Both Gibbs and Murphy use the ball more by foot and are better at it than Carrazzo. However, Carrazzo's disposal as a whole is effective - that's where the criticism against him falls down. You take away Carrazzo's little effective handballs he gets away to Judd/Murphy/Gibbs/Simpson to give us...
His disposal isn't the best in the competition but why is he being so harshly criticised at the moment...? Look at the stats in 2011:
Player - 2011 Disposals - Effective Disposal %
Marc Murphy - 260 - 69.23%
Chris Judd - 247 - 67.21%
Heath Scotland - 233 - 78.11%
Bryce Gibbs - 211 -...
Totally agree. Carlton has increased its defensive pressure and is just harder at the ball in 2011. Journos are focusing on Robinson maturing which is a major factor in this however, look at Carlton's tackle count - both Judd and Carrazzo are both way out in front there. We've come to expect it...
I don't see why White and Hampson should be dropped when they are obviously in better match fitness than Bower and O'Hailpin. Obviously, White and Hampson aren't first choices but they will do a better job than bringing in players who are underdone and are still getting over surgery/injury...
When does Carlton's tenancy at Etihad end...?
After watching the Adelaide game, it seems that we struggle a lot more against better sides at Etihad. I don't know what it is but I just think we use the space of the MCG better.
We might have a better win/loss record at Etihad than the 'G...
He's gone. There was absolute no effort to spoil the ball - he didn't have eyes for the football and jumped straight into the man. Contact was definitely intentional.
When are guys like Bower and Waite going to mature into leaders of the club...? It's a serious question and needs to be answered if we are going to push for a Premiership in the next 1-5 years. Waite was very lucky earlier in the year not to get done for such a stupid act and after watching...
I agree. I was sitting behind Carlton's goal in the 4th and it seemed like Waite had options forward. I'm not too sure why Waite went back because Simpson had no one behind him i.e. Simpson had to kick forward. It gave Essendon time to man up. From memory I'm pretty sure Murphy had just left the...
Whomb, I'm pretty sure your coaching staff wouldn't be in agreeance with you :)
They would've been watching Yarran closely against the Pies. If you stop him, you stop a lot of our run out of our backline.
Most people who watched the game on Friday would say Swan didn't have a big influence on the game. Yes, he had 34 touches but he didn't burn us like he normally does to the opposition - he only had 2 inside 50's against us.
Re: Round 3 Carlton vs Essendon Banter Thread
Bower only played 75% of the game for the Bullants on the weekend. Is it really wise to bring him back in when he's not 100% match fit against a forward line who is firing at the moment?
With a handful of footy shows on TV, there should be a 30 minute segment on at least one of them where Gieschen and a current AFL umpire has to answer the footy public's questions about rules. Umpires need to be held accountable for their decisions as it's extremely frustrating to see how rules...
When is Cloke going to be dropped? He does not present, he's soft at CHF considering his size and he cannot take consistent marks overhead or on a strong lead.
The Dockers shut down our forward line extremely well. Why a guy like Cloke could not dominate tonight is beyond me. Considering that...
Perfectly said...there were times in the last quarter he needed to stand up as a senior player of the side and his disposal was no where near where it should be.
These are the games the Blues have to win. No 'better luck next week' talk. Tonight was a game that they needed to win if we're going to play finals.
Tonight was weak. There was no heart (except for Murph, Waite, and Judd). Why would they move Waite down back in the third quarter after he...
I agree. I personally think our biggest problem is our half forward line. There's no point bringing in players like Carrazzo and Scotland when our current half forward line is not presenting. Against Sydney, we were pissfarting around with it in the half back line with no options. We need...
That's contentious. What's your basis on judging Carlton is overrated? What are you comparing us to...? Because the bookies have them 3rd favourite after 2 rounds...? Because stupid journo's keep writing about how good we will be...? I, along with the majority of Carlton supporters (and most...
It just shows where we are abouts. The last three weeks, we have beaten 2008's 9th and 10th quite easily and lost to 12th - the Bombers outplayed us and were harder at the ball and were more desperate. We're going to learn from it. We're not a top 6 side yet, because the great teams win games...
With the team you had on the field tonight, you played to the best of your ability whereas the Blues did not and you still only won by 4 points in a very close match. I'm not taking away from your win because the Bombers played hard and deserved it but all Blues supporters shouldn't be too...
Well done Bombers - they just wanted it more. The positive we can take away is that the Bombers played to the best of their ability and only beat us by 4 points. We played like shite and we're still in the game until the end. We still lost the 4 points but we'll learn from this game.
Also, I...
