to be the best in the league, seriously hope it pans out - a team of hawks heading to finals is a really new look hawthorn, all die hards all bleed for finals

Last player I would want as a HF flanker delivering the ball into 50

I like Bailey Smith but he's not the type of player you give up big collateral for IMO. Great accumulator but an absolute butcher of the ball, especially for someone predominantly on the outside. Haven't seen him able to hit the scoreboard with much regularity either.

Don't see him as enough of a point of difference to justify the cost.
correct he does butcher it

All the posts about what Dogs "would want" are doing my head in! Who cares what they want, worry about Smith nominating us and leave the rest to MM!

No point trying to chase anyone if you're just going to worry about what other clubs want. Real can't win, don't try attitude.

Don't want to do this to myself. Bailey Smith would be my absolute dream signing.
Unreal player. That final he kicked 4 in was mesmerising.

Has some issues, but has the potential to be one of the 5 best players in the comp, and I KNOW Sam would love to work with him.
Not having a go or anything, but just a note on him having some issues.

He is and has always been an exemplary human. Never had any desire for gear and piss - but some people forget how quickly and severely he became famous and how he became famous. His sole indiscretion was really just a lapse, and it ended up leading to him pulling his head in really quick.

His form in the last couple of seasons has a lot to do with the Bevo's coaching which has slowly become shambolic. Eye rollers please turn your attention to Dunkley trade request, Macrae suddenly not being able to find the ball, Ryan Gardner; and my personal favourite - a thought experiment where you try to picture in your head the following players, and recall what they do on the football field: Robbie McComb, Dominic Bedendo, Anthony Scott, Riley Garcia

Basically Bailey Smith has never done anything wrong in his life and in my mind he's already a Hawk

I definitely agree with the sentiments of those here saying just a F1. Smith has plenty of talent, but comes with a lot of baggage and risk both on and off the field.

Huge upside of he turns it around. I just don’t think we are in a position to gamble with paying overs for him.

I completely agree with you mate, I made mention of this a few weeks ago.

In his draft year, he mentioned numerous times that he had no interest in drinking/partying, just wanted to be the best possible human and footballer he possibly could.

Money and fame do weird shit to people, and people need to remember that mistakes don’t define someone.

I’ve struggled with mental health issues majority of my teen and adult life, and I respect Baz for being so open and honest with his struggles. Not easy to do, especially when you have so much on the line.

He has tremendous character, and it’s the main reason I want him at the club. Sam will feel the same way.

Henry, Gresham and Smith.

I like all of them as players, but I do have question marks over all of them as to why they haven't got the best out of themselves and are leaving their clubs. I have faith we'll make the right choices.

This will excite us all, we are chasing a real top liner, an A grader which I’ve been told we are confident of getting done. I was not told who it is, can only assume it’s a Ben King type. A bit of noise around here already about BK, could it be someone else?
What if?... RnL has known the whole time... And protecting their plausible deniability, could only leave a trail...

Three team trade. I don't know if this works, poke holes in it if you can.

Draft picks pre-trade:
Hawks - 3, 29, 48
Doggies - 10, 17, 36, 63, 66, 71
GWS - 6, 12, 50, 68, 73

The Trade:

Hawks
IN - Smith, Haynes, 36, 68
OUT - F1, 29

Doggies
IN - F1, 12, 29
OUT - Smith, 17, 36

GWS
IN - 17
OUT - Haynes, 12, 68

Draft picks post trade:
Hawks - 3, 36, 48, 68
Doggies - 10, 12, 29, 63, 66, 71
GWS - 6, 17

Picks 36, 48 and 68 equal 863 points to match a bid on McCabe.

Picks 29, 63, 66, and 71 equal would leave the Doggies with 874 points to match a bid on Croft.

For reference pick 16 equals 1,067 points, but with the discount it becomes 853.6 points.

At the end of the day we could end up with:
Smith
Gresham
Duursma
McCabe
Haynes

For our draft hand plus a future first.

I want every Hawthorn supporter in this thread saying that Bailey Smith comes with 'issues' attached to read this post multiple times.

From people who know people etc, this is exactly the picture I've been painted of him as well.

What you saw in the media about his off field indiscretion and subsequent apology was the most believable and sincere of any player that's ever been caught in the same position.

Even if he doesn't end up coming to us, please remember he's just a young man who is a decent kid 99% of the time.

If he is available, think we are right in the box seat. I have no inside knowledge apart from knowing any passionate hawks nuffy like Bailey was during that era would never ever go to geelong.

Keep pick 3 and get it done. Pay the price. Game changer who has been screwed over by bevo.

Smith and Gresham come and we accelerate the trajectory by a year or two.

Question for those who understand the mechanics of trade moves better than I; would a players' relationship with a club president factor at all?
Everything factors.
That relationship could contribute to a player being happy/angry at the club etc., which could influence their decision to stay/go.
