List Mgmt. 2024 AFL Draft

Would aid the list profile if we could get a KPF (one of Shanahan/Simms/Gerryn) with our first tonight, then a KPF so thinking one of Barrat/Dennis/West with the second pick.

Pick 93 in case we need to pick one to match a Benny B bid. That should drop back to low 70's anyway. If no bids on him, then use it for a speculative pick.

Delist Mac and maybe Williams post Draft, and with those 2 spots save one for a supplemental pick before March on the main list, and maybe a mid season pick for the rookie list? Maybe Rome, Louie, Watkins or someone else that pops up ala Evans.

Cannot delist McEntee anymore. We've promoted him to the senior list. Williams maybe which would open a rookie spot for Jack Watkins to join as SSP while we take another spot to rookie draft on Friday.

There's also another reason perhaps talls have slid further than expected. There's several teams that are well stocked for their gameplan. Medium forwards are becoming more common rather than pure key forwards because of the high pressure and speed based game. We aren't one of those teams hence why we still need a KPF

There's a rumour on the Essendon Board (posted by a Dogs fan) that bombers have offered 37, 39 and F2 for Richmond's 28 or Dogs' 31. Obviously take it with a pinch of salt but I expected something like this from Essendon

Yeah Ough is still there. Would be happy with him.

Ultimately i’d want Ough and Barrat but dont think we’ll fly that way

I don't for a second believe there were strong links. Geoff Parker was questioned and he didn't give a positive answer on Jack whereas he did on Reid. Was talking about Jack's casual personality etc.
I thought he was talking about Armstrong in terms of the relaxed nature, but I could be wrong.

I personally like Tom Sims the most as a KPF, but Hamish Davis would be my absolute number one want. I've said it before, but I think I'm probably his biggest cheerleader and would be in my top 10 talents in the draft. Don't know if we will now after getting Berry however, unless we see the opportunity to turn him into a Houston type (Houston being a forward when we drafted him).

You'd think we'd grab at least one tall, so it'll be interesting to see which one we get.

If no trades are made, you would think something like the following happens:

  • Richmond (Ruck / Mid / Small - KP's are already covered. Could see them going Dodson here. It is their last pick in the draft and they lack rucks. Nank is 30)
  • Bulldogs (Surely KPD, they need them desperately. They have Lobb (31) and Liam Jones (33) only)
  • West Coast (mid surely, but they could go anything really)
  • Bulldogs (Wouldn't be surprised to see a second KPD selected, however a ruck or small is an option too)
  • Saints (they just have to pick a mid surely!? Their fans would lose their mind if they didn't)

In the ideal world, I could see Shanahan and Whitlock both being available at our pick still. At least one of them if West Coast went the other. However I just can't see this happening with someone like the Bombers doing everything to trade in.
Didn’t think that WB were in need of Key Position till I read this. Just assume they would be looking for outside run with Daniel, McRae and Smith leaving. But yeah if they keep both picks reckon they target a KPD maybe Whitlock.

Think we take two talls now, hopefully Shanahan continues south to 33 if not Sims or Dodson, real lucky if Shanahan gets to our next and one of Sims or Dodson last till the last pick. One of the three will be there at our next, then take West if all three gone at 38.

I am yes, Clarke would be a very good pick
Clarke has been described as being very similar to Will Day. If he's close to that it would be silly to overlook him. I think there is a bit of interest in him before our pick but with some other high profile guys still there he could be there for our first pick in the second round.

What you've shown there is precisely my issue. We have 3 A+ midfielders and hen drop do a B as our next best option. That is exactly the issue I'm talking about. The midfield is far too important a position for our back ups to be that much lower in grading to our best.
Everyone would love 22 top shelf players but can’t have that. Top shelf players deserve top shelf wages ($750,000+) and the salary cap doesn’t allow that. You could have 10 players on $750k then the other 34 share the remaining $175,000 at $50,000 each (well below the minimum wage).

So you rationalize. We have 4 top shelf mids- one on the decline who won a Brownlow a couple of years back and one on the rapid rise who we are paying $600k (we are lucky- Collingwood are paying Perryman $850+). Point is you don’t need and can’t have endless A-Grade mids.

Also, we ain’t finding a top shelf mid on Day 2 of this draft. All you could get is midfield depth- which we already have.
