Didn't Rendell (in whom we trust) say words to the effect that Davis could play on the ball when we recruited him?
I say leave him on Franklin even if Buddy goes into the middle, as long as the Hawks aren't trying to engineer a Pagan's paddock setup, with Buddy one-out with Davis on a long...
I agree with your thinking. The only change I can imagine, on a purely horse for courses basis, is bringing in Sellar for Stevens:
* The Hawks have Buddy, Roughie & Hale up forward to match up on, so an extra big body down back would help
* We could use an backup ruckman
* I'd like to give...
I remember thinking near the end of Darren Jarman's career "Jeez he's getting on. How much longer is he going to play?"
Then they published his birth date. He's 4 days younger than me. Way to make me feel old, DJ :-)
So the answer to the question is "the last player on our list who was...
the Coase Theorem?
Back to MR's statement:
If GC can accurately predict our valuation of the players in the draft, they can manipulate the game to their advantage.
So basically GC are trying to second-guess everyone, letting players slide until later on the draft on the expectation that the...
I agree. Anyone there at 84 in the draft will still be available in the rookie draft, and we'll have plenty of space on the rookie list.
In fact, I think our rookie draft will be the more interesting one.
I'm inclined to think the opposite. There may be one or two players who essentially become specialist substitutes. They'll be brought on at or just before 3/4 time (barring injuries), and they'll have their tank tuned for just one quarters worth of high-performance output.
I agree that this'd be the easiest system, but it's still not perfect.
Consider this situation:
GAblett goes into the draft, nominating a $1.9M per year salary and 5 year contract demand. Gold Coast take him with pick #89 because no-one else can afford that.
If that happened, Geelong fans...
Something I haven't seen discussed:
If we re-sign Knights and get both Walker and Jacobs, we may be in the position where we have to trade a player to fit under the salary cap.
I'm assuming that Knights is getting a pay rise, and both Walker and Jacobs would command mid-level salaries. I'm...
Not this year we don't.
If Knights walks out on us and goes into the draft, he'll end up on the Gold Coast, not in Melbourne. If for some reason GC don't want him he'll end up in Perth :-)
So if he wants to go home the Crows have to find a trade that they're happy with.
Re: CROWS-RELATED TRADE RUMOURS - ALL trade rumours go here!

Griffen can only come to us if the Bulldogs accept the compensation they'll get for him. Bock left us without knowing that we'd get fair compensation.
But to answer your question: no, all is not forgiven. I'd expect that if Griffen does end up with us, the Bulldogs fans will boo him at every...
People keep on saying this, forgetting a six-goal final where he was close to our only good player.
Others ignore it because it doesn't support their pre-conceived view.
Exactly what I was going to post, but you beat me to it.
Dead-set goal of the match. A gut-busting run deep in the last quarter, and then a miracle kick from the boundary line.
Hendo you legend.
If we only have 1 veteran next year we can upgrade 1 rookie to the main list at any time from the beginning of the season, right?
If so then as Jaensch is a first year rookie we may well keep him on the rookie list, knowing we can play him any time we want.
Do you know that they aren't the best assistants available?
I suspect that they were chosen because they're a known quantity, and being locals they're probably cheaper.
How do you know they're yes men? (other than the undeniable evidence of Carl's transcripts :-)
And how do we know...
For a grand total of 1 flag.
Hawthorn are rubbish ATM; Carlton and Melbourne still have a lot to prove. Even St Kilda look off of the pace, and they'd had Riewoldt & Kosi for a decade now.
The Doggies look the goods but it's not September yet.
I think this argument needs to be put on...
It was my daughter's first live game today - she's 6 but hasn't shown much interest in the footy up until now.
Thanks to everyone for giving her a good idea of how to barrack properly. And thanks to the Crows for actually winning :-)
I like the idea of trading players to upgrade draft picks.
I think it's likely that, after upgrading rookies, we'll only have 4 picks in the draft. So say around 6, 27, 30 and 46. If we could trade a fringe or depth player to upgrade one of those 2nd round picks it might be preferable to a...
You seem to be of the opinion that facts will convince other posters of the truth of your argument
A quick perusal of any of the threads here should dispel that notion fairly quickly.
(good analysis BTW)
