I'm ok with the trading one of 2 or 3 and another pick for 1 provided we use 1 to bid on Walter and then grab Reid. We could do with not having the media frenzy of having the number 1 pick player.

Like flies to s**t it was last year.

Wow, That would be a huge payment!

Still a bit to play out re draft picks but at this stage we will be looking at a smaller, more skilled and more mobile forward structure. Clarko has always favoured a more dynamic forward line and he will be looking to implement that in 2024.

At this stage - and assuming we keep picks 2 and 3 and hence take Duursma - I think we are looking at

HF: Simpkin Zurhaar Ford
F: Duursma Larkey Thomas

Sheezal will start in the midfield - there will be no starvation corner on a flank for him.

There will be no '7th forward' either as both Powell and WhiPhi will be running through there and on ball from a starting bench position.

What will be worth watching is whether we are able to pick up Caddy around the pick 8 mark - if we can he will come into immediate consideration for a forward spot.

I expect George to work his way into calculations by Round 6-8 - it may take him longer and he won't be rushed.

As for Sleevo, PC, CT, CCJ, Harvey, Mahoney, Tucker, Drury, Hansen - they are all starting a fair way back and will need to work hard in the preseason and at VFL level to get into consideration for a forward role in the ones.

I like PC the best out of that group - and I think he will get a lot of games in the ones - but he will need to perform well at VFL level first.
I don't disagree with the idea of going smaller, especially if we have Zurhaar, George, Ford etc who are good marking targets.

As for Curtis, I don't see him needing to prove himself in the VFL. He was pretty good in the second half of the year, after getting dropped.

He averaged 11 disp, 1 goal, 3.5 tackles, 1 goal assist, in the second half of the year.

My other question - will this forward line generate enough pressure to keep the ball locked in our forward half?
I think that could be an issue. I wonder if Simpkin can play that sort of role. Basically a good version of what Turner did the last couple of seasons.

Bloke comes across as a bit of a sook who didn’t like how it turned out, so now wants to take his bat and ball and go home. Also didn’t want to stick around and guide the Hawks through the rebuild after what they had given him as a club.

Not ticking a lot of boxes when it comes to his character. The fact that Brisbane were shocked by the request, says a fair bit.

The funny thing that people often forget (& has yet to be mentioned on this thread) is: Gunston didn't begin his AFL career at the Hawks! His exit from the Crows wasn't exactly smooth & Adelaide felt extremely aggrieved. In fact, while it obviously had happened before, a case could be made that Gunston was the first of the more modern style of "going home". The Crows were super pi$$Ed at the time as they felt they had little control over a very wanted player.

Agree re PC - he was good in H2 - but this is what happens when greater depth is brought into the club - competition for spots heats up and players who expected to be 'best 22' find themselves in the 23-28 territory.

Lost their "best first year player" award winner, know that feel, bro.

True leadership .....however what were the rest of the actual leadership group doing and why is it left to a rookie to have set standards?
Very surprised BMac didn't give himself an uppercut.

But yes, I think Barlow would do well to focus on developing our leadership capacity, or at least help the group realise what it is, and who has it, and who doesn't.

Star in the lesser leagues - stats drop off comparing Coates to U18's. Will be a big slider draft night. Wouldn't be surprised if he slipped back to the late teens.
That would be great, then we could pick him up for cheap and automatically fixes the need to a forward pocket player - all the so called talent experts have rated him top 5-10, some at 3 at one stage but hey if slips that far he's a slider or a steal;)

Jy should not be captain.

Good, but not great in the middle.

Does not lead by example, and acts like a hitman.

You can be captain or enforcer, but not both.
What's Nick Maxwell doing these days? North should reach out to him to have regular catch ups with Jy. Jy is the hardest trainer at the club and sets the standard. He also bleeds blue and white and speaks well, so from a leadership potential he's got all the pieces there, he just needs things to click in terms of bringing the boys along with him. Maxwell was a master at that. Alternatively, wonder if Clarko can reach out to his old mate Cam Smith and get him down? Jy hasn't had the greatest leaders to draw on in his time at North and with the right mentors in place, I can see him being excellent until a Will Phillips or LDU or even Sheezel is ready to step up.

McKay regressed badly considering his 2021 form was just as good as any defender. Every big forward hated what was coming.

This year, Mason Cox beat him in a marking contest that he had advantageous positioning to kill. That's... apparently worth 800k now LOL

Jy's really gotten in some peoples' hair hasn't he. Exemplary leader aside from the odd bout of white line fever, but he somehow needs to do so much more to earn peoples' respect. Even the white line fever is, I think, a good quality in a captain. Yes, it needs to be reined in at moments, but it means he has the fire in the belly necessary for any effective captain. A few stern words from Clarko once or twice more, and I think he'll remove that tendency from his game. He also has the fitness, the grit, and the articulacy. Larkey over Jy is neither here nor there, even though I personally think he has more body language issues than Jy. But suggesting LDU is bizarre. His only drawcard is that he's a better player. Which is not a captaincy prerequisite in any sane coach's book

Agree curtis worked into the year well, just needs to fix his tank a little this off season.
Also dropped alot of marks he probably should have taken. But he's a best 22 lock for me

Well that will make for boring trade radio, look for the boys on there to start making s**t up to fill in the hours of missed speculation…!

I mean making more s**t up 🤪

Still plenty of other trades out there for them to ramble on about for next 3 days.... not sure what their cliff hanger will be though
