Numerous re cards and suspensions is poor, but more serious is the abuse and threatening behaviour towards the umpires. Bernards supporters have form in that regard. Maybe the VAFA should strip them of four points - that would send a message.
Any danger this new Play HQ system might list the teams at some point between selection night and first bounce?
It's a pretty standard practice I would have thought.
Not an encouraging start. Will be interested to see how it goes with live games this afternoon.
Sensational effort by the Roys, Mappa. Remarkable effort from 22 one pointers, nearly all former Fitzroy juniors.
As for Beauy, I think the club needs to have a good look at what they stand for. Game began with their reserves players etc, lining the race and loudly booing and jeering Fitzroy as...
Let's be honest, the VAFA write-ups are simply a rehash of best players/goalkickers/ladder. Writers don't strike me as people who ever watch games in their sections, or have a clue who any of the players are. I have never read one of those write-ups and learned anything I didn't know from...
Unfortunately video doesn't capture the actual incident - out of shot for a split second - otherwise suspect we'd be having a different conversation. It's about 28 mins into second quarter of Fitz v St Bernards
Fair to say the VAFA tribunal is a strange one.
Fitzroy player, after tackling a Bernards player, shoved him forcefully in the chest with an open palm. Silly act, but STB player was fine, no carry on, and was awarded a free kick.
BUT .. ump thought it was a clenched fist and sent Roys player...
A curious aspect of it all is the highlighted "Emergency'' player. Normally when a player is a late withdrawal, another player just drops into the 22 and appears on the list the same as all of the others.
Suggests they were looking for a loophole. The penalty just seems too light to me.
Bit of a farcical penalty in my opinion. They lose the 4 points from the St Bernards game and some percentage. The fine for each offence is barely more than teams get for a melee. So Beauy played two games with 45+ player points, but their only penalty is to essentially forfeit those games. Not...
Don't know how, but accidentally managed to tip Monash last week - big error given I think they will struggle to win a game this season.
This week:
Fitzroy
Old Trinity
St Bedes Mentone
Beaumaris
Ajax
I think it was for slamming a player's head to the ground (about 12 mins in 1st Q)
Beaumaris v St Bedes M
Fitzroy v Williamstown CYMS
Monash v Old Geelong
AJAX v Old Trinity
St Bernards v De La Salle
St Bedes MT vs Ajax
Fitzroy vs Monash Blues
Old Geelong vs Beaumaris
Williamstown CYMS vs St Bernards
De La Salle vs Old Trinity
Wouldn't surprise me if OGs caused the upset and knocked off Beauy, though
