Hopefully one of those players he's looking to model his game off is Patrick Cripps. Around the same size and looks to play a similar game already. Also a bit faster than Cripps.

Love how JC gets shat on for being slow, without any consideration for the fact he is the size of a KPF playing midfield.

Would he be left in the wake of someone like Stringer when he rolls up into the midfield? I wouldn't have thought so. He makes up for a lack of pace with other traits and I hope we persevere with him. Turned 21 a few months ago...

Can’t understate how much I want Jai to do well. Not just tomorrow but beyond as well

Seems like a genuinely good bloke who’s popular amongst the playing group and someone who is helping to build a strong culture

And as I mentioned more than once in the training thread his workrate to get back from his ACL was immense. Unbelievably hard trainer

Deserves some reward for his dedication and hard work

He's not even slow, it's just his acceleration that caused him issues as a junior, which he spent a few months working on prior to being drafted just to get faster over those first 6 metres.

He's not in Dewar territory(84kph is pretty hard to beat.... ;) ) but he's hardly a slouch.

He just looked quite flat footed in stoppages at AFL level, which unfortunately is widespread amongst many of our mids, and a big reason why we suck so much. Ginbey and Chesser are not slow either, but they tend to ball watch a bit, and a split second is all it takes to lose a clearance. Sheed is both slow and slow to get moving.

Culley like the others has only played a handful of games at the top level so plenty of time to learn the ropes.

He did when he first started, for sure. Looked to be on the move and get the ball out of tight situations in the WAFL since he's been back though.

A couple of weeks ago he even had a play where he burst out of the CBD to kick inside 50. Very Reid like.

I wonder how much of this is the established mids being backed in and the second tier mids coming in to play a role and effectively stay out of the way while the stars go to work.

We've had a huge problem developing midfield youth which may be driven for this reason and has further exacerbated the age gap between the proven talent and the kids not trusted to do anything meaningful or significant in the guts.

From time to time it's looked as though the youth just don't want to stuff it up or get in the way. Now someone like Harley comes in who doesn't care. See ball get ball, be better than me if you want me to play a role instead.. Granted he is a special talent but he has the arrogance to not just wait his turn. I hope others follow.

They don't want to get the dreaded Sheed finger point

I’m a big fan of Jai’s work, I think he’s got the chance to be a contested beast for us.

The elite player comparison I like best for his traits might be Josh P. Kennedy. He’s got the work ethic - hopefully keeps building. I think there’s plenty of talent around the clearances and tackling prowess to work with there. These types of players usually take a few years until they can monster other mids, but Jai might be on his way. I’m crossing everything

What has happened to this bloke.

7 disposals today

With all the reports of him being a hard worker, just does not seem up to it at afl level.
Looked to play Waterman's role and the ball was hardly ever down there. Only saw him mid a couple of times.

Seriously poor inclusion for him to not be replacing Yeo, that was the logical thing to do was to get him in the middle.

Apparently only attended 19% of centre bounces.

Not going to rate him too harshly if he was playing forward given the way the game panned out, but it was not a good selection if you don't play to his strengths.

Yeah why on earth would you play the guy out of the position he has been dominating in the wafl

stuck forward for most of the game

team struggled so not surprising he didn't have much of an impact

when he did have the ball he showed some class, laid a lot of good tackles too
