We've seem how a ruckman like Hickey has improved Sydney. I believe Grundy is Hickey like on his down days so he will be immense for Sydney in the case he does come over. One of our biggest recruitments since Bud.

Sweet, Harmes, Jordon …. so much excitement over a bunch of fringe players that likely will remain so.

It feels like the good ol’ Mason Wood days.

Post-script: yes, yes, I know - Sweet might get better. But he’s still a VFL player.

The Grundy news has REALLY livened up this thread and there's still THREE weeks to go until the free agent trade period. Nice to see so much positivity though as we begin to see some genuine possibilities.
See you in 3 weeks , get in too much trouble on this thread , will just check the leaderboard

Assuming he stays fit, this can release McLean from those duties and we might see an increase in his goal tally next season.

The flow on effect of this could be huge.

On McKay, I don’t think we need him. Not at 800k. Melican and McCartin are rocks and if Francis can improve we’re pretty good in that department. Another defender would be nice but I’m not sure if McKay is worth it at that price. I’ve said this for a while, not just because he might not choose us.

The other option if we don’t secure a KPD/McKay, albeit slightly risky, is we can use Sam Reid in the role. It’s been mentioned here before, prior to 2022, Reid was training in defence.

Especially with the emergence of McLean, there may not be the strong need for Reid forward, but potentially as a key back.

Agree on McCartin and similar with Reid for Melican, let’s hope their bodies hold up next year.

Swans talking about Harmes gives the 1st pick for Grundy rumours credibility.

Would you give up our 1st for Harmes and Grundy? Probably
I'm not sure I'd give up anything for Harmes at all. I don't see what he would add to our list.

That could be possible. I do remember Reid in an interview last year saying he was competing with Paddy for that role in defence, but Paddy obviously took that spot.

There is a cracker post on the Port board are in terms it was "We would get Grundy, McKay & Ratugolea and keep our first pick and that we be a good trade period."

Mine's "get Grundy, McKay and draft O'Sullivan."

Then I'll feel like a real winner, like the Essendon supporters do during the trade period!
