Given there are already several posters on here pushing the company line an official HFC seems pointless...perhaps we could let Pelchen come on to defend his trading
Re: Lisle on Lions Radar!
circular argument
the club traded him, therefore the club is right
dont debate anything
if the club made a trade it must be right
Fremantle exchange selections 38 and 56 to Hawthorn for acquired priority selection No.29 (from Brisbane), 58 and 71
so we lost lisle, a guy who played afl last year (former all australian CHB with three years development
gave up pick 29
got boumann who played at bhh
either we got the lisle...
While technically correct. What other choice did the hawks leave them with. They offered short contracts and limited opportunities. Any sane footballer concerned with their limited career has to walk under such circumstances.
The point other posters have tried to make, if the hawks had offered...
Pelchen stated on SEN that Hale was not even on the radar until the new interchange rules were annouced shortly before trade week. They have recruited him mainly as a sub player. Can come in the second half and gives a fresh KPP or ruck.
If there are injury or matchup issues in the first half...
1. Of course we had to out bid melbourne if we wanted hale. The question is he worth it to our list. In my opinion no. I do think its stupid to say we paid the right price because that is the price we paid. This is circular reasoning. Every player wanted by at least two clubs is traded at the...
1. i didnt say we needed a depth ruckman. I was responding to poster who eluded to the need for depth. We have 3 senior ruckman. One a premiership ruckman. One ruckman who played a full season as the second ruckman in a team that finished clear second on the ladder. One a mature body who played...
had a couple of tough years with injuries
a rare beast on the hawthorn list:
a defender who is willing and able to lock down opposition player and sacrifice his own game rather than getting cheap kicks on the half bank flank
one of the hardest working and determined in lost final this year...
the tambling roughead debate is irrelevant to the Pelchen debate
2004 draft nov 2004. Pelchen hired May 2005
the hawks were a little bit lucky and little bit wise with 2004 draft when bucky and clarko chose roughy and buddy as KPP for a rebuild after footscray and richmond chose midfielders...
if you put aside what you paid, then any trade can be justified.
hell if you only counted what you got, you could trade buddy for sandilands
im not against hale coming to the hawks, just the price paid
the trade period is a tough time, players with their wishes, managers pushing prices up...
Trades cannot be measured just by what you get but also by what you give up. Burgoyne is fine player, but he is past his prime and we gave up a lot to get him. He may still prove to be worth it but Im not sure he filled our greatest need.
One would think that you would be willing to give up...
The dowler situation highlights a broader weakness in the Hawks over the last 5 years: that of player development.
Thorp, Dowler, Dawson are just three examples of players who did not improve while on on list, in fact it could be argued that went backwards while on our list.
Other clubs have...
Pelchen, Hooper, Thorp, Dowler, Zac Dawson, Mat Little, Cam Pederson all go to Brisbane
Sherman to Hawks
Yes i know it involves kidnapping at gun point, but make it happen Jeff.
We havent taken a player from Port for a while, perhaps rioli for motlop
after the hay and thommo trades its good to see us pay north back by giving up a very high draft pick for a plodder who couldnt make their best 22. very chartiable.
We all welcome the wins and all involved deserve praise for turning things around.
Obviously some of the issues raised have been addressed, especially that of consistent effort. Players were dropped, players and coaches put on notice and they have responded well. Regardless of what eventuates...
F1 & skipper seems a little slow on the bench, with these days of high rotations and the large ground.
depending on the weather, might see a late change, seems to happen a bit down there
if kepler keeps his form to this level will he stay in the side when Johnson comes back?
will harvey make an example of johnson and force him to spend some time in the reserves?
