Hayden could be a full time forward and push Amartey out of the side.

This trade puts pressure on for positions as well.
As good as McLean has been as a second ruck, ladhams would be a better second ruck option with McLean playing high forward filling that Sam Reid role more so.

When in form, which has been up and down since his big deal was signed, and not just around injuries. And for maybe 2-3 years.

I see Grundy as a definite improvement on the alternatives we currently have, but he won't be challenging for AA selection like he used to.

I'd prefer we keep both Ladhams and McAndrew as well, otherwise we face the same potential issues if Grundy goes down or regresses further with age. No experienced backup and no long term solution. If we lose one of them then we would need to hit up a mature ager in the rookie draft. I'm also bringing in May regardless (not turning down a rare and likely rookie pick academy ruck that was decent backup in a dominant Allies side).
Good call all round.

We need the fitness and medical team to make Melican our number one priority this off-season to give him every chance to play a full season next year. Hoping Arnold and Francis improve significantly to keep our defensive depth strong as I feel Essendon have a war chest to offer McKay that we would be foolish to match.

It gives these young rucks some time. Rucks mature when they are 30, aside from the elites. It bides us time to work out what happens after Brodie. However what this does is it gives us a crack while Parker, Rampe and a few others are nearing the end

Wow, so after 8 years of ignominy at North, he decides to escape to ESSENDON 😱
I'm thinking being part of something greater is not high on his list of must haves.

Totally agree, another pre-season with us and I think we will see a very different Francis to the one we saw this year.

Still would have liked a 2mt+ monster for the backline though
Mackay wasn’t on my list, but to pick the Bombers ahead of staying at Norf is a worrying development for his decision making abilities.

I think we OK without Mackay, Let’s not forget we have Arnold as a developing back as well as Francis. I suspect we go to the draft for a developing KPD. Perhaps Reid if he gets on the Park fills the role going into 2024.

I'm hoping the Dees have their eye on Jordon Sweet from the Dogs. Who has yet to put pen to paper, this is why I'm thinking our first will have to go to the Dees - who can then give something to the Dogs who will then bundle it up to get pick 4.

You heard it here first:winkv1:
I want Sweet

Don't agree, if we get Grundy it might be the thing Pete needs. We sell Ladhams we'd need TWO rucks not 1, that's highly risky.
A couple of things
1) This is just my opinion but Ladhams is an idiot. Does stupid things, never learns his lesson. He's had so many chances, both at Port and with us and still behaves like a toddler. He is just better off gone. He has played a few good games but more crap ones, especially in the VFL, which just shows how petulant he is. And at 26, he is no longer in the category of someone who is young and stupid. He's just stupid.
2) We carried 4 rucks this year with 3 forward / rucks. When everyone was fit, it severely limited opportunities for the non AFL ruck. We had the ludicrous situation of playing all 4 rucks in the VFL whilst Mclean was our number one. It had a few negative effects for our squad as a whole. It didn't give our rucks coming back from injury a decent hitout, in particular Hickey who took a few games to get up to fitness. It also had the effect of limiting ruck time for Stretch and especially Owen who really had little chance to show what he could do in thr ruck. Finally, it unbalanced our VFL team. At times we had Owen in defence, Hickey and Ladhams forward and Stretch rucking. This ludicrous setup stymies the development and opportunities for our players in reserves.

We only need 3 rucks, 2 AFL ready (Grundy and Stretch) one developing (Owen or May) backed up by Mclean, Amartey, Buller and maybe Reid.

But having said all this, I'm sure Ladhams will stay. No one else would want such a loose cannon. And as always, happy to be proven wrong too - the penny might finally drop for him.

Tradies podcast (Sam McClure and Mitch Cleary):

James Harmes - Richmond, Carlton, Sydney, Essendon "have enquired about him through his management" (McClure)

Ben McKay - possibly 48-72 hours away from finding out; North waiting for offers that come in to ensure Band 1 compo pick (Cleary), Sam raised their "Ben and Harry" podcast, and thinks they may drop news this way...

Honestly think North prefer the draft pick (Don't blame them).

But rate North's list moving forward.

I reckon 4 proper rucks is ideal.
An AFL first ruck Grundy.
An AFL first ruck back up Ladhams OR McAndrew who might be playing as a forward/ruck in AFL (Ladhams) or as first ruck in VFL (Ladhams and/or McAndrew).
A project ruck who will play limited minutes in VFL as a forward or back and back up ruck if there is an injury.
You might be able to get away with 3 if they stay healthy but you will recall that we started rucking McLean because both Hick and Ladhams were injured and obviously felt McAndrew wasn't ready.
Forward/rucks are another discussion.

Harmes would fit much better at Richmond.

Is Stretch ready to ruck full time, for a large part of the season if Grundy went down? I don't think we can be confident of that, hence why we need Ladhams or some other mature ager brought in (as well as May).
