That’s what I was thinking. Massive outbreak in the second half of the year and dare I say will be more expensive than just a slime first rounder. Same age as Rowell and Anderson so absolute priority to lock him down for the Suns.

Maybe we should target Elijah Hollands from Gold Coast instead, as he more likely to leave then stay.

I have been a fan of his performances for the past 12-24 months at AFL / VFL level and could fill Will’s role in the side until he comes back as that taller hybrid mid-forward in the mould of Rayner and Bailey, if Dev does decide to go back home to WA at the end of the year (would prefer Dev to stay though).

Bit of an old article but chances of finding a 100 game player from pick 30 onwards drops to like 33%. if we built additional demographics relevant to Adams/Joyce like key defender, mature body, strong build to be able to play on gorilla forwards etc - I believe the percentage will go down even further.

As a comparison there was lot of hype on Harry Arnold who got picked up in MSD by Swans. Swans have had a crippling key defender injury list but for whatever reason Harry hasn't managed to crack the first 22 over the last 12 rounds even when they had a clear need at various stages over this period. I believe the Key Defender market is pretty thin and anyone we pick up fresh off the street could still struggle to fit in.

Putting all these factors in table, I'd prefer to hang on to Joyce who appears durable, no major injury concerns and does a job when we call him in. He would've built some good relationships within the team at present. He can be retained fairly cheap and he'll find it easy to continue with the rest of the Irish crew like Madden and McKenna.
Yes haven’t minded him or even Buzza (top up player) in the VFL as key position depth. Neither are long term options (imo), but given the lack of potential kpps in the draft better to keep these in the club. Does anyone know Arnold’s contract status?

I was really talking about finding someone to trade in so not from the draft. Although the draft usually has some mature age players.
Just on trades last year the players below did not cost much in draft capital. You just need to find one suitable that is happy to go to the Lions.
Clubs also pick up players from various other leagues like we did with Oscar. Joyce too but he was really the last player available that could play KPD.
From memory the club gave Adams as much time as possible to make up his mind so Joyce the only suitable player left by then.

B Hill, Hunter, Acres, Bedford, Frampton, Setterfield, Gunston.
Would have loved to have landed 1 or 2 of those players. Of course, we did get Gunston

Arnold only got a 6 month contract

Wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't on an AFL list next year

Maybe someone could help me with this but whatever happened with Will Gould from Sydney.

He was meant to be Sydney’s Jack Payne so to speak and even though he has played a couple of matches, never seemed to find a solid Best 22 player from them, which is interesting given the hype in South Australia in his draft year.

If Harry Arnold did get delisted, I hope the club provides him with a VFL spot again, in hope of gaining an AFL spot in the MSD with us, if we did have room.

Kinnear Beatson hinted recently that they were planning to keep Arnold on Sydney’s list.

Drafted in 2019 for only 4 AFL games all this year. Was sub in 2 of those.
He is a defender (i believe) 191cm and around 98kg. Turns 23 in January.
I don't think he played in his first year 2020 due to injury.
A regular VFL player from 2021 onwards. Reasonable disposable numbers in the VFL.

Tom Doedee most likely destination is the Lions.

Bulldogs very keen on Kai Lohmann.

Still strong feel that Dev Robertson goes to the Eagles on a 4 year deal.

think doedee is actually a great fit for us

lester can hopefully keep up his great form next year which would mean we do not need to rush doedee into that position. get doedee cherry ripe for our team for 2025

will not cost much at all in terms of contract value you would think and he is a seriously great intercept defender - a backline of andrews, payne and doedee for 5~ years would have to be one of the best mixes in the afl

It’s a shame about dev and Kai. Think we will feel their loss a bit in 2-3 years.

What's Jarrod Cameron up to these days?

Dev and Kai out, Parfitt and Cameron in. Ready to go again !

Parfitt has had a very average year.

That's exactly why he'll be a bargain !!

I think he'll come good in our system and fill the void of Zorko/Dev first, then Neale/McCarthy at later stages as part of rotation.

Grab him when he's in recycled bin and no one's watching :)

between de koning ostensibly being offered 800k a year by sydney, mckay fielding contract offers that would trigger band 1 compensation for north and now esava ratugolea apparently being offered 5m / 7 years by hawthorn, it seems like we really lucked out in payne coming on when he did. clubs massively overpaying for key position players even if theyre spuds if the journalists figures are correct

Slow and lacks athleticism. Had a booming kick.

Fantastic speech from Marcus Adams... and Fages topped it off beautifully. :sadv1:

I agree, it would be a shame to lose either or both of them.
What if they do go? What are they worth? Both were high draft picks, around the 20 mark in their draft year.
Could Brisbane be justified in requiring picks 17 from the Dogs, and 19 from the Eagles, with maybe a bit of juggling of later picks?
If Brisbane is a realistic chance of l getting another solid mid with one of Parfitt, Flanders, Bailey Smith or the likes, they will need some draft pick options.

We will get very little back. I was hoping we wouldn’t get stiffed on dev because he is a best 23 player win a top 2 side with lots of upside, but we probably will.

Considerations will be how we make this work for points for next year. Whether we take picks this year or try and roll into next year for Ashcroft 2.

If they both leave a fair amount of depth goes with it, given they've been the next two up for a large part of the year & Dev has now seemingly cemented a spot in the 22, at least for the rest of the year. Hopefully we can snare a couple of role players from somewhere, if nothing else.

Pretty sure Conole said on the podcast with Twomey & Riley Beveridge earlier in the year, that we could have a little bit of list turnover this year and given Adams as well as Rich are both likely to retire, Dev & Kai could both leave and then a few other possible delistings/possible Zorko retirement, we will need to fill those spots somehow.

If Dev plays as a starting 22 player for the finals series plays well and particularly if he ends up a Premiership player he would be worth a high 2nd rounder IMO. Still think Dev is a chance to stay if we can get reasonably close to the Eagles offer.

Kai we would be getting a pick in the mid 30s at the absolute best.
