People underestimate the travel factor when discussing the concept of a Northern Australia team. If you have a team based in Darwin but play half their home games in Cairns, Townsville, Alice Springs and Rockhampton, that means they are on long road trips for 3/4 of the season. It’s going to be...
I’m pretty sure you’ve accidentally clicked miles instead of KMs on your Google search for Sydney to Auckland as it’s more than 2,100km (about 1,300 miles). It’s 2,645 from Melbourne to Auckland which is where most of the teams will be travelling from also. The difference is not big and would be...
Not sure where you’re getting your info but a quick google search confirms my plentiful experience of flights to Auckland. 3:35 Sydney to Auckland, 4:10 Perth to Sydney. Air New Zealand is as trash as the rest. Only airline I’ve had refuse to acknowledge cancelling my flight without informing me...
West Coast are the most mentally fragile team in the comp. Those are the types of sides which usually take out the spoon as a little bit of adversity (like being away from Perth for a month) and they crack the Sads for the rest of the season.
Auckland is almost the exact same distance as Perth is from the East Coast, and in addition you have to go through customs and immigration both ways so it’s a much worse flight.
Unpopular take: it’s no less unfair to reward teams for being crap with high draft picks than it is for sons of champion players to be drafted for unders.
I agree with you that we get it good, however the deal should be that every club plays its home games at their home ground. The Big 4 can play each other at the G as the exception since they all want that and too many miss out if it’s held elsewhere. But Geelong, the Dogs, St Kilda and North...
Got to be Beveridge at this stage. There’s a few who would likely be sacked if they went backwards from results this year:
Nicks - anything below 10th and he’s gone. Missing finals at all and they’d consider moving him on
Hinkley - low end of the 8 would renew fan discontent and missing it...
I know clubs don’t do it anyway out of an unspoken agreement but would it be possible for another club to draft Wingard before Hawthorn despite him being in contract since they’ve now delisted him?
Seems like a waste by the AFL. Crowd and Pies would both draw a good crowd in Gather Round regardless of opponent so if they want to maximise attendances it makes more sense to play another non-SA team.
You should have to specify which Sidebottom and which Pendlebury you're picking. I'd say Pendlebury for 2010 despite his massive last quarter in 2023 but I would pick old Sidebottom over 2010 version.
I am old enough to have watched them. I agree those were two of the best I’ve ever seen play too but it’s a fact that key forwards are not that height any more.
Agreed but…my point is they wouldn’t play key forward today. They’re too short. McInnes is just tall enough. He’s not a big key forward by any stretch.
Because whether it’s worth it or not, if they wait a year they’ll get better than that as compo due to the size of the contract we are offering. Plus the chance to convince him to stay over the year like Sydney did with Papley when he wanted to go to the Blues.
