Yep, Swans quietly confident but the proviso is - IF they can get a deal done with Melbourne

Brodie Grundy was won over by a Sydney pitch about his lifestyle and work-life balance in the Harbour City compared to a football-heavy presentation from Port Adelaide.
Just as Franklin was lured north by the idea of escaping the footy bubble – and to be closer to partner Jesinta – Grundy is keen on the Sydney lifestyle.

Sydney spoke to him about the ability to have a life away from football, with partner Rachel also able to move her work as a physio working in intensive care and emergency units.
He has never wanted to live and breathe footy, and after a huge two seasons of publicity heading to somewhere like Sydney is the perfect remedy.

This bit here though is our blocker: If Grundy requests a trade, who do Melbourne fall back on as a replacement given they won’t trade him unless they have a back-up ruck for Max Gawn?

They want a back-up ruck....
Grundy for Ladhams and late pick swap in their favour. Two birds, one stone

Reckon Port will be going after Sweet now that they’ve stopped the Grundy chase. Adelaide boy and they could easily promise him the number one ruck spot with Lycett presumably going, no trust in Hayes and with Visentini too young.
Port already find themselves with two players committed to going there, each requiring a pick in the 20's at best, yet their first pick is 37. Hardly figure how they expect to get Sweet as well. Particularly when the dogs have stated that they don't want to lose him.

Imo Stephens is waiting to see if we bring in other mids or likely to bring them in before committing & waiting to see what the likes of Kangas are doing. Interesting decision for him, go to the Kangas where you're likely going to play regular AFL footy in the mids but long way from challenging for finals OR stick around likely on the fringes of regular AFL footy for us but have the opportunity to play finals footy.

I think he'll lean towards the kangas move, if he can establish himself as a good AFL mid then more opportunities open up for him in the future. It's the safe & smart option imo.

Interesting. You sure its not James Harmes? He's the one I've got confirmed rumours for. Nothing on James Jordan who plays wing whereas Harmes in an inside mid which we need.
Jordan hasn't been reported as wanting to go but he is uncontacted and is a free agent. He is struggling to get a game at Melbourne other than as the sub hence he could be gettable.

Wouldn't mind James Harmes

AFL standard, works, can finish a bit of play

Got pushed out of a solid Melbourne side

Agree would be more keen on James Jordan though. Hasn’t had his chances being behind Petracca, Oliver and Viney but I feel he has a greater ceiling.

Harmes is a good solid AFL player and can also tag very well. Either would be fine but we need the depth.

Reading sack hinkley thread on port board, some of the comments regarding hinkleys pitch to grundy are hilarious. They seem to be split on wanting him/not wanting him.

Getting in Grundy, which looks very likely, will be brilliant.
Getting in McKay, which looks less likely, would be an improvement but if it doesn't happen we'll survive.
Is James Jordan better than Dylan Stephens, to whom we have offered a contract? Or would he replace Stephens if he left? Is he better than Gulden, McInerney or Campbell? If not, why do it? If he is, let's go for it.
Where does James Harmes fit? Replace Rowbottom? Turns 28 next month. Why on earth would we do that?

Same could have been said 2 years ago as well. He had interest from other clubs (likely Crows and Vic clubs), hadn't had his 2022 run of games yet either, but decided to stay and fight for a spot. Crows midfield/wing spot looked an easier earn at the time, same for Pies if they were one of the interested parties, plus other clubs like Hawks, North, Saints, Tigers.

I hope he stays. The fact we are reportedly very keen to retain should signal to him we see a possible future for him in the 22.

Looks like we are the only ones left in the Grundy negotiations. All AFL news sites are saying Port are now out. This is due to them already trading for Rad & Zirk. They didn't have much of a hand to start with, traded their future picks for the last 3 years. They were also only interested in talking footy but Grundy was more interested in work/life balance. That has been a theme of the Swans for a long time and apparently he is more interested in that.

Soon, we will be saying 'Welcome Brody Grundy' if all things go well.

I am not wrapped in McKay. I do not believe we are much of a chance anyway. He seems to be more interested in Hawks or Bombers. I think we should move on and draft a KPD. Use Lewie, Arnold, Edwards etc.

Stephens leaves, and he is gone, we need more run. Outside mids should be a priority. More speed. Cleary comes in as an inside mid. That's solved. But at the draft we need to look at KPD, outside run (speedy players who use the ball well).

We have the capacity to draft well and will get a pick for Stephens, late 20's, early 30's.

Draft crush alert. Joel Freijah for your outside run

Because it takes some heavy lifting hours to win a flag

The Age have us linked to the Demons' James Jordon - we are "monitoring his performance"...

"Melbourne premiership midfielder James Jordon’s free-agency status is making him an attractive target, with Sydney now among several clubs monitoring his performance as he comes out of contract, according to sources familiar with the issue who wished to remain anonymous.

He attended 20 centre bounces against the Brisbane Lions on Friday night and is also a good two-way runner who can play on the wing or in the middle."

As always, "Sydney declined to comment." :)

This was the first link of James Jordon to us back in July

Mentioned again in Marc McGowan in Tuesday’s Age article
