McCluggage hasnt played genuine wing for a while. Moved fully on ball the last few years

Is there a good list of the 1v1 loss stats around? Or is that one of the stats that you have to look up player by player?

    Preview Round 13 Preview

Darcy and Naughton out definitely helps. Andrews to Lobb is most likely matching up the height and then hope that Payne can go with JUH. English is still the one that worries me. He seems to kill us everytime we play. For what ever reason he is able to rack up a heap of ball and marks all over...

    2024 Rolling ALL-Australian Team

I agree in past years he should have been in, I'd probably have him about our 3rd or 4th best chance this year so far. McCluggage has been a bit hot and cold so far. Even games when he has racked up the ball he has been a bit more inconsistent and been getting caught holding the ball a lot. I'd...

    2024 Rolling ALL-Australian Team

Would definitely swap Andrews in for Daniher. Andrews is probably in career best form and a real chance of making the final team, while Daniher is way down on accuracy and well back in the pack for the key forwards (even acknowledging his ruck time)

    Round 13 changes

I reckon its happened 2 to 3 times a year for the last several years. Usually away in Melbourne against a low team or before the bye and the attitude just clearly sucks from the get go. They clearly all seem to rick up with their minds already on the break and think they can walk over teams. Its...

    Jumper clash fails

I do agree with this. Clubs should be brave enough to wear different options more often. For example I would be happy if the Lions would embrace the bears colours and wear the yellow with maroon highlights sometimes (even away in Melbourne). Its so much better when there is a clear difference...

    Round 13 changes

Living in Melbourne I dont mind it. Been to so many games there and generally its a great view from anywhere in the ground. Facilities are great and its so easy to get to. But atmosphere can be so incredibly mixed. Sometimes its great sometimes its terrible. When we've had good wins there the...

    Jumper clash fails

I disagree it definitely causes unnecessary issues against some combinations of dark/light. Its so much more aesthetically pleasing and easier to create contrast against when there is a solid major colour front and back. Having a half/half back like the number panel is an issue. It may not be...

    Jumper clash fails

I dont really get the tiny little navy bib on the top of the Carlton top. But overall its a mostly good contrast (would be perfect if not for the stupid Port number panel)

    2024 Rolling ALL-Australian Team

Its fair enough to ask as the team as a whole is playing poorly especially the mids and forwards are just way down on everything. But like the other poster said Andrews is having an amazing year. The kind of year that is keeping us in games from full back. He is stopping multiple 10 goal loses...

Review Round 11, 2024 - Hawthorn vs. Brisbane Lions

I'd say one of the big clear things is he doesnt seem to have clear plan and seems to alternate each shot whether he goes around the corner or not. Neither seem to be consistent. Which is weird when compared to his field kicking which was really good yesterday He really seems to do some work on...

Review Round 11, 2024 - Hawthorn vs. Brisbane Lions

I was considering that in the mid section as was a bit of swapping between, but from my end of the ground I wasnt quite sure who was lining up at some contests - it reminded me to book an appointment for my optometrist to check my prescription. Either way I dont believe he played back

Analysis Season 2024 - Statistics and Analytics Thread

We have had such issues in getting up for away games for a while (I know they are harder than playing at home) but it just does ask the questions of the motivation. We just seem to so regularly have games that the players are checked out and put in minimal effort. Seems very likely that away and...

Review Round 11, 2024 - Hawthorn vs. Brisbane Lions

Bailey was mostly rotating forward and mid. But being in the mids he was popping up in the back line a bit. I dont think he was actually playing a backline role properly for any serious minutes

    Preview Likely retirees 2024

At the start of the year I thought it would be Zorko's last but he has been mostly having an excellent year off the HBF (maybe pushing AA squad sort of level). If he keeps that going I wouldnt surprise him trying for one more year to try for a last shot

    Round 13 changes

Seems like what always happens that things line up with a bye, so it gets used as an excuse as a one off and we get mulligans.

    Round 13 changes

That's a big reason I've liked Ah Chee and Lohman forward (and I didnt hate Dev there). At least those guys put in the defensive hard work. Shame not everyone is held to that standard

Review Round 11, 2024 - Hawthorn vs. Brisbane Lions

Worth noting that again Reville played only 65% game time and Bailey only 66%. So way down on a normal mid/forward workload for both players. Add that to Ryan only playing 51% from 3 quarters. That's effectively 3 players not being able to pull a full shift before we consider the poor effort...

Coach Fages and the coaching group

He came on and at stages of the last quarter we were starting to just try and Hail Mary it forward so their were mistakes from a lot of players. I dont really blame the guy who just came on for trying to do too much to spark the team

    Round 13 changes

He's really improved and his kicking is much much better than it was. But he's still the weak link in the defensive line and he's not really showing enough to be an AFL wing or any other position. Others are better kicks and I dont think we have many guys in the backline who dont bust their...

Coach Fages and the coaching group

I'd suggest Fagan's philosophy on the sub is its the 23rd best player he has available each week. And he would prefer not to use it as he thinks he should back in the best 22 as much as possible. I would also guess he would prefer the sub wasnt a thing so he didnt have to deal with it.

Coach Fages and the coaching group

He looks like he has no idea what to do every time he marks the ball. He is constantly changing his approach - some times going round the corner, sometimes a set shot. He seems to have no plan or set routine of what to do in this location. His goal kicking confidence is completely gone if not...

Review Round 11, 2024 - Hawthorn vs. Brisbane Lions

The undersized has been an issue for sometime but we struggle to change it. Only slower workhorses seem bigger and all our fast x factor players are tiny. Balance doesn't look to be changing any time soon

Review Round 11, 2024 - Hawthorn vs. Brisbane Lions

I was about to say that it worked in the injury cursed game. Then I remembered he was the late in and Morris was the sub. Showed given a full game to just run Sharp looked way better

Review Round 11, 2024 - Hawthorn vs. Brisbane Lions

So much of that game was just the same old issues raring their head again (just with few missing players making it worse). Just so many lazy players who seem to not be willing to fight it out. So many times an away game where they just don't want to run and put such lazy efforts into tackling...

Review Round 11, 2024 - Hawthorn vs. Brisbane Lions

Was a mistake going for Gunston and the desperation to then bring in Ryan was just dumb. Should have some real rethink of our trading in the last two years

Game Day Round 11, 2024 - Hawthorn vs. Brisbane Lions

Yeah I get that. Any of Bruce, Answerth, Rayner or Ah Chee could work as subs. None have done a heap. I doubt we sub out a tall and mess with the structure

Game Day Round 11, 2024 - Hawthorn vs. Brisbane Lions

Effort. Very stagnant movement from the forwards and midfield. Literally just watched someone lose the contest and stand hand on hips there before running off almost before Chol had marked it. Terrible effort

Game Day Round 11, 2024 - Hawthorn vs. Brisbane Lions

Sitting in one of the end bays at the top. Almost totally fully bay with people still queuing to enter so they started spilling into the fenced off bay. Heap of security came to kick everyone back out to find seats elsewhere. Looking at the other end of the ground either they've started...
