I notice King and Steele and a few others are going under the knife for major repairs. I think any player who has been on the sidelines for extended periods, is going struggle to stay on the list. We saw how we were basically out-muscled by GWS, and to go forward we can't carry fragile bodies. Will there be more delistings?

Where did you hear the McKay news? He off to Essendon?

If they give us a pick that lands Henry that's fine.

Rekon we will end up keeping Gresh.

Hes gonna try and push for a bigger deal in the market and then come back to us on 'fair' coin. Maybe only a 2 year deal if he wants to back his form in, but I think he stays.

Jordan in as a FA
Howard for Henry
4th for Goldstein to come in as a playing coach in the VFL.

Grab a KPD from the delisting/state comps. Then draft mids, mids, mids...

We can match and trade Gresham

You can but once we've decided not to keep him, clubs usually flap their arms then resign themselves. Crouch was your classic case. That's a high risk strategy.

His agent asked us to hold off on making an offer.

Not sure it’s as Russian roulette as you believe.

We have had convos. Both parties happy to let the other clubs dictate the $$

Essendon were already struggling without a decent KP back and are losing Zerk-Thatcher their best taller back. They would be crazy not to chase McKay. He's exactly what they need.

If we decide to trade Howard, there will be multiple clubs desperate to get one so we really hold all the cards. Essendon is under pressure to play finals next year and without a KPB they'll struggle to do that. Sydney need one, several others too.

I hope they do it with gresh then.
Apparently*** and it’s come from the same guy who gave me Howard/Billings/Clark etc

Greshams agent believes he can get that type of offer - which is why he doesn’t want us putting up an offer now. The Gresham camp feel like we won’t go as high as other clubs and if we offer now, it will lower the offers he is getting/will get.

Money is a high incentive for them.

We in turn think, if this trade period plays out perfectly for us. We have multiple first round picks - which is an aim. But we have multiple picks to target the likes of the suns pick or just stock up on mid teen firsts.

Either way, all I keep hearing is that we want into this first round and we are happy to get younger and even risk going backwards next year. Because we think we will get flung forwards - way beyond this groups current capability and ceiling.

if we cut hard and it lands our way.

I’m down for this. Let’s do it properly

Sorry to rain on your parade but he would have to be a last resort - yes a big lad but based on training observations this year he is miles off it - schooled in the ruck by Marshall & Campbell at training & skill wise ordinary ( saw Goddard this year, who had obviously been working with him, frustrated he was making the same mistakes).

The lad wants to improve & is very hard on himself when he makes an error, but a long way to go. Having said that - of course I hope he makes it.
Has he beaten Caminiti in any ruck contests?

What am I missing here? Multiple clubs desperate to get a KP back. This tells me they are thin on the ground.
We have Howard and as seen v GWS no real replacement.
But we are going to trade this supposedly rare commodity without someone who can fill the void?
Are we relying on Van Es or Cordy? Please tell me this is not the case.
We were totally exposed v GWS, not just Cordy but apart from Battle, the whole backline.
This is a very high risk strategy. Howard is not great, we all know that, but with him in the backline our structure is superior to when he is not.

We're going for Tomlinson I believe

Exactly what I was thinking.
A game plan that relies heavily on defence trading away one of the few KPDs in the competition?
Makes no sense at all.

Not sure the majority of supporters will cop going backwards after they've tasted finals again, it would need to be a very good sell.
5 minutes of Sunshine then back to the sombre bottom eight, with some vague promise that one day in some fuzzy future we will challenge.
Holy hell

Ah, yeah... that's what I'm missing over here. Would love to get down to a training the next time i'm in Australia. All I have to go on is Bachelor's reviews, and he mentions that Heath is a work in progress...but that he's progressing in an upward trajectory.
He seems to get in amongst the goals a bit which is good, and can take a grab by all accounts. It's a start.
But yeah...might not be much of a ruckman just yet though.
Look, this is just a very small observation of Heath, and one that I had very soon after his selection. So he was very young and raw.
In that context: he had the ball in a pack, bent over and in that split second before being tackled, he leaned into the tackle with his shoulder.
I saw that and immediately knew that he had a sense of the game.
Whether he has the ability to play, I have now seen enough to say yes.
Good mark, can kick and kick goals, plays a little like Roma in that he will follow up his ruck work with tackles.
The question remains at what level.
That’s the essence of the current debate.

Is that what happened in Daniher’s case? Effectively manipulating the compensation? If so, that’s really frustrating. This mechanism needs to be looked at.
It's exactly what happened, yep, the AFL looked at it and let it through - so for clubs that are lower down I thinj it's an easy way for the AFL to give a leg up without it looking like they're actively giving a leg up

We must have someone cheap lined up or else it makes no sense.

Last week wasn’t the first time Cordy has been exposed. There was a reason why he wasn’t able to hold a spot in a bulldogs side desperate for key defenders
