The rumour at the time a few years ago was he was gonna sit above/next to Kelly in an advising/mentor role.

I'm guessing maybe they see it as Kelly can handle the day-to-day grunt work and Balme is the big picture guy?
I dont mind this. Anything we can do to relieve the stress on Balme the better. Personally I think in a normal situation Kelly goes but if he is co-chair with Balme - do it

Kelly will have Balmes coffee order down pat by week 2
If and I say if - IF Kelly is smart he will suck every ounce of knowledge he can because he is currently showing zero football nous

We don't need experience we need more people that can actually execute under pressure. Don't care how many years they've played.
Adelaide - Melbourne is a one hour flight. He could do 5 days a month in Adelaide for 9 months. VC the rest.

That’s 9 work weeks a year in Radelaide.

Get it done.
it’s not just the flight. Add travel time to the airport (MEL not like ADL), getting there earlier these days……. It’s probs a half day each way effectively

look - we dropped Rob to confirm what we thought about Strachanie, who is clearly not good enough. I assume we did this Because Rob has made his desire clear about going to Vic (although he is contracted). So now we know we are in strife, can we just bring ROB back for the remainder of the season to provide some competition as the bounce / throw ins?
hungry lick GIF

Every spud ruck around the league that can't get a game right now would be licking their lips knowing we will be throwing cash at every ruck on an AFL list this off season.

My take .....when things are good Kelly speaks well & confidently .....when under pressure, his voice has a different octave, and his nervousness comes thru in his speech

He's probably a good backroom footy man ....but not the confident & knowledgeable public face we need

Have you noticed his absence from the media .....he should be front & centre supporting his Coach

He’s not a footy man at all.

That’s the problem. He’s a general administrator type

Welcome back, do you want the highlights of what you’ve missed? Yes, ok here it is:

Waynus has been disagreeing with everyone who doesn’t rate Nicks, ie every other poster but won’t say what’s good about Nicks. Despite saying he deserved to be re-signed and is defending the club for doing it, he’s going to wait until the end of the year to pass an opinion on Nicks.

I shit you not.

Who else is OOC? Pittonet has fallen behind De Koning at Carlton and they are never likely to play 2 rucks given they’ve got McKay for that. I think he’s in contract, but could offer number one ruck role here and better money?
He signed a 4 year deal either this year or last year. I feel Carlton would be happy to move him with the way DeKonning is going.

So sounds like Burns and Ogilvy could be the two who we move on. Burns has had a good crack at it now and hasn't delivered. Time to bring in a gun senior assistant from good football program.

Nicks will be gone midway through next year if we have another down year.
Maybe Burns could replace Kelly in the head of football role, maybe that’s a better fit for him than coaching and then allows us to approach some others assistant coaches for a more senior role.

Or maybe we can just fire him…………from a hugecannon?

Balme is a serial winner and we have a footy department completely devoid of demonstrated winning. I'll take Balme in whatever capacity he wants.

Balme could do 1 day a week at the club for all I care and he would still be more effective and valuable than Kelly, VB, Nicks, Silvers combined on a full time basis.

Day 2... because he won't want to get more grief after ****ibg it up on day 1!

I'm surprised people talk so confidently about who is and isn't a good assistant coach. Other than 2nd hand anecdotal 'evidence', feel those opinions are very circumstantial. However, hard evidence based on continually and consistently repeated happenings - if you bring people into your club who have won AFL premierships, as players, coaches, administrators, people who have seen what works, have first hand knowledge of systems that bring success - premierships generally follow.

In almost 30 years of AFL life as a player and assistant coach, I don't think Burns have ever been involved with a premiership winning team. That's enough for me to say, thanks but this relationship has run it's course.
