Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Keys you may like to sticky this post & move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread if you have one.

Waterman had a mini breakout at the beginning of last season with no JK. He is an AFL-calibre forward. Let him play forward at AFL level. Sure, trying to fit him, Maric, Culley, Williams x 2 and Reid alongside Allen and Darling will get a little crowded but there will come a time where we will have to give someone up to make another position better.
Waterman’s breakout was very mini - two games - then back to his more normal - average - games. And as you mention Maric, Williams x2 and possibly Culley all competing for the third tall forward.
If JW gets regular games it means either none of those ‘kids’ are performing (helppp!) - or the MC is afraid of Muddy.

We've seen this story before with Brander. Player is good enough to play best 23, isn't quite good enough to play their natural position so we play them somewhere else. We've even done it with Waterman. On the wing, no less.

No! He’s a “nearly “ AFL calibre forward. We’ve discussed this before. If he plays 95%+ yes. But his 92% etc is not good enough.

Mmmm, not sure. Club politics re a well known WCE family? Or, not dropping a guy while sick? I can’t see the club adopting ‘a plan’ for him now - not after 84 games.
Yeah maybe this too. We would be silly not to at least attempt to find him a spot in the side though.

I don't think it is that nefarious.

We have a massive hole in our list in the 23 to 27 age bracket . Any afl quality in that age bracket should be retained .

Waterman is taller than darling and is a good lead up forward .

If darling goes down its Allen then ........... a couple of 19 years olds without waterman .

We are rebuilding and in the next 3 seasons we will shuffle our players until they fit a best team .

Waterman deserves his contract and even if he is not in the seniors he will be a valuable contributor at training and at the beagles

Surely it's time for Petch to bulk up and take the mantel of no.1 midfielder. 😬

It may actually not be as outlandish as it first seems.

Considering how trash 2023 was for West Coast, it is interesting to note that for matches where Petruccelle had more than one stoppage clearance and 40% or more of his possessions were contested, the Eagles went 1-2 with those three matches separated by just 14 points in total.

In a season of 3-20, with an average margin of 55 points in favour of the opposition, that does stick out somewhat.

84 games not enough chances to find a spot in the side for a below average everything player?

He got a charity contract and it’s all he deserves.
I mean in a different role, at least give him some flexibility so he is more likely to be useful. No point just having him sit in the WAFL all year doing the same thing hes been pretty average at his whole career

So what do you make of simmo saying in pressers multiple times we would love to give ginbey a break but we just don't have any other players available?

I don’t make much of pressers. If they actually thought they were risking close to their most valuable commodity they wouldn’t have played him.

The hamstring was just unlucky, nothing at all that can be read further into it

Like who ?

There is this wafl bloke Greg Clark who might be available

Dev I think he’s referring to.

Think you are right though. Will need 2-3 years into the young midfield group to start performing consistently. They may be good inconsistently this year.

Yes Dev was one.

Mathieson has been floated around for a couple of years and is free to a good home. A bit unsure on this guys onfield antics being a bit OTT. Reportedly a great clubman and would look after the kids in the Beagles

Clarke 26 from the Swans is another mature body ready to go coming out of an elite program.

Jackson Hately 23 another DFA that on paper fits our needs very well. Big inside mid who needs opportunity who was playing very well in the 2nds but couldnt get a crack on ball same as Crouch. And now he's back in vogue.

Not a mid but half back Trey Ruscoe has a bit of presence about him. Attacks the contest with the intensity needed. 193cm not a small lad and again coming out of an elite program.

If our reserves start playing in the national comp we will need to bring in extras and the WAFL wont be policing the cap, it will be the same as the other teams.

You have a Waterman alert, admit it.

Hately and Clarke would be good gets to play in the main team. I dont think theyre bad players, just stuck behind better players that do the same role. Clarke can do a decent tagging job too if needed

I would be a big fan of trading into draft for Darcy Wilson if the opportunity presents. Decent size, great athleticism (RMC has him elite for all of endurance, pace, agility), finds the ball and the goals, versatility to play forward, wing and potentially inside a bit. Seems perfect prototype for the modern game

No matter what the expectation is for us in 2024, if we are trading our F1 into this year’s draft, then the other team has the leverage.

If we trade F1 to GWS for Pick 7 to get Curtin, the absolute best we’ll get as well is a F2 or F3 to go with Pick 7. If the shoe was on the other foot I would expect us to demand the same.

According to the Melbourne board we won’t even get that!

100% this has to happen .

Cripps and Ryan also to the wing to get the ball moving to our forwards .

Culley may need to be that inside distributor or even look to bring in a mature big body inside mid as a rookie or SSP period

Jackson Hately was delisted from the crows for being a 1 dimensional inside mid .

We need that 1 dimension for a season or 2 just to take the pressure off the guys like ginbey and Hewett.

This guy could also be a good late national draft pick
Just mentioned mcauliffe a while back, looks like a goer
