Billings and Coffield could both play excellent footy for years, it's a shame we're set on turning the list over for the sake of 'sprucing the joint up a bit'.

Though are we?

I think everyone on this forum has known for years that our biggest problem (though there are other problems too) has been our midfield is not good enough. At least improving it seems to be a focus of our "New & Improved" (or at least we hope it will be) List Management Strategy.

We currently have more small forwards and HBFs than we need, so swapping them out for inside and outside mids (I am include wing) makes sense to me. For 2024 we still have Higgins, Butler and Hotton, plus Owens and Phillipou who can rotate through HF.

While Gresh played most games this year if we have Shiel, Dow and Henry available he may not of in 2024.
Also I cannot see Coffield displacing any of Sinclair, Nas, Wilkie or Battle. Coffield is also not suited to play on opposition small fiorwards.

Hopefully the players we draft will also reflect some midfield talent. I think we need to churn through some midfield prospects till we find some good ones.

A player like Shiel provides some immediate support to give the youngsters time to develop and take over.

Time will tell I guess, but with footskills being more important every year it seems like a counter-intuitive recruitment drive to me unless we are really able to ramp up our draft picks in the process.

Who laughs when cricketers get hit in the box? That's an actual potential injury. Mouthing off saying something stupid about hoping someone gets a serious injury doesn't mean anyone other than a psychopath wants it to actually happen. It's just a lack of social skills I think

People say some absolute shit about our actual players and no-one on here gets all pissy about it, if someone said it about Gresham or Billings the same people would by hitting the likes. People say terrible shit about people like Lobb and no-one gets upset. Some posters deal with the emotion of Coff leaving by bagging him in an extreme manner, some get all precious about how others post about him.

I don't get why this comment has all of a sudden inspired a wave of sympathy towards how people talk about players.

Footskills is my Number Two Biggest Problem at the Saints. Or rather Ball Use which is kicking, handball and smart decisions.
Better ball use though is also the result of your team mates getting into the right positions so that good decisions can be made.

We have had many players who just hit up the nearest St Kilda Jumper rather than actually getting the ball to advantage. This is where Sinclair, and now Nas Shines.

Billings I see as a good ball user. Coffield not so much.

I think you can get some guide on the players more likely to be traded based on their selection when available this year under Lyon.
Bytel couldn't get a regular gig and was cut.
Billings despite being available in the second half of the season wasn't selected.
Coffield had enough games at Sandy late in the year to be given a game but was overlooked.
Jones came pretty well straight back in once fit.
Clark seemed like a lock and was regularly mentioned in Lyon's pressers.
Howard was a lock until injured and Lyon suggested they erred by not picking him in the final.
McKenzie wasn't sighted so who knows there?
Gresh is obviously a different category being a RFA. Looks like he's gone. It would surprise everyone now if he stayed.
So based on all that you'd think it would be Gresh, Billings, Coffield and maybe McKenzie to depart.
With the season Greh had this year, he was gifted a tonne of games and should have been dropped and honestly I think he got in the because we had to play someone and you can only go into the replies so far.

The game where he was the sub and came on, he played well and did OK for the rest of the season - not amazing, not $700k player, he did OK.

DMac will go if he has a better offer, if we're not putting decent offers to the like of Coff, then we're not doing it for Dmac, or anyone who's pernially injured.

Its not just the trade and draft period its the entire season. Hey we all get it you/we want sucess but its St Kilda we follow, no amount of hours spent procrastinating on this site is going to change that.

Are you old enough to remember Glum out of Gullivers Travels he constantly sprouted - It will never work!” “We're never gonna make it!” “You will never do it!” "We're doomed!" "Oh no not again!"

Just chill and enjoy the ride champ! :D:stkilda::D

Or I could could just not really give a shit about what you post and keeping doing exactly as I want to. I'm not stopping you circle jerking about our great successes. At least you're more Ned Flanders unlike your faux outrage mate.

Tbh, I hope we don’t see it that way with Shiel and it’s all about the pick, or opportunistic. That’s what we have experienced guys like Crouch, Ross, Steele, Hill, Wood in and around the midfield.
