Yup 100% agree with you here.

Angus Clarke pick 33 followed by Charlie West pick 38 than wait for a bid match on Benny which is unlikely to happen now with our pick 94 which will come in around the 60s.

If no bid than Phoenix Hargrave with our last pick which would be a steal and Barrett moves to the Cat B spot.

Rookie spot Jay Polkinghorne if we are lucky.
Makes perfect sense. We must select Clarke if available. Absolute natural footballer who could replace Jones after 1 season.

I prefer Jack to matt? Matt looks a bit panicky.

I'm happy with any of shanahan, whitlock, gerryn and sims.

There's also about 4 tall defenders who seem to be similarly rated for the second pick.

I assume no one will bid on barrett now that we can match. I like barrett.

I'm assuming we use our last 2 picks on some sort of mid / wing / hbf.

I'm strangely fine with the trade. I dont think we gave up anything but ensure barrett is on the list. Im still miffed about the sinn trade.

The AFL is clearly trying to emulate/copy how Americans do their draft shows but it's so boring in comparison.

We have a distinct lack of players dressing like pimps.

Read somewhere his surname is pronounced "our" (or "hour" if you prefer), not "off" - as I had wrongly assumed 🥴
It's 100% Off and it doesn't matter what he or his family say.

I was told a while ago that we have no interest in Dodson because we have 3 of them on the list and that is currently not a need at all, while we have other deficiencies
Given we're nearly 100% sure we will only have 2 on the list next year, I wouldn't be against another ruck at all. If he's the right player, and he's there, take him.

Another small forward would just be stupid.

Gotta feel a bit for Tommy A, Charleson, etc. club clearly don't believe in them. Hard to see them having any motivation this preseason.

Drew 5+ years left at a B level AFL mid
Rozee 7+ years left at a A+ AFL mid
Butters 7+ A+
JHF 9 + A+
Mead 7+ B (he's only 23)
J.Burgoyne, Sinn, Lorenz -all 10 years on the outside
Sinn, Jones, Bergman, Berry - a good case can be made for potential to play inside in the future at a high level
Barrett- now certain to be a Port player unless a bid comes in the next 11- an outside chance of being an AFL midfielder
Given Jase Burgoyne's DNA, a chance to become an inside mid of high quality. I saw his dad at 21 and his uncle at 20 and had no idea they would become key premiership winning inside mids at that time.
I have liked what I've seen from Jackson too but his progress has been too slow due to injury.

And I haven't even mentioned McEntee and Atkins yet;)

SPP (inside), Richards, Farrell. DBJ was recruited as a tagger and now that he is no longer a forward will be the ultimate utility.
Rozee has failed in finals year after year, and also many, many big games. His statistical rankings are spot on and poor. You can't classify him as an A+ mid in any sense.

Over rating Mead as well. You're guessing with Sinn and Lorenz that are juniors.

Midfield is a big issue for us. We have JHF, Butters, a declining Wines and Drew. We need more behind that and some more talent within that group. We have a couple injuries and we'll be in real trouble.

I thought he was talking about Armstrong in terms of the relaxed nature, but I could be wrong.

I personally like Tom Sims the most as a KPF, but Hamish Davis would be my absolute number one want. I've said it before, but I think I'm probably his biggest cheerleader and would be in my top 10 talents in the draft. Don't know if we will now after getting Berry however, unless we see the opportunity to turn him into a Houston type (Houston being a forward when we drafted him).

You'd think we'd grab at least one tall, so it'll be interesting to see which one we get.
After falling for Wet Toast's double bluff (they were never going to pick Berry - they got their man Allen), we'll have to see how things play out tonight.

If other clubs play shenanigans, and do early deals to thwart our selections and leave us with scraps, we don't have much if any collateral to bargain with to outwit them.

Really exposed ourselves badly last night - leaving aside whether a small forward was really a "must have" at that pick anyway.

So our first 2 picks last year were small forwards, now our first this year again is a small forward and barrett. Plus bringing in Richards and elevating McEntee. With spp back this year to.
After the talls recruiting the year before you could be forgiven for thinking the recruiting department are just going "I don't even know what you're looking for so here's more options than you can deal with"

KPD is our biggest hole left in terms of list structure and needs to be filled tonight

Is this the same Rozee that was selected AA 2022 and 2023 as a midfielder?

But you are writing him off as a midfielder because he had a bit of an off year in 2024? Still finished 4th in the B n F and got 3rd most Brownlow and AFLCA votes for us.

there were factors at play that should allow him a mulligan, mainly the first year of captaincy, injury and return blunder, and becoming a dad for the first time at a young age.

I think he comes back much stronger next year.

Night 2; On the agenda for port:

-Will a Bid for barrett come tonight?
-Will Shanahan be available?
-Which KPD do we take- Mraz, Barrett?
-Angus Clarke?

All three of our star mids have failed in finals. Rozee, if anything, probably has the best finals record of the three.

I understand why this board gives JHF a pass- because he's so young. But I don't understand why Rozee cops so much more heat than Butters.

In their last 5 finals games, Rozee has averaged 0.2 less disposals, more contested possessions, more clearances, and has kicked 5 goals to Butters' 0.

Ignoring the Geelong game, where Butters was subbed out, their stats are closer but Rozee still averages more contested possessions and clearances and of course hits the scoreboard.

He also has, by far, the best individual finals performance of the three in his game against Brisbane at the Gabba in 2023.

I'm not trying to gaslight anyone into thinking that Rozee's performances in finals this year were good, or even passable. But neither were the performances of any of our other midfielders.

All I'm trying to say is that maybe the issue is a bit more systemic (Hinkley) than "Rozee isn't a midfielder."
